Publisher's Summary

It’s said no man is an island. But writer Parish Adams is out to prove them wrong. Broken and unable to bear the violent death of his child, he’s isolated himself on a private beach in Maine. He finds no comfort in the warmth of relationships. For Parish, the cold Atlantic Ocean is company enough.

Scarlett Lyon’s life has taken a dramatic turn. Single and independent, living in Montana, nothing was tying her down. Then her sister’s fatal accident changes everything. She finds herself guardian for her nephew Sam. Now she must relocate to Martin’s Beach. And more jarring than that, become a mother figure.

Three wounded hearts. Two passionate souls. One tempestuous beach in winter.

Beautiful Story!

This is the second book in the Lyon Family series. Parish and Scarlett's story is beautifully written, sweet, emotional, and heartwarming. My heart broke for Parish. He is handsome. Scarlett is smart, strong, and caring. Her nephew Sam is such a great kid. I loved to follow them in their very beautiful story. The supporting characters are amazing. I loved the family bond in this story. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell did a fantastic job with the narration. This is my favorite in the series, and I HIGHLY recommend it. Looking forward to listening to more books in the series.

Heart-wrenching Story!

As someone who has struggled with the loss of her husband over the last year these stories tend to get me. Leslie Pike did an amazing job tackling a real look at grief. I loved Scarlett’s character. She was incredibly resilient and strong. She had a tough loss and instead of letting it beat her down she faced it head on. It was admirable. She also seemed to really know how to go about Parish. She backed off when it was necessary but didn’t just let him wallow. Now Parish I could relate to his heartbreaking experience. He was so broken and lost when Scarlett found him. This is such a heartbreaking story with second chances and finding one’s way through grief.

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell did a fantastic job narrating this audiobook. You can tell that these two narrators really cared about the character traits here because they showcased them in their narration flawlessly. Arden really channeled Parish’s raw and hurt personality but he also showed how strong he was. It was a real balance not to just be the hurt person. Mitchell really excelled at bringing Scarlett to life. I loved the fierce determination she brought to the character, not just for Parish but for being the new caregiver for her nephew. It was an amazing narration.

Emotional and Heartfelt Love Story!

The Beach in Winter by Leslie Pike was emotional, heartfelt, and oh so swoony. Lesile Pike is a new to me author, and I loved everything about this book. Parish and Scarlett are two lost souls with tragic pasts who together, find solace and comfort in each other. This story is beautifully written, and I found myself completely captivated with Parish and Scarlett's love story.

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell narrate this audio, and they absolutely blew me away with their performances. I love that these two always put their heart and soul in their performances. Maxine Mitchell was so moving showcasing all of Scarlett's doubts, desires, and determination to step up for her nephew Sam, during a time of loss and healing. Joe Arden's performance of Parish was raw, desperate, yet brave and heroic as he struggled to heal from past wounds and learn to love again. Both narrators were just the perfect pairing for Scarlet and Parish.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. If you love a romance with a wounded heroic hunky writer, an aunt determined to do what's best for her nephew, a supportive caring family, romantic walks on the beach, swoon-worthy steamy times, a little bit of angst, and the sweetest HEA that will make your heart soar, then you will adore Parish and Scarlett's love story. Lesile Pike has gained a new fan, and I can't wait to listen to the rest of the Lyon's family series.

Parish, Scarlet and Sam!

Leslie Pike just keeps captivating my heart with her books in the Lyon Family. This is an emotional journey that had me at the first scene. Parish Adams has basically secluded himself since the death of his son. Unable to deal with his broken heart, he has taken to his beach in Maine. Scarlett Lyon has come to Maine to take care of her nephew, Sam. The untimely death of her sister and brother-in-law has taken it's toll on her and Sam. But Solace at the beach, and meeting her neighbor has brought a new light in all of three of their lives. Three broken souls. Will they be able to mend each other? I truly enjoyed this story. As a parent, we live our worst nightmare, and relating to Sam just opens our hearts to want to help him. The budding relationship between Parish and Scarlett is beautiful, at times frustrating but does have those heartwarming moments. Scarlett and Sam have quite a few obstacles, and understandably so. There is so much to deal with at times like they are dealing with and the broken heart tends to take a back seat. It's hard for them both but the forging of a new normal is evident. And Parish with Sam is just amazing. Just when Sam needs it the most, a role model is brought to him, flaws and all, straight talking and true. This is a fabulous story to tug at your heart, and you get to visit with the Lyons, which is a plus all in itself!

Narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell, we are treated to an emotionally charged and beautiful story telling. These two are wonderful together, playing off each other's voices and feelings. I enjoyed their interpretation of the story and always look forward to more of their collaborations.

