Publisher's Summary

When David stumbles upon a tragic young woman in a sordid Limehouse pub, he has no idea she’d recognize him as the last vampyre alive, nor that she’d be the one to pull out his story. Yet as he recalls his life from the sweltering vineyards of ancient Rome to the cold horrors of medieval Romania—as well as his tumultuous past with the mad and mysterious Lucius—he realizes she is much more than what she seems.

Gothic horror and mythological fantasy blend seamlessly together in this thrilling adventure, breathing new life into vampire lore as it reveals its true origins. The Ancient Ones is a tale of myth, mayhem, and magic…with a dash of romance that bites.

must listen

Cassandra has planted herself atop the best vampire writer list with this book. Miles as the narrator is just the cherry atop this phenomenal story.

I need Book 2 NOW

I'm so grateful this is now available on audiobook. I struggle to find time to read, so audiobooks are perfect for me and obviously I had to snag this once I saw it. Audible and Kindle are linked too, so it knew where I left off and I managed to finish it during my shift.

The story is dark and terrible (but the good kind of terrible, ya feel?). The language used by the narrator was so vivid and visual, I also loved the deep incorporation of mythology in the story around vampires!

What?

Very confusing, who’s who ?who used to be what? first half pretty straight forward , but towards the end I couldn’t keep the characters straight.

Feels like one big prologue.

There is so much exposition in this book that it might as well have taken place in ‘real time’ and saved us the He said She said. However it’s not bad. I do have one big gripe though, if you are going to set your fantasy thriller on a historical earth that’s the same of ours, then do your research into the period. I winced far too many times at the author’s description of life in Rome.
