Even Better!

The original text by Dr. Covey is preserved, however, after each section, Sean, one of his sons, shares real world and up close and personal examples that bring the reader deeper and more intimately into the content and it's real life application.

‘03 Audio

I purchased this under the impression that it’s an updated audio version (as the other one is 17 years old). Regrettably, this is not the case — it is just a ‘copy and paste’ from the 2003 audio, with additional add-ins by his son. You’re going to have to suffer the terrible audio quality or buy the kindle version. :/

Fantastic but...

The material itself was fantastic, but the audio engineer needs to be slapped. A book this popular should have undergone some QC where Stephen Covey’s vocals should have had a “de-esser” on them as his “S” sounds were often over the top and distracting to me. And Sean Covey’s overall volume needed to be brought way up to match his dad’s original recording. I realize these are relatively nit picky, but I’d imagine the people who recorded them were professionals and should definitely have known better!

I do not recommend this version

I have read this book numerous times in the past and was excited to hear the new bonus content. Unfortunately, Sean Covey does not deliver anything new or illuminating. His reading is tedious and his tone is almost smug as if he is the heir to an intellectual kingdom and should automatically be recognized as the new king of the Covey legacy. Well, sorry, but he is a copy of a copy, at best. I recommend the 7 Habits, just not this version.

If you listen once, the benefit is in multiples

Listen to Steven over and over. Be captivated by the habits. Listen to his son be impacted by his father and then by the habits' deep impact into your soul.

Common sense information that isn’t applied anymore

These 7 habits that Stephan Covey present to the reader are good, but some managers even after taking the class or reading the book doesn’t know how to apply these skills.

I like that he uses examples of how and when to use the skills. For example if you have a subordinate that tells you that they just found out that have cancer, you don’t repeat what they said to them. However if you have a subordinate that is having problems meeting deadlines, then you will practice active listening to get to the heart of the problem.

Giving the nature of the climate now, some people need these tools more than others.

A favorite!!

The original edition of the book was excellent. This new 30th anniversary edition is even more tremendous. The son, Sean Covey, gives great updates and additions to the book at the end of each chapter. Stephen Covey reads this book as if he is giving an interesting lecture and adds to the text with some additional insights.
I almost gave this book less than 5 stars after a call to their home organization and perceived the person on the other end of the phone would have performed better if they would have incorporated the teaching of the book into their own manner.
The book is excellent.
One funny observation - The son, Sean Covey, will remark how consistent his dad was in living the 7 habits, then tell stories how his mother did not necessarily follow the same path. It wasn't really a criticism of the mother, but more of Sean appreciating her inconsistency with the habits to give out sympathy.

Boring

Dull... takes forever to get to the point. Stories are very convoluted. Good information if you get through the muck.

Easily my top non-fictional read of all time!

Amazing how the principles in Stephen Covey’s applies in 2020. This are timeless teachings. I finished listening with a new mindset to my life, essentially a changed person.
The narration by the father and Son ( a wonderful addition) makes this audio book a more valuable purchase

Get the one without his son in it

The original text of this book is great but stick with the original as this version has a lot of interruptions from the author's son on how he couldn't manage his kids. It really takes the shine off it. To be entirely fair, it might get better but I bailed out after a couple of chapters and downloaded the original instead

an excellent guide to a more fulfilled happier me

listening to this audiobook and reading the paperback got me thinking and sensing more. Stephen and Sean Covey have great narrating voices to listen to - a calm clear delivery of their wisdom and credible anecdotes.

I shall dip in again for years to come to refresh their tutorials.

THE book! Amazing!

This is my go-to book. I've read it and listened to it so many times, I've lost count.

This isn't just a business/work book... it's for everyone, for everything. I sometimes read this with my 'parent' hat on, sometimes I read it as a husband, a friend, a manager, a leader, a colleague. It speaks to all the personas you take on.

I think I read/listened to it back-to-back twice and now I use it as a reference book. When I know I can improve on something, I jump into the part that I know can help me. I learn and improve every time.

Good content, too long

The essence of this book is great and the points and lessons within are valuable, but it is far too long and filled with unnecessary drivel - the key learnings could be delivered in half the length. I like Stephen’s delivery, but the ‘additional insights’ from his son at the end of each chapter are a load of rubbish, mooching on his fathers success - I skipped these after the first few. Additionally the book splutters to a close, the final chapter (inside out again) is superfluous drivel and doesn’t recap the 7 habits nicely as you’d hope and expect.
From an audiobook perspective, it would be much more useful if the chapters were divided into their subheadings, for easier listening and navigation.

Empathic listening saved me and our relationship

I read this book years ago but this time I actually listened to the messages. No longer having the I know it all attitude this book has turned my life around. Morning exercises, goals, empathic listening with my gorgeous girl, win win with our gorgeous lil ones. This has been amazing for me. Must read (with an open mind!)
