Publisher's Summary

What would happen if a top expert with more than 30 years of leadership experience were willing to distill everything he had learned about leadership into a handful of life-changing principles just for you? It would change your life.

John C. Maxwell has done exactly that in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. He has combined insights learned from his 30-plus years of leadership successes and mistakes with observations from the worlds of business, politics, sports, religion, and military conflict. The result is a revealing study of leadership delivered as only a communicator like Maxwell can.

Accompanying charts, evaluations, and a growth guide are available in the audiobook companion PDF download.

Outdated, but still had some gems.

First, I applaud you for looking into leadship audiobooks! I appreciate you for wanting to improve yourself so that you may improve others.

I struggled with a few sections of this book. While there were great organizational and inspirational tips in the material, some areas read like a "Prosperity Gospel" sermon while others sounded self-promotional. Also, it was noticeable in some areas that it was written by someone raised in an older generation and by someone who might be out of touch with today's workplace. I would still give it a listen because you can still help hone (or even generate new) skills. But, just like with any book, be cautious and use discernment while reading and/or listening.

Interesting, not actionable

Maybe I being too harsh, but the book reads much more like a series of successes and failures throughout history. Biggest impact is just thinking of yourself as a leader.

I’m glad I read it once, doubt I’ll read again.

Great to get you started or refresh your skills

I didn’t like the law of sacrifice but everything else was great . I seen too many leaders develop cancer or lose their family over this law.

Needs another round of updating for the new world

A lot of things have happened in the world of leadership in the past 5-10 years. There are a lot of good lessons in this book, generally, but overall the book is a bit dated. I agree with other reviewers who note that there are passages that feel very self-promotional. But, I also realize it is hard to write a book outlining your life's successes and failures without a bit of bragging about the things that went right. I imagine that is always a struggle when writing a book such as this one.

On the other hand, this book is a collection of stories about leadership - not just the author's own experiences, but those of "great leaders" throughout history. Many of these leaders are already revered for their leadership - such as Teddy Roosevelt - while others are maybe less well-known. The part that bothered me is that 99% of the stories are about white dudes. Now, history is written by the victor, so of course it's harder to find stories about female/bipoc/LGBT leaders, but they are out there. I think I counted three stories about females. One of those stories was the author talking about his wife who struggles with writing speeches when she is asked to speak for a group. The author credited himself with helping her to string words together, but made sure to point out that his wife has other skills, i.e. - her ability to help him put an outfit together and match his socks to his suits. **Eye roll**.

All in all - there are some good ideas to take away from this book. I know that John C. Maxwell has legions of fans so clearly his style speaks to some folks. That said, I found the book a bit tedious and probably would not read it again.

A staple for any leadership basis

Intro from the author was great, you can tell he has had a life of public speaking.

The narrator; not so much.

But don’t let that out you off. Consuming the ideas on this book was great for me, the stories and history that makes up the preface to the laws was equally great and helped me identify the point that is being made.

Great listen, albeit, the narrator is a little less charasmatic than the author

One of the best leadership books! A must listen!

A must listen on the 21 laws of leadership. Very insightful. Complement this with the 5 levels of leadership and developing the leader within you.
