Publisher's Summary

New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s heartwarming novel about old rivalries, young love, and a lemon meringue pie to die for.

In Bonnet, Texas, Liddy Latham, the queen of funeral dinners, keeps a Southern comfort-food tradition alive - until fancy-schmancy Matilda Monroe moves back to town. She wants room at the table for her own style of consolation and closure: healthy, modern, and vegan. But this is about more than fried chicken versus tofu turkey. Matilda’s return is also stirring up their volatile, unresolved history. And just when they thought it couldn’t get more personal...

Matilda’s son, Nick, and Liddy’s niece, Amelia, have met and the sparks are flying. For Matilda and Liddy, their precious kin’s romance is their worst nightmare. Now, it’s all Nick and Amelia can do to survive a family feud that has the whole town talking.

The battle for the funeral dinner crown is on. As two strong-willed women wrestle for control, making peace with the past may be the only way to serve the star-crossed lovers a happy ending.

Critic Reviews

“Two longtime rivals are brought to life by narrator Brittany Pressley.… Pressley's performance brings the two women's suppressed rage to the surface.… Using just the right amount of a Southern accent, Pressley helps listeners picture the small Texas town and the cast of characters.”AudioFile Magazine

The Bluebonnet Battle

The story is sad in parts. I felt the mothers grief and sadness. It has lighter moments. I agree that in real life people do awful things and do not suffer because of it. I liked the characters and hated to say goodbye. I enjoy Brittany Presley’s voice.

The Bluebonnet Battle

Just the perfect small town story for summer. Every small town knows what to do when there is a tragedy, bring food, and this small town has Liddy who has organized the gatherings for years. Comfort food is the key. That is until Mathilda blows back into town with her ideas and tries to take over. She is spoiling for a fight and vows to take Liddy down by any means. Her son, Nick, comes with her to take over his uncle's business at his request and he and Liddy's niece, Amelia, meet and the sparks are all it takes for them to try to keep their meetings secret. This story was great. Add in all the mentions of good food and the snarkiness and the laugh out loud moments and I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. You know this was really Texas when the meeting place with the church and the preacher meets you at the door and makes you leave your purse for fear of what is inside it because there will be no blood shed at that meeting. Love it!

Just Like Home

Great story that will bring back memories for anyone that’s lived in a small town. All small towns suffer from gossip, hurt feelings, misunderstandings, etc. This book was a fun listen as two families battled back and forth.

Disappointing

The storyline lacked originality and humor.
I've read and listened to many books by this author and have enjoyed them. This is the first time I couldn't finish one of her books. Very disappointed.

Just disappointed

The story line of a women hating and happy that another women's son died didn't really make for a great story line . Didn't really make much sense .

5 star for a cute romance novel

Enjoyable Carolyn Brown as always and the best narrator Brittney Presley. Good down home people with quirky dynamics. The villainess is hateful!

Exciting and Enjoyable

I loved this story and the lives of the Southern Belle’s! Brittany Pressley does a fantastic job on the voices of all the different characters😁 And Carolyn Brown does it again! Looking forward to her next audio book!
