Story
Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery. Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken.

Publisher's Summary
Cameron Diaz shares her formula for becoming happier, healthier, and stronger in this positive, essential guide that is grounded in science and inspired by personal experience.
Throughout her career, Cameron Diaz has been a role model for millions of women. By her own candid admission, though, this fit, glamorous, but down-to-earth star was not always health-conscious. Learning about the inseparable link between nutrition and the body was just one of the life-changing lessons that has fed Cameron's hunger to educate herself about the best ways to feed, move, and care for her body. In The Body Book, she shares what she has learned and continues to discover about nutrition, exercise, and the mind/body connection.
Grounded in science and informed by real life, The Body Book offers a comprehensive overview of the human body and mind, from the cellular level up. From demystifying and debunking the hype around food groups to explaining the value of vitamins and minerals, listeners will discover why it's so important to embrace the instinct of hunger and to satisfy it with whole, nutrient-dense foods. Cameron also explains the essential role of movement, the importance of muscle and bone strength and why we need to sweat a little every day.
The Body Bookdoes not set goals to reach in seven days or thirty days or a year. It offers a holistic, long-term approach to making consistent choices and reaching the ultimate goal: A long, strong, happy, healthy life.

Enlightening and inspiring!
Where does The Body Book rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of few informational books that I've ever actually enjoyed rather than endured!
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Body Book?
I most enjoyed the chapter on movement. It was and fun to consider getting more joy from my body by just moving more. And it was informative to gain an understanding of the ways in which movement will improve my body and, therefore, the quality of life I have while living in it.
Which character – as performed by Cameron Diaz and Sandy Rustin – was your favorite?
I preferred hearing the reading by Cameron. Sandy was great. But it was a bit odd for her to read most of the book rather than Cameron. Even more so that she read in a voice and style that mimicked Cameron!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book made me laugh sometimes (e.g. the discussion of "poop" and "pee", a serious discussion of the body's process of eliminating waste that was still light)! I also found myself a bit teary-eyed as the book moved me to hopeful consideration of the many possibilities available for me to care for and enjoy my healthy body in this lifetime even if I have not been perfect to date.
Any additional comments?
I am so glad that I chose this book. Of course there is lots of information out there about what to do (drink more water, exercise more, etc.) but very little that really explains why. I've never heard anyone explain so clearly what happens, at a molecular level, to the fuel we put (or don't) into our bodies and what happens when we choose movement (or don't).
The specific information and light spirit of the book give me a joyful motivation to take care of my body in new ways. One by one, I have already started making changes. Rather than feeling deprived, I feel excited to make more!

Even better than I expected!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely! This is not a diet book or a work out book. Instead it explains how the female body works, and how to take care of yourself - no matter what shape you are in. I will recommend this to those who are at their ideal fitness level as well as those who need motivation to lose weight. It motivated me to move more and be more aware of what kind of food I was putting into my body. I feel better already! It's truly a wonderful way to educate yourself on being strong, fit and happy.
What did you like best about this story?
Well researched! So much amazing information - and it was written (spoken) in a way that was fun to listen to. There was a lot of scientific stuff as well, and she even made that sound fun! Not an easy feat.
What about Cameron Diaz and Sandy Rustin ’s performance did you like?
The information was articulated clearly and in a fun, easy to understand manner. Like a friend was chatting to you. Just loved it! I felt so happy listening to this book, it really made me feel empowered.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
That we should all educate ourselves on how to be OUR best. We should not be defined by anyone else's standards, but be as strong and fit as we can, for ourselves.
Any additional comments?
This will be an audio book that I will go back and listen to. I may also get the book so I can highlight certain things. It really is *that* good!

