Conryu has his life all figured out.

At least until the final day of school arrives and with it the annual wizard's test.

When Conryu passes the test, no one can believe it since everyone knows boys can't do magic.

Suddenly thrust into a world of magic and danger, Conryu must figure out how to use his news powers and quickly.

He soon finds himself on the run from a mad religious cult and hunted by a group of wizards that view a man wielding magic as the worst abomination imaginable. When his home city is taken hostage by the sinister Lady Raven, Conryu is the only one that can save the day.

Can Conryu master his magic before it's too late?

A well written Young Adult story.

Firstly I purchased book One and a month later the omnibus was offered this is definitely the way to go.
We are all young at heart, and these stories fulfill that need. Each leads to the next but are also stand alone books.
There's prejudice, evil people, irritating people, good demons and bad demons. Really something for every one. Most importantly it is a fun and engaging Audible that is hard to put down.
Joe Hemple was a good choice for narration. He has a fairly wide range of voices and dialects. So I am looking forward to seeing him in the next release in this series. Hopefully the Omnibus with 5 through 8.
So for me this is a full five stars.

Not good

Books are short and have action. I would preferred to have not heard the first draft of these stories. There are bad transitions and nothing happens behind the scenes unless the main character is involved or asks about it. No rhyme or reason why main character is so powerful and isn’t challenged to grow or fail. It’s like Superman with “Magic” and all the interesting bits of the story are stripped away to get to the conclusion, no history is revealed deeper about love interest or families except what you would find on a tinder profile. Target market, is early teens. Also starts with a system of measurement that gets thrown out for ex machina so then everything is a surprise with no foreshadowing. like Batman no one ever dies when there flung into a stone wall head first. The one character that is developed is saddled to the side after her involvement in the story is concluded. Joke quips are okay.

Interesting, but...

Joe Hempel's performance is absolutely abysmal. His constant monotone gets really grating at times. It's honestly a wonder he keeps getting work. Also, Conryu is problematic as a protagonist. He's a gearheaded jock who has no interest in magic and basically has to be dragged into his own story kicking and screaming. As a massive nerd, it's very hard for me to relate to him. The only things that make this series worthwhile is the world building and magic system.

Not a great read

The concept of the story baseline was unique but the story line was all over and didn't really settle down till the end. The MC tended to be kind of a jerk to people. The series was slow and tended to wander on characters that had nothing to do with the story, and Angus was a go nowhere character.

Weak beginning but not bad by the end

I am an author that is working on a universe that can be loosely compared to this one. I found many issues and things that definitely could have been done better. First, only women can get access to magic? I might have been able to swallow that if he had given some sciency-magicy reason for only women to get this ability but he just left it hanging which leads to my next issue. In a world where only women can gain magic, some guy becomes the first man to gain the ability. So this guy has magic, an amazing bike, is fresh out of high school and he's about go to an academy full of teenage girls where they will all learn about magic? I don't know about you but this REALLY sounds like a Merry Sue, i.e. The other put himself as the protag and gets all of his dreams to come true. This drove me nuts through books one and two. Plus his playing of the Chosen One trope which is really over done these days. Next issue was all four of these books taking place in one school year. That is way too condensed of a timeline to really let the story flow. A random side annoyance is how the main character wants nothing to do with magic. This made him really hard to connect with and understand at an emotional level. The last of my issues is that the narrator had too few voices for the characters and it often sounded like it used the same ones for a couple of characters. On the good side of the work, his foreshadowing and setting up for stories to come is remarkably impressive and he does it with a clean flow rate. The whole first three books just building up to Ravens Shadow kept me preverbally turning the page. And the Climax at the final book was an edge of your seat, questions racing, kinda moment.

Overall this audiobooks were pretty good for the price I was given. Individually it’s not worth getting but as a bundle package it’s definitely worth your time.

Excellent job 👏

this was one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the intro into this universe and the characters I felt like I was apart of the story and I love conryu like a brother. I look forward to exploring the rest of the series. 10/10

ANGUS McDOOGAL

I just can't Angus is the worst stereotype of a Scottish person, the ascent....I can't look past it.
story's decent. actually really enjoy it till old McDoogal comes out. then I feel Angry, Sick, embarrassed, chronic bowel palpation.
he's hardly even in it aswell.
just listen to it, join my outrage
