Story
Opulent doesn't begin to describe the Arizona getaway where Lowell Thurman, his wife Rachel, and their three young sons have come for one glorious week. Everything at The Reata is perfect - although Rachel is a bit unnerved by the openly lustful gaze of one of the gardeners, something she doesn't mention to Lowell. Nor does he tell her about the frightening sensation he has in the pool of hands clutching at him, trying to pull him under.

Story
In a small Arizona town, a man counts his blessings: a loving wife, two teenage daughters, and a job that allows him to work at home. Then "The Store" announces plans to open a local outlet, which will surely finish off the small downtown shops. His concerns grow when "The Store's" builders ignore all the town's zoning laws during its construction. Then dead animals are found on "The Store's" grounds. Inside, customers are hounded by obnoxious sales people, and strange products appear on the shelves.

Story
The festival was intended as a getaway from UCLA for Gary, his girlfriend, Joan, and their friends. But soon after they arrive, Joan vanishes. Calls to her parents’ home yield only dead air. Her school records are gone. And there’s no evidence that Joan, or even her roommate, ever existed. Most disturbing of all is what they do find. Among Joan’s belongings is a prayer written on a small scroll. It’s a safeguard — and a warning — from something called The Outsiders. For Gary and his friends, it’s the only clue.

In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Publisher's Summary
"We know who you are! Can your current bank say that? We pride ourselves on providing unparalleled service to all of our customers. We're looking forward to banking with you!"
In the small town of Montgomery, Arizona, Kyle Decker's book shop is barely breaking even. When a bank opens in the empty storefront next door, he hopes the new establishment will bring in more foot traffic. Trouble is, nobody has ever heard of the First People's Bank, and the local branch has appeared mysteriously overnight.
Their incentives for new customers seem reasonable...at first. But is it a coincidence when Kyle's wife has her identity stolen and his son receives emails that seem to know his private thoughts? Or when the manager of a competing financial institution dies a gruesome death?
Soon, if people in Montgomery, Arizona, want to buy a new car or home or if they need a small business loan, they have no choice but to work with the First People's Bank. As the bank makes increasingly bizarre demands on its customers, it becomes clear the town may be in too deep...and the penalty for an early withdrawal is too terrifying to imagine.
With his latest original novel, Bentley Little's dark, razor-sharp satire takes on the worst practices of our banking industry, and you'll never look at your loan officer the same way again.

Political
I have always enjoyed Bentley Little books, but with our political environment today I felt this was too much. it makes liberals look like morons and any gun owner a redneck racist murderer. This is the kind of thing that feeds stereotypes.
The ending was a let down, it didnt build it up enough.
on a high note, the narrator was good.

Too much of the same
I love BL and own all of his books, but several are just retreads of older stories. How does this book differ from The Mailman? Or the Store? Or many others. They all follow the very same format and this one really had no plot, just a string of scenes to fill the page requirement. This book was a disappointment.

..again
I really wanted to like this story. After listening to one other book, I find this particular story to be repetitive and not original. I’m not an author and I have no talent for story telling. I do not like to give a negative review to any author, however, this story is similar to other stories this author has given us. I appreciate the attempt at suspense and terror but I don’t think I’ll be listening to another one of his stories.

Pretty sinister, poor ending
Good premise, good storyline, a few too many sexual references, but still a well structured tale. However, I was quite disappointed with the ending. I have many questions. Perhaps they will be answered in another book, but that does not help me now with this all too abrupt ending.

not his best but the narrator made it bearable
way too much going on with different characters and different plots where it was just too much and In my opinion some things were just open ended/unresolved (i.e. Nick's friend Aaron...was missing what happened to him...) crazy concept with the bank it was a good idea just wasn't set up enough where it just felt really rushed and all over the place.

I wish he would knock off the animal cruelty...
This is the second BL book with parts I have had to skip past animal mutilation and cruelty (the first being The Resort) and I have only listened to two!
The narrator is fantastic and I enjoyed the theme, despite massive similarities to Needful Things.
He is a creepy writer but I personally don’t care for the gratuitous torture of critters so I knocked off a star. It actually makes reluctant to try any of his other books.

Fun Bentley Little Book - Great Narration
Audiobook review here. I'm a BL fan. The Bank was definitely worth a listen. I liked the that there were several overlapping storylines that slowly converged throughout the book. The way BL pits unsuspecting everyday folk against the supernatural never gets old.
I mainly gave it 5 stars due to the narrator's performance. The amount of characters, personalities, accents and voices the narrator had to pull off was amazing. I hope he does more of BL's books.
(Slight spoiler) The sheriff's wife talking to her "new" family in the empty house was beyond creepy.

No surprises, but not a bad listen
If like me you have listened to The Store or The Consultant then The Bank will hold no surprises.
The Bank is a good listen but I found the ending a disappointment, as I did with the books mentioned.
Bentley Little books are good but, there is a familiar story line running through a few of them.
His endings are always an anti climax, the only time I have not been too disappointed is when I listened to The Haunted.
Still, he has brought out a few books now and I hope his story endings will get better, fingers crossed.

Little is on form with this deliciously satirical view of the banking industry.
Ask any diehard fan of Bentley Littles audiobooks and I’m sure they’d agree that the prospect of listening to one narrated by someone other than David Stifel is enough to leave them gibbering in a corner somewhere. However Pirhallas delivery of The Bank is certainly one to experience.
Pirhalla cleanly delivers a variety of accents to the characters allowing the listener to immerse themselves in the story with ease, while the clever use of editing techniques within bring a deeper sense of realism to the delivery.*
*Eg. Changing the audio quality to replicate a phone call etc.

enjoyed it. Reminded me of Stephen kings Needful Things, when a new antique store, with oddities, came to town. The Bank has a macabre feel to it. Element of supernatural.
