Publisher's Summary

In L. A. Banks' The Awakening there is a vampire war brewing in the underworld and at the center of it all is Damali Richards, spoken word artist and Vampire Huntress. But she is not just any Vampire Huntress, she is the millennium Neteru. A woman so potentially powerful that the vampire world is about to invoke a bloody battle that threatens to spill over onto her streets in order to possess her. It's just a matter of who will get to her first.

Fallon Nuit, a rogue vampire, is one of the most powerful Damali has ever encountered and he has allied himself with the deadly Amanrath demons in order to claim her. But the Vampire Council has plans for her as well. And now an unlikely variable has entered into the equation, an ex-lover now turned vampire with an agenda of his own. And she must risk trusting him once more if they are to survive.

Great Book...Terrible Narration

This is a priceless series from beginning to end. I was so excited to see that the first two books in the series were on Audible. However, after my first listen I wanted to throw my mp3 player out of the window. The narration is just not up to par and actually makes the listen difficult. Hillary Huber does not come close to capturing the urban genre and feel of the characters. She sounds like a cross between Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Can we please replace Hillary Huber with Bahni Turpin or Lisa Renee Pitts...Narration can make or break an audio book. Had it not been for the fact that I'm an avid fan of this series and have read every book, I would have given it one star, just because of the narrator. However, I've given it four stars instead of the five it deserves...Please use someone else for the remaining books....Please, please, please.....

Great series, bad narrator

I have been a fan of the Vampire Huntress Series since the beginning. I'm very excited that Audible has the first 2 books in the series available. Unfortunately, the narrator of these books really detracts from the greatness of the stories. Ms. Huber is excellent at the basic narration of the book but the voices that she uses while trying to capture the urban feel of the characters is quite literally laughable. At times it borders on being stereotypically offensive. The publisher (Penguin?) of Ms. Banks' series really needs to look into getting a narrator that can fully capture the spirit and characters of this wonderful series.

Because of the narrator I am forced to give this book 4 stars instead of 5.

Narration SUCKS!!!!!!!

I am a long time reader of Miss Banks (RIP) and LOVE her books, her characters and her story-lines. Had it not been for the fact that I own this entire series and have read them ALL multiple times, I would never have made it past chapter 3. This narrator, who is great in the Lara Adrian Breed series lacks the necessary urbanity to carry this series. I seriously want my money back for this waste.

Love The Series

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I love the Series and was looking forward to listening. It took everything in me to continue listening. The Narrator SUCKS! Her attempt at voice changing for each character was the worse I've ever heard it made it very hard to continue with the book. Please don't let her narrate another book in this series! It will defenitly hurt sale's of the audio book!

Would you recommend The Awakening to your friends? Why or why not?

NO.. Because of the Narrator

How could the performance have been better?

She is no good at voice characters

Did The Awakening inspire you to do anything?

No

Any additional comments?

Hire a new Narrator..someone that is good at ethenic characters!!!!

love the series.

the narrators language is too proper for this story. When you are reading a story with slang words you kind of have to pronounce them with a certain rhythm, a certain sound. To me it doesn't work if you say complete words like you're insted of yo.
It was a little distracting to the story the way the narrator read the slang words. and when she tried to rap... well it is all about rhythm and performance.

Good entertaining story, what more can you ask for

This second book was much better than the first, I thought there was more action going on and the author brought more 'layers' to the story which made it unexpected, entertaining and you could visualize the scene . I had the speed doubled up but I didn't think the narrator was all that bad - I've heard worse.

Please bring out more on audible.

Well worth my credit.

wish the whole series was on audible

this book is great! the writer is incredibly descriptive and she has a good story to tell i will be following up and reading the rest of the series since only the first two books are on audio, so that is the only drawback.

Vampires demon heaven and hell

I absolutely love this book and how Damali and Carlos have this connection everyone is romantics st hearts love. We all envy their relationship of this young beautiful couple love each other.

I didn't think I would like the religion in this series but it actually turned out to be my absolute favorite aspect of the series.

The 1 small thing I disliked was some of the slang I didn't under but that's on me no one else.

This book is action packed with a romance that's been years in the making and sometimes they were never on the same page hell sometimes they were never on the same book. But now they are catching up and it's beautiful.
