Publisher's Summary

Montana, USA.

When Lance Spector quit the CIA, he swore he was out for good.

One more government lie and he would go off the deep end.

They could find someone else to do their dirty work.

As far as he was concerned, Washington, Langley, the Pentagon could all go to hell.

Yekaterinburg, Russia.

A secret Russian expedition returns with a devastating new pathogen, harvested from the frozen corpses of mammoths.

It's the biological super-weapon they've been looking for, an apocalypse-level pathogen, a virus more deadly than anything ever to come from a Russian lab.

Something that will stop NATO and the Americans in their tracks.

A biological Chernobyl.

Washington, DC, USA.

A mysterious vial, sealed in a titanium case, arrives at CIA headquarters. They have no idea who sent it, but it comes with a note.

"I will only speak to Lance Spector".

The Asset by Saul Herzog is a stunning new thriller, a spectacular tour de force, an audiobook that has single-handedly taken the publishing industry, and Hollywood rights departments, by storm. This dazzling debut kicks off the jaw-dropping new Lance Spector series, and sets the stage for a franchise that's on track to break all records. From the mind of one of the most creative and versatile writers working in America today, this audiobook will go down as a classic of the spy thriller genre.

If you listen to only one audiobook this year, this is it. Action, adventure, rebellion, provocative foreign agents, characters you can sink your teeth into. If you're looking for a new spy thriller series that will stay with you long after you listen until the end, look no further.

Recommended for fans of Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne, and Brad Thor's Scot Harvath.

A ridiculous cartoon of a novel with horrible narration.

First off the narration is horrible. The narrator's pathetic attempt at speaking with Russian accents was like nails on a chalkboard. Moving along, I couldn't get past Chapter six. I tried. The technical errors in this book showed a lack of knowledge, or at least, research by the author. The GRU is Russian military intelligence. It is not the CIA's counterpart. The SVR is the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, and the FSB (State Security) to a lesser extent are both Russia's CIA "counterpart". That may seem a minor error, but it certainly makes the developing story unimportant when you feel like you are grading a third grade book report, rather than listening to an immersive thriller.
I suspect anyone that gave this a positive review has been paid to do so, is in Middle School, or thinks Scooby Doo is a true crime documentary.
If you have any military, governmental, or political experience you likely will (should) find this presentation ridiculous.

OK story, weak narrator . Terrible job with accent

Main character voicing was ok, if expressionless. Other characters are cartoonish, Russian accents were like Boris & Natasha. It detracts from the story.

Pretty inane

Story line predictable. Characters predictable. Basically kinda boring, especially on a 4 hour road trip.

Painful performance

Story was just okay but the narrator trying to pull off a Russian accent was painful.

Shoot the narrator!

Put this guy out of our misery. He’s absolutely horrific at narrating and it completely ruins the story.

His Russian accents are unbelievably hideous and his character voices are almost as bad. He makes women sound pathetically breathy and simpering. Makes men sound like cartoon characters. Makes me want to vomit.

Disappointing

Average story that jumps from scene to scene without explanation coupled with poor narration and bad dry mouth.

Sound quality check PLEASE!!!!!

Story was good, I enjoyed the spycraft and biological weapon story however I found it very difficult to listen for long periods as the narrator was suffering from the worst case of dry mouth I've ever heard. There were constant wet noises from the narrator's voice when he spoke. This was very distracting and after listening for long periods, I found I was more concentrating on the wet, smacking sounds than the actual story. Please keep an ear out for this during quality checks in future.
