Publisher's Summary
An insightful new work from the multimillion-copy best-selling author Sean Covey and the FranklinCovey organization, based on their work with hundreds of thousands of employees and large companies to unveil the essential disciplines proven to help businesses and individuals realize their most important goals.
A publishing phenomenon, Sean Covey and the FranklinCovey organization have become one of the most respected brands in the highly competitive world of thought leadership in business. In his latest work, Covey lays out an unprecedented plan for goal-realization that will revolutionize the way we approach our dreams.
The 4 Disciplines of Execution provides a simple, proven formula for achieving the goals that every individual or organization needs to reach. From Marriott to the U.S. Navy, Covey and his team have worked with more than 200,000 people in hundreds of organizations to improve performance, identifying and honing four secrets of perfect execution: Focus on the Wildly Important; Act on the Lead Measures; Keep a Compelling Scoreboard; and Create a Cadence of Accountability. By allowing teams to separate those urgent tasks that demand attention merely to keep a company alive - called the "whirlwind" - from new, "wildly important" goals that promise to break new ground, these disciplines empower leaders to accomplish what is by far the most difficult aspect of creating results: executing a strategy that requires a change in behavior. Simply put, this is a work that no business, however small or large, can afford to pass up.

What made the experience of listening to The 4 Disciplines of Execution the most enjoyable?
I really liked this book, the authors provide a straight-forward framework to apply at home or at work, but clearly recognise and name the key blocker that fogs everything up. The whirlwind. Nicely written book, logical and clear.

Absolutely Amazing, Surprisingly Simple
The authors give you a highly logical structure discipline for identifying and accomplishing high impact goals at an organizational, team, and in the end, personal level.
I'm going to test the crap out of it. From what I've read before, it won't overload your brain with information and it's simple enough to be obviously actionable on any goal, but will be more useful because most likely it'll help you and any time find the one that is the most important.

This really works!
If you follow the 4 disciplines you will get improved results. I have and I did. That said, there is a one-hour introduction book which gets the basics across better than this book does. My view is buy the shorter book and listen to it 5 or more times and you'll get all you need to start using the disciplines in practice.

Highly recommended - optimise getting stuff done
Over recent years I've been on a reading mission. Trying to bootstrap my own performance as well as those teams I'm a member of. While many books have helped and illuminated the way I believe this book to be the best. The foremost reasoning being the synthesis of so many aspects of performance into what are the four disciplines of execution. Simple to explain but with ninja like training and commitment required to master. If you have time to digest one "management" or "performance" book then I would highly recommend The 4 Disciplines of a execution.

Great concept but a hard read
Having adopted 4DX as a company initiative, we were recommended to read this to help us fully understand what we were committing to. The book gives you a great idea of how 4DX works and ideas for implementation within your company. It thoroughly explains the reasons why and gives examples from businesses who have moved to 4DX.
From a readability point of view I didn’t enjoy the book. I found it endlessly repetitive and a lot of the examples came across as if it were a sales pitch, not a book. There was a lack of narrative throughout the book, especially with the case studies included.
Would I recommend this book?
Yes, BUT only the first quarter and the last quarter! I have recommended that my team skip the mid section once it becomes repetitive. I would say that so long as you understand the concept then there’s not a lot of value in the “sales pitch” portion of the book!

How to Achieve Wildly Important Goals
If you can tolerate the comically macho Navy Seals trope vibe the core lessons here are flawless. The four disciplines are; focus, leverage, engagement, and accountability. In practise these look like having a WIG or Wildly Important Goal, acting on lead measures (not lag), use of a compelling scoreboard, and creating a cadence of accountability with weekly WIG meetings.
I loved the acknowledgment of the tension between the daily BAU which the authors call the ‘whirlwind’, and while commitments teammates made to achieving the WIG each week are essential, they are also only a small proportion of their effort. Asking ‘what’s the one thing you will do this week that will move the lead measures of our WIG?’ Is something I’m going to start using immediately as my team already use OKRs. There’s also something about holding people accountable to their commitments that we haven’t been nailing yet and I’m going to start doing more of.

Perfection.
Spectacular book. There are so many books on goal setting but after listening to (AND reading) 4DX O realise how much they lack. They just scratch the surface.
4DX is about making those goals happen even when caught up in the day to day chaos (what they call the whirlwind.) Read main pages 1 to 19, which are an excellent summary but the real value is the simple rules for each stage throughout the book. I loved this so much, I ordered a copy for every single person in my Business that is a people manager of any sort but I am also using it myself for some personal goals I have on my private life. 5 stars just aren’t enough.

Good if your an enterprise
Would you try another book written by the authors or narrated by the narrators?
only if it was relevant for individuals and personal goal achieving
Would you recommend The 4 Disciplines of Execution to your friends? Why or why not?
its aimed for big business
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The use of terminology like WIGS, Lag goals and lead goals to describe basic goal setting characteristics - why add a layer of complexity or confusion. Just call them what they are.
Any additional comments?
I learned for example not to make the weight loss target the goal but rather make the calorie counting each day the goal. That makes sense, but thats all i got out of it for me

Simple. Perfect. Necessary.
I’ll be 4DXing with my staff before the week is out! Excited for where this can take us. 4DX is a simple concept, but beautifully developed and presented.

Lead metrics for life
I am blown away by how simple and clearly this book presented the WIG and lead metric ideas. One of my best reads this year.
As a result my questions and actions as a leader at work, home and in the community have so much more impact.
