Publisher's Summary

Stephanie Garber's The Ballad of Never After is the fiercely anticipated sequel to the #1 New York Times bestseller Once Upon a Broken Heart, starring Evangeline Fox and the Prince of Hearts on a new journey of magic, mystery, and heartbreak.

Not every love is meant to be.

After Jacks, the Prince of Hearts, betrays her, Evangeline Fox swears she'll never trust him again. Now that she’s discovered her own magic, Evangeline believes she can use it to restore the chance at happily ever after that Jacks stole away.

But when a new terrifying curse is revealed, Evangeline finds herself entering into a tenuous partnership with the Prince of Hearts again. Only this time, the rules have changed. Jacks isn’t the only force Evangeline needs to be wary of. In fact, he might be the only one she can trust, despite her desire to despise him.

Instead of a love spell wreaking havoc on Evangeline’s life, a murderous spell has been cast. To break it, Evangeline and Jacks will have to do battle with old friends, new foes, and a magic that plays with heads and hearts. Evangeline has always trusted her heart, but this time she’s not sure she can. . . .

I need a third book!

I was captivated through most of the book, the middle was a little slow. I'm so invested in the characters and their backgrounds.

I do have one complaint. the book had glitches towards the end and I believe skipped some important information around chapter 42. Maybe two minutes were missing.

The narration is amazing! I will be waiting to see if there is a third book. Please let there be a third book!

It cuts off?

This book was fine. I loved it, it was emotional, yada yada. My one big annoyance is that fact that at the end of chapter 45 IT CUTS OFF WE DONT GET THE HEAR THE REST OF THE STORY.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking “it was just part of the story.” BUT NO ITS NOT. I HAVE READ THE PYSCH COPY OF THE BOOK AND THE CHAPTER ACTUALLY FINISHES IN IT. I don’t know WHY in audible it cuts off like that when clearly they are more words to be said. However, ITS SO ANNOYING BECAUSE I THOUGHT THATS HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.
So everyone who has only read the audio version, remember that there’s more in that chapter.
you’re welcome.

Boring

This story was just a giant filler. I don’t know if I have it in me to read anymore of this series. The main character is so annoying.

Favorite book of 2022

TBONA may be my favorite 2022 book.

This was my most anticipated sequel of 2022. Stephanie has built a fantastic world of fairytales and magic. TBONA expanded on the storyline from OUABH with all the characters returning. Stephanie’s writing has matured from her Caraval trilogy as this series has interwoven details that make sense. With so much mystery and tension 🔥 🥵 it consumed my sleep and waking thoughts. I couldn’t put it down.

This is a true YA series due to its PG 13 spice and limited quantity of non-graphic violence.

This is Stephanie’s best book yet.
