Archaeologist Leah Andrews stumbles upon something inexplicable in southwestern New Mexico: Inside a dark cavern lies an undiscovered, Native American cliff dwelling abandoned for 800 years. While twisting through one of the narrow underground passageways, Leah’s flashlight illuminates the remains of a violent massacre. Ancient human remains - all slaughtered in a long-ago massacre - cover the cavern floor, along with several brilliantly colored, granite crystals. The rare gems are native to only one place on earth: A frozen mountain range in central Antarctica.

Half a century ago, an aberration was spotted by one of our earliest satellites, and summarily dismissed as a hardware malfunction. But it was no aberration. And no malfunction. It was an accidental glimpse of something extraordinary, and very old. Mocked for decades, the man who designed the satellite is now dead. With the system's original data firmly in the hands of former NTSB investigator Joe Rickards and anthropologist Angela Reed.

Publisher's Summary
A Russian cargo ship sinks in the shallow waters of the Bering Strait, and somehow vanishes without a trace. In the Colorado Plateau Desert, a cowboy follows a river of sand into an undiscovered ruin. A tunnel-boring operation between the Alaskan and Siberian peninsulas is stalled when its largest burrowing machine disappears into an abyss.
Sam Reilly leads a search and rescue mission for the missing ship and crew. What should be a simple operation quickly turns into something much more dangerous. He soon learns that all three strange events are irrevocably interwoven, and unlocking their connection may just hold the key to the survival of the human race.

Awesome Entertainment
I was given this free review copy audio-book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of The Aleutian Portal - Sam Reilly, Book 8 by Christopher Cartwright and narrated by David Gilmore. Book 8 continues the adventures of Sam and Tom and company. This was very entertaining with lots of adventure, exploring and mayhem. This book had some very interesting ideas in it. It is still part of the story within the stories. David is consistent with his superlative narration.

Stretched reality but great adventure
This book has the feel that it is leading up to a significant climax somewhere in the next book or two, with lots of long-standing plot lines converging. This one seemed a little extra far-fetched, but I have come to expect that from these now. The characters are now familiar and reliable, and you always know the heroes will win, but it is still a fun listen.
These stories are reliably entertaining, and always full of adventure and a strange blend of real and fictional science (not really science fiction).
As always, David Gilmore does a solid job with the narration.
Overall very enjoyable.

Another great read
The Aleutian Portal, my eighth read from author Christopher Cartwright & the eighth book in the highly entertaining Sam Reilly series. Well-written and captivating with well-developed main characters reminding one of Dan Brown’s writing as well as the character of Indiana Jones. Narrator David Gilmore’s narration added to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Up next is The Third Temple (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018). I’ll be reading more by this author as I already own more books in the series! Aah such a good series.
The Aleutian Portal: Sam Reilly, Book 8. How does Christopher Cartwright come up with such a gripping adventure series.
These can be read as a standalone novel, though there is much to be gained from reading in order. There are hints and a core theme through out the series.
Characters Sam & Co are now so realistic I'm surprised I haven't met them at the local bar.
Fast paced and gripping from beginning to end. A great adventure series for all lovers of a great yarn.

Three Incidents Become One Huge Adventure.
Three seemingly independent incidents become part of a mystery adventure for Sam Reilly and his team. The plot is full of twists and turns with the highest possible stakes. This is a well written and narrated tale with non stop action and sprinkled with fully believable characters. A great listen.
