Story
Greed, terrorism, and simple bad luck conspire to bring mankind to its knees as a viral infection spreads out of control, reducing those infected to undead horrors that feed upon the rest. It's a time of misery and death for most, however there are some who are lucky, some who are ruthless, and some who are just too damned tough to go down without a fight. This is their story.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Story
It's been twelve years since the undead hordes swept over the earth forcing mankind to the brink of extinction. We now live like rats, scavenging in the ruins of our fallen civilization as the dead hunt us night and day. There is little left to scavenge, however. Grocery stores were emptied ages ago, gas tanks have long been dry and bullets are so precious that a man is lucky to have two to his name. Still, we survive. But for how much longer? Instinct and love have combined to turn Darwin's theory on its head. The strongest didn't survive in this world. They were the first to die, leaving behind a generation of orphans. It's a generation that's never had a full belly. It's a generation that has no idea what an Xbox did, or what algebra is for. It's a generation of children who never laugh out loud, and who have learned to cry softly because the dead are always near and the dead are always so very, very hungry.

The Alt Apocalypse is the ground-breaking, genre-bending series from Tom Abrahams. It explores survival under the most extreme circumstances, but with a twist (and no cliff-hangers). This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. But every book dunks them into a new, alternate apocalypse; a nuclear holocaust, an earthquake, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a plague, and even zombies.

Publisher's Summary
From best-selling author Peter Meredith
The Apocalypse Crusade - The First Three Days
The world is suddenly thrown into chaos as a research project is sabotaged and the dead come alive to feast on the living - it seems like an old story, doesn’t it? Or perhaps you’ve heard this one: cities worldwide are overrun by a plague of man-eating monsters that seem to come out of nowhere while small bands of heroes fight for their lives!
Yes, we’ve all listened to that book.
The Apocalypse Crusade is not that book. You are not suddenly thrust into a world gone mad. Instead, you get front-row seats to how the sh-t went down. In real time you are witness to the agony and the horror…and the terrible stupidity that made it all possible.
This book puts you in the thick of the action. You are the stockbroker who throws a brick through a convenience store window and surges in with the crowd to loot what he can before it’s too late and the food runs out. And you are the 30-year-old housewife who picks up that same brick an hour later and uses it to crack open the skull of a stranger because she has two children to feed. His arms are full and hers are empty - survival is just that simple sometimes.
You are the ill-prepared family man who foolishly believes the authorities when they say the situation is contained. The line at the gas station is three miles long, wrapping around block after block and so, in a state of denial you go home and play a game of monopoly with the wife and kids as the horde of undead grows and grows all around you.
And you are the soldier on the line, sweating beneath your helmet and vest. At 10 that morning you were a cocky thing. You were going to kick ass - but that was then. Now, 12 hours later, you’ve retreated four times and you are counting your bullets and eyeing the gas mask sitting on the log next to you.
You hate the thing. You can’t see worth a damn when it’s on and you sure as hell can’t shoot straight. But to leave it off could mean becoming infected. On the other hand, you know that if you miss just one time you could be eaten alive, screaming and screaming. It happened to Davis and his cries still ring in your ears.
The mask stays on the log and the headache you’ve had for the last hour really starts to thump and your mouth tastes like ass and your vision is blurry....

Context, Context, Context.
let me start off by saying that context is everything when leaving a review, or talking about anything in general.
if I were to have gone solely off of reviews on this book before buying it, i wouldn't have bought it, which is a shame because these are great books. in a few past reviews, it was said to "not buy this book of you like profanity or the "n" word." which isnt wholly true. sure, there is profanity, but who wouldnt use profanity in dire situations? also, yes, the "n" word is mentioned several times in this book. but what others failed to mention in their reviews was that the useage of that word came from a literal neo-nazi(not the Lefts/snowflake version of a nazi, but a REAL Nazi.) that is a very important thing to note. because without it, it makes the author seem like he himself is a racist, which he is not(you will know what I mean when you read these.)
i urge you to buy these books, they are very great, there are very few books in this genre that get into the science of how the apocs happen, so this seems fresh to me.
i hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

INCREDIBLE!
This book is one of the best Zombie apocalypse stories EVER written. Although I've read quite a few, this one and maybe one or two others have gone in such great detail about the start and origins of the virus. with a cast of memorable characters this book delves not only into the actual origins of how this virus starts, but the actual thought process of the characters who are infected from the first signs until total virus control. This story keeps you on the very edge of your seat, and guessing at every turn. THIS BOOK SERIES MUST BE TRANSFORMED INTO A MOVIE SERIES !!!

A good slow burn
I love books that start out gradually and tell the story of an outbreak from the start and how it spreads. So refreshing that it's not a book where someone just looks outside and its, "ahhhhh zombies!" and little to no explanation is give to the phenomenon. The author does a good job developing each character and you really feel like you know them as a person.

