Publisher's Summary

Gonzalo Guerrero and his mom survived the Great Tsunami of La Palma in 2029 when he was only four. Almost his entire family disappeared in the tragedy. Only Gonzalo and his mom kept afloat during the horrific wave that killed almost two million people around the world.

Now, they have a bigger issue. She has lost her memory as a consequence of the traumatic brain injury she suffered during the cataclysm. Trapped in the present, there’s no other past or future for her in this world. However, since time travel is available, they could learn from the future in the same way they learn from the past.

This book can be used as a cross-curricular material or potential listening material to help high schoolers understand complicated subjects while promoting collaboration among teachers. While most are considering The Ancestor in the Mirror a stand-alone NA novel, this book is also an educational material to prompt questions that teachers can address during their instruction and debates.

This audiobook provides helpful information

I like to feel as though I’ve learned something when I finish an audiobook, and I do in this case. The audiobook is well researched, and because of this, even the fantastic sounds plausible.

I thought the narration was great?

I was worried after reading the other reviews but the story is so great and the narration so nice I was just as lost in this book as the previous two. A perfect conclusion to the story as far as I’m concerned!

A great ending to the series.

Very briefly, poetry flows out of mantel's pen and it was a pleasure to listen to her wonderful descriptions. My only criticism is to the two or three times when her voice followed up on cromwell it was definitely out of place.

Gorgeous book, gorgeous narration

My daughter and I have so loved listening to this book and the two before it. Hilary Mantel’s writing is completely immersive, as delicious as the era-appropriate dishes Thurston prepares for Cromwell and others. Ben Miles’ narration is fantastic as well! Though there are times when Mantel’s writing is so exquisite that I find myself wishing I were reading along as well as listening so I could underline particular passages, I feel my experience of this book and its characters is so much the richer for listening to Ben Miles’ perform it all. I will miss this series very much.

Very Superficial - Wish It Had More Depth

I was hooked on 'time-travel' after listening the Outlander series and hoping for something with just a hint of those books. While this book was okay, I found myself wishing it would go into more depth. I felt the characters were flat & wooden and the events in their lives were quickly glossed over without any fleshing-out. As by a reviewer before me, the book seemed to have been recorded in someone's home.

The story was very good but the only fly in the ointmint was that sometimes you could hear the narrator turning the page.

Loved the book

The book was great, I really loved the story. This recording however, was terrible. You can actually hear the reader touching and turning pages during the recording; mouth noises and background noises we're enhanced and her voice was never quite loud enough.

Interesting listen, though it gets a bit repetitive

The book explains how we're really upgraded apes, posing interesting questions about existence. In the middle, it goes into ape studies and continues on that for a while.
