Publisher's Summary
In this number one New York Times best seller, the Women's Murder Club gets ready for a quiet Christmas - until a mysterious killer decides to terrorize the city.
As the holidays approach, Detective Lindsay Boxer and her friends in the Women's Murder Club have much to celebrate. Crime is down. The medical examiner's office is quiet. Even the courts are showing some Christmas spirit. And the news cycle is so slow that journalist Cindy Thomas is on assignment to tell a story about the true meaning of the season for San Francisco.
Then, a fearsome criminal known only as "Loman" seizes control of the headlines.
Solving crimes never happens on schedule, but as this criminal mastermind unleashes credible threats by the hour, the month of December is upended for the Women's Murder Club. Avoiding tragedy is the only holiday miracle they seek.

WMC is struggling
I keep waiting for this series to regain its shine. This one missed the mark. I feel like Paetro and Patterson need to read the first10 WMC books to rediscover what made these books popular in the first place so that people will continue to read them. I'm not sure where Claire has gone. She hasn't been in the last few books. They should kill her off if she's just going to poke her head in for a page. The strength of the earlier books was the relationships that existed between the women and the intricate storylines. That's gone now. I may be gone too if these books don't improve

Disappointed
I always look forward to the latest installment of the women’s murder club series. But this was such a disappointment. The author just repeats information in the story over and over I suppose to fill pages. And after awhile it’s so boring and the narrator reads everything like she’s always asking a question. Very annoying. Weak plot. Used to enjoy this series but not any longer.

Patterson is getting predictable
As he gets older, Patterson is losing is edge and his plots are predictable. The villain in the past has been twisted mentally and unpredictable. Now, all his villains appear to do is have this great power and command great fear without explanation. They just appear to kill. The psychology just doesn’t add up. The villains are not scary. The suspense is gone. The 16, 17, 18, and 19 series with Lindsey Boxer are so lame. They are the same stories with each of the “Murder’s club” taking turns as the feature.
I am done with Patterson. I probably should reread his earlier works.

Engaging Christmas Mystery
This was a great mystery plot and fun for the holidays. The characters were not so much a part of a "club" but were friends (husbands and wives and s.o.) with connections to the San Fransisco police force, district attorney's office, news media, forensics, etc. All that is needed to create an in-depth story. The friendships make the book more personal, but Patterson/Paetro do not over emotionalize.
I've not read/listened to any other James Patterson books, so his style was not overly familiar or tedious. The well-developed plot line kept me engrossed throughout. January LaVoy has a smooth voice with a pleasant and even tone. Very enjoyable.

A Christmas Letdown
I listened to many of the early Women's Murder Club books, then strayed from the series for a time. I picked up on this one and was pretty pleased through the first six or so hours. These books are geared toward women readers, and I'm a male (born and bred). I enjoy a good story, and I figure the focus on women may soften my personality and broaden my horizons a little. And I usually enjoy the way that Maxine Paetro builds the suspense while developing the characters.
The last hour, however, really disappointed. There was a lot of action, but at two critical points I felt as though they'd left a couple of chapters on the cutting-room floor. The action seemed to move from A to C without some necessary detail in B. I c an't say much more without giving away too much to potential readers. But I will say this: After all the suspense of the nature and location of the real crime amid many diversions, I still don't know the nature of the ultimate crime. What was the perp seeking? Why? What was his beef against the target? I'm left with more questions than answers, and that state simple doesn't sit well with me as a reader.
January LaVoy is fine as a reader, although her Yuki voice is fingernail-on-the-blackboard annoying. It's the story that left me let down. Had author Paetro added a few important details at two key points, I'd be satisfied, and my review would reflect that satisfaction. But instead I'm left with questions that she never answered.

Another interesting story
I enjoyed the story, though not quite as much as previous ones. It seemed rather far fetched though there were quite a few interesting "action scenes". The narration would have been top notch if it weren’t for the high squeaky pitch used for two of the characters, which I found both irritating and painful, despite my deteriorating hearing.