I couldn't finish it.
I used to really love the zombie genre but after barely getting through the second installment of this I think it's time to leave it altogether. Before you assume that I am being dramatic let me just say that I don't think this book is worse than all of the other zombie books that I have read over the years. In fact my biggest criticism is that it is basically a mashup of 90% of the zombie genre. This book is part pro military propaganda, pro cop propaganda and part save the scientists. Mixed in that is a heavy dose of xenophobia and sexism. If that's your thing then this book along with every other typical zombie book is for you.
I've grown tired of this genre and the countless stale retellings of the same thing! It's boring and from the description of the book I thought it would mostly be focused on regular people grappling with the start of the zombie apocalypse. Instead it focused on cops, military bureaucracy and inept or corrupt scientists! Stories of regular people were sprinkled in here or there. These tangents were the most interesting part but then after a few minutes the author went right back to the same thing and I eventually found myself skipping chapters.
Of course it doesn't help that most of the characters are not at all interesting or compelling. This especially goes for the women characters who are basically cardboard cutouts with almost no personality. This of course has to do with how much sexism the writer oozes. It was even topped off with a lead female scientists ranting against feminism. The women are so one-dimensional that two of them fall in love within the span of one day. Which transforms them from competent geniuses into damcels and distress. The most interesting female characters in the story were the kids.
I really did try to ignore all of these flaws and just finish the book but they became too hard to ignore. Especially since the author kept coming out in the characters. Most writers will put some of themselves into their work but with this the author's nationalism and politics kept seeping through and distracting from the story. Which made the characters he was talking through boring. I finally decided that I had enough when he started going on a rant about anti-nationalism and how "intellectuals" were bad for thinking other countries are better than America.

Where Men Are Men & Zombies Are... Bitey
Probably written by a Republican, this trilogy has all the sexist, racist tropes you could desire.
Women are all conniving, manipulative beautiful, and thin. If they're older, they're undesirable shrewish matriarchs. Men have to be good fighters & macho, even if they aren't. Feelings are NOT ALLOWED for men unless it's heterosexual desire.
Asian people are wily and good at science. Gay people aren't mentioned, & I'm going to let you work out for yourself how Black people are described. And - good news! Climate Change isn't real!
Rather a shame because this is a great story, with an awesome plot, and I persevered because the writing was excellent, with some scathing indictments of the American health system & politics. But the bigotry lets it down... unless I'm missing a vast dose of irony. But I doubt it.

I loved this whole series good characters decent story you honestly don't know when/who will die or how.
It's got the sciency bit and done well not completely far fetched. Action done well very entertained and a good bit of skullduggery combined magnificently book 4 and 5 too oh damn!

fairly decent
I enjoyed the take on how inept and weasel like the government would be dealing with a zombie situation. Pretty sure current UK and US governments could do a worse job though.
would have gave the performance 4 stars but it just irked me the way he pronounced gibberish with a hard G. other than that minor thing (that probably only happened once every ten hours) I thought the narration was decent enough.
spoilers........
Dr Lee is a dick. she's nowhere near as smart as she thinks she is. what the fuck is going on with lighting a fire IN THE DOORWAY THEY WANT TO ESCAPE FROM and just telling people as the place starts to fill up with smoke. She's really patronising to Courtney too, who is the real hero of the group.
I actually ended up hating most of the characters by the end with the exception of Courtney,
don't know if I'll get the rest of the series, but this has been enjoyable enough for the 3 quid I paid for it.

zombie mayhem
This book was very enjoyable. Great story lines. Erik Johnson did a narrating job. I will look forward to next in the series.

This guy knows how to write.
Didn't have too much expectations. Something that just spans over a few hours is challenging to write. But Mr Meredith does a splendid job. Believable, very descriptive and captivating. Gonna be checking out any other work he's done.
Oh, almost forgot about the narrator; Eric Johnson. My favourite narrator was Bronson Pinchot but now it's a tie.

World War Z it ain’t
I had to stop listening to this, the writing is full of writing cliches and stereotypes.

The end is nigh
Wow what a wild ride, this story covers the "inevitable" zombie apocalypse we all know is coming, but not from your usual post outbreak world ala those walking dead guys, this story takes place while the outbreak is starting and rises to a crescendo that leaves you in no doubt that the end is upon us. Taking place over just a few days with the initial infected running amok it explores the very realistic outcome of a true zombie plague.

Great ending.
I like how the author finished this series off. There was never a time when I knew how it would end. Also the start was amazing once you get past the backstory of each character.

Libs rekt
The story is good, it’s a nice detailed change from the standard generic zombie apocalypse tale, and the performance is fine. However the politics of the writer (anti-Chinese, anti modern feminist and “they don’t have a second amendment and are therefore weak”) revealed every now and then makes it extremely off putting and some of the main characters laughably unconvincing. But still, at least the main character isn’t an ex-marine or ex-navy seal or whatever.
