Publisher's Summary

Ninety percent of Americans own a copy of the Bible, and while it's the most widely read book, it's also the least understood. Regardless of your religion, understanding the Bible brings much of Western art, literature, and public discourse into greater focus - from Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" painting to the Wachowski brothers' The Matrix movies. People have historically turned to religion to deal with tragedy and change, and with the right insight, the Bible can be an accessible, helpful guide to life's big questions.

The Bible for Dummies appeals to people of all faiths, as well as those who don't practice any particular religion, by providing interfaith coverage of the entire Bible and the often fascinating background information that makes the Bible come alive. You'll find answers to such questions as:

  • Where did the Bible come from?
  • Who wrote the Bible?
  • How is the Bible put together?

Follow the history of the Bible from its beginning thousands of years ago as tattered scrolls to its status as the best seller of all time.

Welcome, Dummies, to Audiobooks!

My only issue is that the chapters are not named as in other Dummies audiobooks. This makes it difficult to go to specific areas. And since this isn’t a Whisper Synch book, you cannot count on the kindle version to guide you through since the chapters don’t coincide.

Otherwise, I’m pleased as punch to see more dummies guides added to audio books. Just, please, get the chapters right.

Excellent Overview of the Old and New Testaments

Well read by the narrator, this is a very good breakdown on the old and new testaments. The author covers the subject thoroughly while injecting a bit of humor so as to keep the book interesting, and engaging.
It also touches on the influence that the Bible has on our society to this day. At the end, there is a brief mention of the relationship between the three Abrahamic religions ; Judaism, Christianity and Islam. I think the author could’ve spent a bit more time on that.
Well worth the listen! Especially if you’re interested in studying the Bible but aren’t sure where or how to start.

Pathetic

The dummy is the author. Horribly written. This is NOT a reading but a pompous attempt to postulate on how other theologians view the bible most of whom dont believe in the God the Bible. And so much time is wasted being "cute" and discussing nearly totally unrelated side issues and not even reading the verses. And finally the narrator sounds like a sing song stuck up .... well the backside of a horse. This is not what a Christian ... a true follower of Christ.. that believes Christ is the Son of God...would even remotely consider as a valid reference.

Great little overview!

Great little overview, some of those smaller things that I never understood were made clear.

Everything Explained

Everything explained to you in easy to understand language. Let's face it, the Bible can be pretty confusing the first time you read it. There's so many people and sections that it can be hard to follow along. But this book goes a long way to straightening things out and making them easier to follow. Great for beginners and those who want to get back in touch with their faith.
