Publisher's Summary

Author's note read by the author.

New York Times bestselling author Katherine Center's The Bodyguard is unabashedly romantic, laugh-out-loud funny, and the perfect summer story.

She’s got his back.
Hannah Brooks looks more like a kindergarten teacher than somebody who could kill you with a wine bottle opener. Or a ballpoint pen. Or a dinner napkin. But the truth is, she’s an Executive Protection Agent (aka "bodyguard"), and she just got hired to protect superstar actor Jack Stapleton from his middle-aged, corgi-breeding stalker.

He’s got her heart.
Jack Stapleton’s a household name—captured by paparazzi on beaches the world over, famous for, among other things, rising out of the waves in all manner of clingy board shorts and glistening like a Roman deity. But a few years back, in the wake of a family tragedy, he dropped from the public eye and went off the grid.

They’ve got a secret.
When Jack’s mom gets sick, he comes home to the family’s Texas ranch to help out. Only one catch: He doesn’t want his family to know about his stalker. Or the bodyguard thing. And so Hannah—against her will and her better judgment—finds herself pretending to be Jack’s girlfriend as a cover. Even though her ex, like a jerk, says no one will believe it.

What could possibly go wrong???
Hannah hardly believes it, herself. But the more time she spends with Jack, the more real it all starts to seem. And there lies the heartbreak. Because it’s easy for Hannah to protect Jack. But protecting her own, long-neglected heart? That’s the hardest thing she’s ever done.

More Praise for The Bodyguard:

"Patti Murin gives a terrific performance of this heartwarming contemporary romance." -AudioFile Magazine

“Great rollicking fun! Prepare to laugh and swoon and grin your pants off.”—Helen Hoang, New York Times bestselling author of The Heart Principle

“My perfect 10 of a book. As funny and sweet as all the very best nineties rom-coms, but with Center’s signature heart-tugging depth. I wish I could erase it from my mind just to read it again for the first time. A shot of pure joy.”—Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Book Lovers

"The Bodyguard is absolutely, unequivocally delightful!"—Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wish You Were Here

Thank you Katherine Center!!

Thank you, Katherine for another delightful uplifting story. I consumed this book within the first day, and plan to begin it again. Katherine has a way of making me laugh out loud, sitting in a room by myself. Her life lessons are excellent and motivating. I’m never disappointed!! Patti Murin is a new narrator for me, she did an excellent job, as well.

I wanted to like this…

The main character as a secret agent is unbelievable. The main character as a romantic leading lady is even more unbelievable. Her snarky, jealous, and petty comments toward all those who had harmed her and her defensive comebacks toward the leading man (who is believable and endearing) make her unlikeable. At some point I felt like my tolerance for her was over. She didn’t deserve such a nice leading man!

Pure gold - Down to earth, uplifting, fun!

I am so glad to find this author and this book. In today’s world it’s hard to find positive, clean, funny, uplifting entertainment. It has quite a bit of hard times in the story but it’s balanced with intelligent, very interesting, growth through it, with humor in all it’s healing aspects.
Katherine Center hit it out of the park. Looking forward to reading more of her work.
Wish this would be made into a movie or series and keep just as it is.
Thank you Katherine Center.
Also great narration of the audiobook by Patti Murin. Will look for more of her work too.

Just a little happy story with low drama

Look, it’s predictable and never gets stressful in the drama department but I loved it.
Sometimes you just want to hear a love story about 2 imperfect, but perfect for each other people.
This feels very set it and forget it for doing a long drive, and you might even get some feels along the way.

A Disappointment

Maybe I would have liked this book more if the narrator had sounded younger ; Or if I felt the ‘chemistry’ brewing between The main characters but I felt nothing!
I loved Things You Save In A Fire but this book fizzled for me.

Cute and worthy of a listen!

This was a very cute story that mostly kept my attention until the end. My only issue was the chemistry was a little stale between the two main characters and I think it was because Hannah was hard to relate to and didn't have much personality. I loved Jack and his family. This author is new to me, I will definitely check out her other books. Narration was wonderful. 💙💙

I laughed, I cried. I enjoyed every minute.

Hannah Brooks was the protagonist I needed. Whip smart, vulnerably honest, and a total bad ass. But then, aren’t all of Katherine Center’s heroines great?

Patti Murin is one of my favorite narrators and she knocked this out of the park.

What I love about Center’s books is their lack of corniness despite being live stories. They can be goofy. They can build tension. But somehow she does all of this and creates a swoony leading man without any romance corndoggery. Brava, Ms. Center.

Definitely worth a listen. Definitely worth spending a credit. Definitely one I will listen to again.

A hopeful hug of a book

I love the tone, plots and characters that Katherine Center brings and The Bodyguard was such a warm, fun read. I enjoyed the switcheroo of female bodyguard, Jack's laughter and the family that the heroine so needed. Fab narration.

easy listening

took a while to get into, then all of a sudden it developed into a great little story. Easy listening, just enough twist to keep it interesting. When you want a light happy book this is a good one.

Intriguing, but ultimately average

There were some scenes where the dialogue was very drawn out. Almost as if the author was finally penning all the things she wish she’d said to a bad boyfriend and bestie from the past.
Definitely a book to escape into and not think so much about.
