Great Story

I'm giving this 5 stars because it was great overall. Good story line, good development of characters and the ending tied up with a neat bow. And another outstanding performance by Imogen Church. I think I could listen to anything that woman narrates.

Horrible & predicable!!

Don't waste a credit. This was a horrible story. Totally obvious and none of the characters were the least bit likable. I only stuck with it because I was expecting a twist at the end that never came.

Mesmerizing, not a babysitter affair-

Great book, listened all day, night, and next day- love it when a book keeps me this interested. Characters are engaging, narrator is pleasing and no sexual explicit teenage babysitter affair- the biggest suprise of all!

I can’t handle the narrator

I’ve listened to several of this author’s titles and I have enjoyed them all but the narrator does nothing for this story. Her performance is overly dramatic, too intense, and the cadence is weird— like being read a children’s book. I feel like I’m listening to a dramatic re-enactment of Macbeth not an mystery audio book. The story itself had the bones of something good but was more predictable than her other pieces— if it became more interesting later on I can’t say because I wasn’t able to finish due to the grating narration. I highly recommend the author, just not this book.

Great character development!

The author give you a view into the thoughts, motives and emotions of both the parents and the abductors, showing the story from three different viewpoints. I couldn’t stop listening, and I couldn’t decide how it was going to end or how I wanted it to end.

Pathetic

The main character really frustrated me. What a liar so pathetic. Girl needs to suffer in jail. I’m returning this for a credit.

I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR MORE! NEXT!

Great story that kept me wanting to listen chapter after chapter. This is the first book I've listened to by this author and I'm anxious to start the next one. The narration is wonderful as well. I've listened to other books by the same narrator.

Distracting narrator

This is a really interesting story and well written. Unfortunately, the cadence and inflection of her reading is very difficult to listen to. If I wasn’t vested in the end, I honestly couldn’t have made it through.

Narration was odd for me

I’ve listened to other books narrated by Imogen but for some reason this one just seemed…..odd. Good story and would most definitely suggest it.

much better than reviews suggest

I was a bit concerned I wouldn't like this book, the reviews were quite uncomplimentary (particularly about the narrator) I actually picked it because of Imogen Church, she's absolutely fantastic. It was a brilliant book, really well written and read. I listen to all my books on superfast speed, so I wasn't as put off by the narration as others were.
I'll definitely listen to another one of Gemma's books, I read payback last year, so I've got a few to go.

Please stop using Imogen Church

Once again, Imogen Church tries her best to ruin a fairly decent book. Decent plot line if a little repetitive and drawn out but the narration is so over the top. Can someone tell her she is not on stage at the Globe doing Shakespeare please.

Disappointed

A very good story completely ruined by the narrator speaking in various stupid voices.

Horrible!

I came here thinking I'd be the only one that found the narration absolutely awful! I managed to listen up to chapter 16 (fairing better than some of my fellow listeners) but after repeatedly saying out loud "oh shut up!" to my pill speaker I threw in the towel.
I think the story would have been good was it not for the grating robotic tone of the narrator. I love the author's other stories but unfortunately this one was a huge NOPE.

Clever idea for a story

I enjoyed this book very much. I was thinking about how it would progress when I wasn't even reading it! That's when I know a story has got me. Overall a good read. My only gripe was the narration, sorry, but absolutely awful at times.

Good story let down by narration

Struggled with over exaggerated narration, to the point of irritation. Storyline good however so persevered

So disappointed

I absolutely love all of Gemma Rodger’s books and especially love the narrator she uses In her precious stories - Georgia McQuire. Sadly I could not listen beyond chapter 4 purely because of the awful narrator! Having a good one changes the whole book. The voice were simply awful and the reason why so returned.

fantastic story

absolutely loved the story my only negative was the narrator and her terrible voices but I got used to it as i enjoyed the story so much . Eden parents voices and her mother's really grated on my nerves but I think most people find upper class public school voices irritating. but love Gemma's books I'm going now to listen to bad girls and that's me listened to all of them

Awful narration!

Real shame as I like Gemma Rogers as an author and have really enjoyed listening to her other audio books but unfortunately the narration was so annoying and bad that I couldn’t listen to the whole book. Waste if a credit