4.5 Captivating Stars!

I really enjoyed this captivating and emotional romance. This is a heartbreaking yet beautiful story of tragedy and learning to live again. Parish Adams is barely hanging on after a heartbreaking tragedy several years back. His new neighbors, Scarlett Lyon and her nephew, Sam, have just suffered their own heartbreaking loss. Scarlett is now Sam's guardian and they are living in the beach house to find some kind of normal. The three of them have come into each other's lives just when they needed each other most. They are three broken people with emotional scars and are drawn to each other instantly. They help each other face their heartache, and build strength to heal. It wasn't easy as they stumbled along the way, but found joy, and learned to live and love again. I love Parish, Scarlett, and Sam. They are smart, sensitive, and charming, and their strength to overcome their anguish was extraordinary.
I loved Joe Arden, and Maxine Mitchell's breathtaking narration. They do a great job evolving Parish, Scarlett, and Sam's touching relationship thru their rollercoaster journey making me feel all the angst, heartbreak, joy, and passion they felt. I loved getting lost to their performance of this gripping and emotional story of loss, healing, and love.

Magnificent story of loss, healing, and love!

Oh my heart! It has been a very long time that a book has effected me like this emotionally. This is a story of three deeply wounded hearts, and how they all help each other cope with unbelievable loss. The anguish, the utter despair, debilitating pain of the loss of a loved one. Also, a wonderful and believable story of two passionate souls (Kindred Spirits) destined to be together, healing each other. This delivers all the feels!
Parish Adams, a writer, who lost his young son tragically years ago is a damaged and broken soul who’s become a recluse on a private beach in Maine. He does not engage in conversations with locals, and he drinks himself into a stupor every night on the sandy, cold beach outside his home trying to forget and numb the all consuming pain he feels every second of every day of loosing his child. This all changes when he notices his neighbors. He recognizes the teen boy, but not the beautiful young woman. Turns out, it is the Sister of his neighbor who recently died along with her husband. Leaving their 13 year old son, Sam, in her charge. Scarlett Lyon never thought she would be a mother, has no idea on where to start with it. She’s trying to heal with the loss of her sister. Her family, her parents and her siblings are all very close.
The first few chapters where we get to know our characters, how they meet, interact with each other really broke my heart! Leslie is such a wonderfully detailed writer! I could feel all the grief, pain, conflict, desperation deep in my heart. She’s just magnificent in all the small details that create an amazing story I can visualize…
I loved the instant connection, the immediate sexual chemistry between Parish and Scarlett. She brought him out of his shell, a playful side to him. I also enjoyed laughs throughout this book too, which was much needed. It was so endearing to see the development of Parish’s and Sam’s friendship and ultimately bonding over each having such deep losses. It’s a bond they both need to help each other heal. Parish helps Scarlett navigate parenthood, and starts really falling for her. The love that they start feeling for each other is slow, organic. And WOW…. the sexy times were so steamy and deliciously intense! It was just so heartwarming to see how all 3 of them were there for each other and started to heal together and find love.
Narration duo, Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden do what they do best to me…. Rip my damn heart out, stomp on it, then put it back again whole and full. They were both absolute PERFECTION in their performances! Maxine blew me away with her phenomenal performance of Scarlett. I could feel the deep, deep pain of her loosing her sister, having to deal with a teen boy (I can personally relate to that one), her conflicting emotions in her inner dialogue was so believable! She also brought great sass, stubborn, sarcastic to this well rounded character. Wow… the emotional rollercoaster of her relationship with Parish, I’m just so impressed! Gahhhh…. Joe really made my heart hurt with all his emotions he put into Parish’s character. With all the unbelievable grief and loss, had me reeling with heartache. As the story progressed, he really impressed me how he was always able to “bring me along” on Parish’s emotional journey. Arden…. this was next level! Fantastic.
What a phenomenal story of grief, mourning, and ultimately healing of 3 lost souls. They all found strength and love together, but it was quite a long journey for them to get there.

5 Emotional Stars

Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden both were fantastic as Scarlett and Parish. Both Scarlett and Parished had suffered terrible tragedies before they met so this made for a very emotional story. This is why I am so glad I listened in audio because Maxine and Joe are at their best with emotional scenes.
I also loved that the HEA was very hard fought but was so satisfying. One of my favorite stories of the year.

finding love out of tragedy

Scarlett, Sam and Parish, all had someone close to them that died unexpectedly. Those events change their lives forever.
Scarlett Lyon is single, loves being the favorite aunt to 13 year old Sam. When her sister and brother- in- law were killed in a crash, Scarlett has become his guardian. How is she going to connect with him ? She knows she has to put him first, but how can she go on when she is grieving too?
Sam has his own turmoil. At 13, life as he knew it is no longer the same. He is lost, dejected, and feels life isn't fair.
Parish, the brooding next door neighbor, has his own story of tragedy.
A best selling author, keeping his anonymity secret. He is alone, grieving the loss of his child, living a hermit life. He is known as the drunk man on the beach.
This beautiful, emotional, sexy, romantic story is about finding love out of tragedy. It's about grief, healing, trust, forgiveness, opening up to let love in your heart.
Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell are wonderful narrators and portray all the emotions, love, angst and feelings of despair of each and every Character. I really enjoyed listening to this second story of the Lyon family series and look forward for more. I was gifted this Audio by Leslie Pike and offered my honest review
