Publisher's Summary

Set entirely on a London bus travelling from Hoxton to Highbury and taking place over just 36 minutes, the events of The 392 unfold through a cast of charismatic characters coming from very different worlds. On the 392 are all the familiar faces you might expect to see on any bus ride through inner-city London in the grip of gentrification; delinquent school kids, the high-flyers, the weird, the wonderful and the homeless. These Londoners share two things: a bus journey and a threat. A threat which is ready to blow apart everything they know.

Ashley Hickson-Lovence is a writer from Hackney, London. While working as a secondary school English teacher, he completed his MA in Creative Writing and Publishing from City, University of London part-time and is currently completing his PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at the University of East Anglia. His debut novel The 392, set almost entirely on a London bus over just 36 minutes, was released in April 2019. His second novel Your Show is set to be released with Faber in 2022.

Brilliant

The portrayal of so many diverse characters was amazing. A slice of London life of today in a Hackney transforming for its longtime residents. I often struggle with Audible narration because actors tend to perform rather than read the text. This was written as dialogue, so performance worked and was done really well.

Authentically written and beautifully observed

Authentically written and beautifully observed narrative of a cross section of characters on a bus, woven together and set in a potentially tense short bus journey.

Contains every single offensive word you can think of (yes, every single one) and a few you probably didn’t know - you’ve been warned!

Fantastic

This was such an enjoyable listen. Very original and wonderfully performed and produced. Enjoyable from start to finish. Could do with a trigger warning for graphic description of violence in one section though.

So Authentic

If you’ve wondered how the buses are in the East End, then this will create the atmosphere. A clever weaving of different human lives of a cross section of Londoners. Well acted and engrossing

253 anyone?

Although I enjoyed this audiobook I can’t help but feel the whole premise has been lifted from Geoff Ryman’s novel 253, set on the London Underground over a 7 minute period it tells the short stories of each of the 253 passengers just before the train crashes.

Sound familiar?

More a radio play about a homogeneous group of people on a London bus( ranging from teenagers to dementing 80 year olds)
Powerful but a little contrived

Not my normal type of thing but loved every minute (even if it did get a bit weird with the Pervy guy 😭)

Unique

This was awesome.

The narration by the amazingly individual voices brings this exceptional book to life.

Thé language and tone is very explicit, but it some how seems right.

It is strange that you know what direction the book is going but this does not spoil the enjoyment of the ride.
