Story
I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my 12th-grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.) But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume - if I don't stop him. Should I stop him?

Story
When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next. Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. I don’t know who killed me. All I know is that they might try again.

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Let's get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact she's probably the last witch in the world you'd call if you needed a magical helping hand, regardless of her actual abilities. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa, where she could watch TV, munch junk food, and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content. However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch.

I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae. But of course, there’s a catch - all I have to do to claim my birthright is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true, as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.

Publisher's Summary
As a guild bartender, I can handle pretty much anything - mages, sorcerers, witches, the occasional demon. But show me anything family-related and I'd rather run for the hills. It doesn't even have to be my family.
So I have no idea why I thought spending the holidays with Aaron's mom and pop was a good idea.
Meeting his famous parents is already terrifying enough, but I've got a bigger problem. Students of his family's renowned mage academy are being attacked on the grounds - and somehow no one has seen a single assailant? Unexplained tracks litter the nearby woods, rumors of forbidden alchemy are circulating the campus...and Ezra has been acting strangely since we arrived.
Something deadly is brewing in the shadow of Sinclair Academy, and the longer we take to uncover it, the more dangerous it becomes. But no matter the risk, we'll protect the students.
And Aaron's parents too, I suppose. If we have to.
Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

Better and Better
The standalone stories are intriguing and unfolding an interesting world, the story arc for Guild Codex: Spellbound takes an emotional turn during this one and I am already dying for the next title. I also cannot wait to see how the two series in the Guild Codex intertwine. Robin was briefly seen here, but Tori and the mages stepped away from the Guild for this exciting episode.

Tori's back!!!
This was basically a filler book. Though I'm glad the author is pushing these out like All- You-Can-Eat pancakes at IHOP. This was the least interesting installment. If you have ever seen any type of TV, then you'll know who the villian is the minute they are introduced in the book.
The book does provide a critical setup for the remainder of the series. We now know what the focus will be for the next few books. I'm all in and cant wait to see how things turn out.
Tori, does redeem herself in this one. Where in the last few books she became a clingy, needy, pathetic, and dumb little woman... in this one she puts on her big girl pants and steps her game up. She still isnt the sharpest tool in the shed, but a far-cry from the idiot in the last couple books.
Overall it's a decent read but if you can wait until the next installment, I'd suggest reading them together.
Chris Dukehart does excellent job on narration. Her performance of the little fae, Twiggy, was so adorable!
3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.

Better!
Though this book was quite short compared to the others, Tori felt more like herself in this one. It has the episodic feel the first few books had, and a shifting of love interest. Though I see it becoming more drawn out or maybe even fizzling out like the first almost romance did. It was a cute, addition to the series. It was a little predictable but that doesn't take away from the story. It's a fun, light read, bringing back the feel of the beginning of the series.

Love it! Lots of fun.
If you’ve gotten this far I’m assuming you’ve already read the other books in the series. If you haven’t, go back and start with Three Mages and a Margarita and come back when you have some idea of what’s going on!! Lol
This book is a wonderful continuation in the guild codex storyline. Lots of great character development, fun interactions, interesting plot twists, and mutated werewolf shifters... I mean, who can’t get behind something like that? :-)
*potential spoiler alert*
This book also goes into more detail about Ezra‘s backstory and why he has started to pull away from his friends emotionally. As well as creating more romantic tension with Tori.

Excellent
It you have read the other guild cortex book this is the book you have been waiting for.. a better look into our favourite three sexy mage’s as Tori becomes even more intergraded into the family. Tori taking her training to another level and if it’s possible becoming and even stronger MC. I was laughing by the 10th page and that where there emotional rollercoasters starts, the alchemist and an amaretto has EVERYTHING humour, heart ache, you will hold you breath A LOT. As always it is rammed with action and adventure, watching out favourite characters grow as well as new characters to love and hate... truly amazing read I can’t recommend this book and this hole series enough, it is a must read.

Still good, but getting predictable.
Following the same story of Tori and her three hot male magic besties through their adventures.
The narration is top shelf.
This story became a little predictable and no real plot twists. I thought that an M4 would have been a better gift than a paintball gun in this situation.
A decent lead up to future plot developments.
You'll listen to this because you're hooked on the series anyway.
Enjoy!!

A dissapointing new chapter
Not up to the standards of earlier books. Weaker writing, less interesting & more stereotyped plot. I think quality over quantity would be a better rule for Annette when writing these books. There are 2 key plot points that are worth knowing as we continue on to the next book, but perhaps those can be caught up on by reading an external quick book summary. Still, there remains some pleasant humour and friendly banter which was enjoyable.

Great addition
I think this is one of my favourite books in the series aside from the first one.
I am enjoying the development of Tori and Ezra and am really keen for more of that.
The stories are slightly darker and I kind of miss the more bad arse heroine that we saw in the first book but it’s still great.
I really like how each book wraps up the main story by the end of it whilst these later books also start to weave developing storyline’s that push the series forward and keep you invested.
I think these books are good for a wife age range which is nice but I am hoping that the romance aspect will develop more in the next instalments.

Bastard of an ending but I'm keen for the next one! Hell of a cliffhanger!

love this book
This book made me laugh, sigh, squeak with happiness and cry uncontrollably. What a rollercoaster ride! Another amazing book by Annette Marie. I loved getting to know more about Aaron.
Chis Dukehart did an fantastic job, she is an outstanding narrator.