Better than I expected!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would definitely recommend this audiobook to a friend. I initially put this book on my wish list for a while and let it sit there because I wasn't sure if it would really have any information that would be new or useful to me. I consider myself to be a pretty decently educated 25 year-old and was concerned this book was more geared towards a teenagers level of knowledge. I was definitely wrong. Sure there was some information I knew, but most of the book was going pretty in depth on topics such as on the mechanics of the exact process your body goes through to digest food, specific macro and micro-nutrients, exactly how your muscles move, etc. All stuff that I had a basic level of understanding of, but didn't know much about the specifics of the process. It was really interesting and I feel like I learned quite a bit. This is the first audiobook I've purchased that I will probably listen to again just to soak in even more of the information!
What about Cameron Diaz and Sandy Rustin ’s performance did you like?
I enjoyed that the intro was read by Cameron Diaz. I am pretty sure Sandy Rustin was picked to be the professional narrator because her voice sounds a bit like Cameron's. It was actually to the point where when Cameron came back in at the end to read the conclusion, I thought she didn't sound enough like herself. Overall, I really enjoyed Sandy as a narrator and would seek out other books read by her.
Any additional comments?
The book has three main sections: Nutrition, Exercise, and the Mind/Body Connection. I found the first two sections to be the most interesting and useful. The Mind/Body section was the shortest, which was perfectly fine because it was kind of fluffy. One good take away I got from that section though was the question, "What matters more to me?" As in, what matters more to me...the instant gratification I'll get from that slice of pizza or taking care of my body and putting healthy fuel into it?

Basic information
Any additional comments?
Sandy did such an amazing job at narrating this book, at times she sounded almost identical to Cameron which really made the book for me. I understand that this is information that Cameron finds that every women should know but information in this book is pretty basic. If you've read other health related books or articles, I would not recommend this to you if you are looking for new information.

So much good information!
I listened to this book on a road trip, driving through California. So my only distraction was the beautiful scenery, but it was a great setting to be learning so much about our amazing bodies! There was so much information that I knew I wouldn't be able to retain it all, so I do plan to listen to it again, The section on food was the most amazing. It gave such simple explanations about how food is affecting us, and how to eat cleaner and healthier. That's the part that I really want to hear again. I wasn't able to take notes while driving, but I will want to take notes when I listen again. I want to try some of her recipes, and suggestions. My only disappointment with the book, which I did know going in, was that Cameron doesn't read the whole book. She just reads the introduction. That's why I gave it 4 stars for performance. The reader does a good job, but when I buy a celebrity's book, I like to hear it in their voice. That's the best part of getting a famous person's book on Audible! But I loved this book, it inspired me to want to do better, eat better, sleep better, be better.

Something i would recommend to a selective few.
What did you love best about The Body Book?
I love the different approach she took on eating healthy. Society tells us to eat healthy and exersice regularly simply to loose weight (and of course that's exactly what you need to do) But Carmen Diaz broke it down and explained the "WHY" you should do certain things versus what you are use to doing. She opens your mind to help you to live a healthier lifestyle and gives you an understanding of the benifits from doing so. She is not talking about "loosing weight" or "gaining weight" because it is NOT a diet book or a meal plan book and it's definitely not an exercise book. It is simply a book about your body for those women who are trying to live a healthier lifestyle (not necessarily a skinny lifestyle).
What did you like best about this story?
It targets ALL WOMEN. This book is ideal for the typical "i need to loose weight" women, but it especially targets the " I'm too skinny, and i'm tired of people pointing that out" women too. It's basically a book on learning how to be healthy and how to love and care for the body you were born with. Great motivational book!
What about Cameron Diaz and Sandy Rustin ’s performance did you like?
i love that Carmen Diaz gave a personal realistic approach to this book. She fills you with so much information in a Down to earth way that grabs your attention. I especially love to be able to hear her voice in the beginning to the audio, she really does personalize the book and gives you a warm feeling that makes you believe every word she says. Like i said, it's very motivational! i already got 2 other people on it! :) Thanx girl!

I really enjoyed this book and plan to listen to it in the future when I feel lost or out of touch when it comes to my body. I loved the passion behind the basics of how to embrace our bodies. Honestly, I wish every kid had to listen to this or read this in health class from 8th-12th grade once a year. I would love to see this integrated in schools. I felt my mind was super scattered and overwhelmed with all of the conflicting diets and exercise programs I had been researching over the years... then this book just simplified things for me and brought me back to basics and cut the bullshit for me. it was a relief I very much needed... Thanks Cameron :)
