Publisher's Summary

If you are eager for more of number-one New York Times best-selling author Gregg Olsen's harrowing and heartrending prose, dig into this thrilling short story that will chill you to the bone....

They call it the Bone Box. A collection of old cases, solved and unsolved, that continue to haunt forensic pathologist Birdy Waterman. None is more disturbing than the first. After two decades, Birdy still remembers the screaming. The blood on the boy's hands. The body of a girl, butchered in the woods.

Birdy's testimony helped put her own cousin behind bars. It was a sacrifice for what she thought was right - but now, 20 years later, she wants to reopen the box. Reexamine the evidence. And rekindle her fears that a killer walked free - and is closer than ever.

Contains mature themes.

narrator is fantastic!

The story was interesting though short, and left me wanting more from the characters and the narrator. Karen Peakes did a phenomenal job speaking the parts of the native characters. Being married to a Native American man and speaking with his family, I appreciate the way with which she captured the dialect.

Great short story

I don’t typically listen to short stories but this was written very well.

I enjoyed the twists and turns and didn’t figure out the ending beforehand.

Karen Peakes did a FABULOUS narration.

Short but great

For a very short story it was excellent. It kept my interest throughout, the narrative performance was great. I've always like Gregg Olsen book's very gifted writer. This by far the shortest one written. Very interesting on what the bone box included never thought it would be so interesting.

Interesting

Intriguing introduction to Dr. Waterman, forensic pathologist in the state of Washington, who is tasked with investigating the possibly wrongful murder conviction of her cousin 20 years earlier. A few interesting leads and Dr. Waterman quickly moves to help her cousin's case. Without giving anything away, I finished this good story feeling sad and vindicated and a bit angry. Might check into book one of the Waterman and Stark series. Karen Peakes was competent as narrator. I probably will read rather than listen to book one.

If you like True Crime podcasts you’ll like this book

I thought it was a fun and easy listen, the story kept me engaged. Not one of those books that I would listen to over and over again, but good to hear once.

The Injustice!

This short book was full of pathos. I like Native American settings/characters, especially when the theme of injustice is part of the plot. This one will break your heart.

Enjoyable

Murder mystery that entertained. This could be a young adult murder mystery. Although not my favorite genre this hit all the high points with unexpected twists at the end.
