Publisher's Summary

The long awaited sequel to the Inheritance trilogy - a novella by award-winning author N. K. Jemisin where a godling must struggle to grow in the shadow of her parents.

Some truths must be learned the hard way....

As the first new godling born in thousands of years - and the heir presumptive to Sieh the Trickster - Shill's got big shoes to fill. She's well on her way when she defies her parents and sneaks off to the mortal realm, which is no place for an impressionable young god. In short order she steals a demon's grandchild, gets herself embroiled in a secret underground magical dance competition, and offends her oldest and most powerful sibling.

But for Eino, the young Darren man whom Shill has befriended, the god-child's silly games are serious business. Trapped in an arranged marriage and prohibited from pursuing his dreams, he has had enough. He will choose his own fate, even if he must betray a friend in the process - and Shill might just have to grow up faster than she thinks.

This novella, The Awakened Kingdom, takes place after the events of The Kingdom of Gods and will also be included in both the print and e-book ominbus of the Inheritance Trilogy.

Outstanding voice acting work

A good addition to the series. Funny and emotionally moving. It is a lot shorter than I am usually willing to spend a credit on but the voice acting made it so worth it. The actress adds so much to the story with Shill's voice and how it evolves as she finds her nature. I have been listening to audiobooks almost daily since 2012 and this was one of the best performances I've heard.

not the best by this author

I love this author, not her best work.
Cute idea.. very thin plot. Feels like she was in a rush to end it. Sad thatmany potential side stories were not explored.

Best Performance I've Ever Heard

This narrator brought Shill to life! 12/10 would recommend. Not as deep of a plot as the others in the series, but fits nicely in with the rest.

amazing

I love this book. It is a very well done short story in the same reality as the hundred thousand kingdoms. I find myself going back to this book again and again and recommend to everyone who likes the other books.

Extremely creative!!

Not only creative but memorable. You won't regret purchasing or reading this book. I liked what the Godlings nature turned out to be and how the auther reversed commonly accepted roles in society.
