When a pseudonymous programmer introduced “a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party” to a small Online mailing list in 2008, very few paid attention. Ten years later, and against all odds, this upstart autonomous decentralized software offers an unstoppable and globally-accessible hard money alternative to modern central banks. Bitcoin has taken the world by storm once again when it crossed $20,000 per BTC in December of last year. Immediately, as it happened in 2017, a lot of people started trying to improvise themselves as professional investors. While some of them have made decent returns in the past few months, there is no doubt they are going to give them back to the market once prices stop going parabolic.

The story of Ethereum begins with Vitalik Buterin, a supremely gifted 19-year-old autodidact who saw the promise of blockchain when the technology was in its earliest stages. He convinced a crack group of coders to join him in his quest to make a super-charged, global computer. The Infinite Machine introduces Vitalik’s ingenious idea and unfolds Ethereum’s chaotic beginnings. It then explores the brilliant innovation and reckless greed the platform has unleashed and the consequences that resulted as the frenzy surrounding it grew.

In this fascinating deep dive into the evolution of monetary systems around the globe, Nik Bhatia takes us into the origins of how money has evolved to function in a “layered” manner. Using gold as an example of this term, he traces the layers of this ancient currency from raw mined material, to gold coins, and finally to bank-issued gold certificates. In a groundbreaking manner, Bhatia offers a similar paradigm for the evolution of digital currencies.

Author didn't do the whole job.
Author does an excellent job of breaking down everything about Bitcoin and much of cryptocurrency as a whole. in the beginning of the book there's a rather excellent breakdown of the various functions of banks.
however, in this audiobook, we are continually instructed to refer to image 2.1 or image 4.4, it doesn't matter if they're supplied with the PDF or not. It's no longer strictly an audiobook if I keep having to look up resources, which is rather clumsy to do on the audible app to begin with. it might take a paragraph, but it's usually not too difficult to convey the essential points of a pictorial graph or diagram using only regular sentences. this was not done, you're referred to an image, then the author continues with "as you can see, " but I can't, because I'm driving.
Even without looking at the images, you can usually get the gist of what he's trying to convey, but being referred to an image that you're not looking at every few minutes becomes extremely irritating.

Reads like a college textbook
Although the information in this book was relevant to bitcoin, I lost a lot of interest in the text because it was overly complex. It read like an old professor in lecture reading off something you couldn't care for.
I believe this is perhaps better read as a textbook vs an audiobook. The reader would benefit from highlighting and making notes in this kind of book.
The performance could have used a little more enthusiasm, but i suppose that comes with the text.

Good Introduction to Cryptocurrency
I enjoyed listening to the background of money, Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrency. Also the lessons on blockchains and the vast inner workings of this technology. There is a whole lot to grasp and this book was a good head start for those that may be interested in Bitcoin or others. I believe this is not going away or is it just a fad. As of this review, this book is slightly dated, but the concepts are there. I insist that anyone due their own due diligence and again, this is a great start. I would recommend the listen or read.

Enjoyed how the book starts describing money and how we’ve exchanged value throughout history (areas not discussed enough when talking about cryptocurrency) Learnt some fun facts about the history of money.
Really great explanation on the basics of cryptography sets the scene well to go into the details or bitcoin and blockchains.
