I know her secret….

Cat is in so much trouble. She did something bad, and I saw.

I’ll keep her secret...for a price.

Poor, sweet, timid Cat should never have come to Kingmakers. It’s a place for monsters and killers. People like me.

She wandered into the lion’s den and now she’s mine.

Mine to play with. Mine to torment. Mine to break....

The Lark Notes:

My very first inspiration for Kingmakers was Dean Yenin. I wanted to write a true antihero who would need to undergo a very serious change in his character to complete his redemption arc. Dean will make you feel all the things, sometimes against your will. You’ll love him and hate him and love him again, and never get him out of your head.—Sophie

The Bully is a stand-alone novel. It's the third installment in the epic dark mafia Kingmakers series—a bully romance, full of dark, twisted enemies-to-lovers conflict. Listener beware, this one is intense.

Dean🤤

Being the third book in the Kingmakers series I was surprised that the storyline got even more interesting! This is my favorite one so far! After reading the first two books I was surprised that Dean become my favorite male so far! The narrators did an amazing job… Dean‘s voice was especially a pleasure. I’m excited to start The Spy :) Thank you Sophie!

Oh Dean!!!!!

The Bully, Book 3 in the Kingmakers Series by Sophie Lark brought all the steam and total redemption for Dean!!

This story focused on Cat and Dean. It’s my favorite book of the series so far!! The story was solid, full of depth and intrigue. The characters were interesting and memorable. Dean totally redeemed himself from his actions in the first book.

This book has multi narration from Antonio Turner, Gregory Salinas and Lilly Drake. They all did a fabulous job. Highly recommend listening to this one!!!

A perfect book!

The Bully is the third book in Sophie Lark’s Kingmakers series and is a spin-off/2nd gen series from the couples of Brutal Birthright. Kingmakers Academy is a private college for children of mafia families from around the globe. It’s situated on an isolated island in the Adriatic Sea and once there the students are categorized into 4 houses so to speak: heirs, accountants, spies, and enforcers.

Boy oh boy does Dean get his book! After seeing the setup of Dean’s character in the first 2 books in this series, you’ll definitely come into this book with some feelings about him. And not all are good things, he’s made some choices, he’s made some mistakes. 😅 But also I saw where Dean came from even back in book 1, this is a character who is used to people leaving him (in fact he knows that everybody leaves him), he doesn’t have any one good/a role model in his life, he’s been raised by a father who spews hate and is set on revenge, and Dean just doesn’t believe anyone could ever love him. So seeing Dean’s “deal” with Cat in the previous book, I was so ready for this journey!

“Because I just discovered something very interesting about my timid little kitten. She has a hunger inside her. And when she’s hungry, she’ll do anything to eat.”

Cat is Dean’s to use as he pleases when the story starts (because of reasons set up in the previous book) and wow are these 2 such a perfect pair! I loved seeing Cat’s evolution and character growth in these books, I loved how Dean was so intrigued with her and wanted to just peel back all her layers to get to the “real” Cat. Seeing Dean with Professor Snow, omg so fun and I see now why there is a specific reading order for this author’s books! Snow teaching the boxing class and really becoming a true mentor and someone there for Dean was so special to see. I liked seeing Dean push Cat, never too far, but far enough to try to prove to her she just as much a mafioso as the rest of them and belongs at Kingmakers. Their time in the bell tower, the collar, the BDSM, the healing, the praise. 🔥

I am still very intrigued and into this series all being told by 3 POVs, it definitely keeps my attention. I’m very intrigued by The Spy’s POV in this book and ready to see how things unfold in the next book! Random moments/thoughts: when Dean thinks he can take Snow on the first day of boxing class 😅, “I’ll burn the whole world down for you”, slapping turned to “good girl” 🔥!

The Perfect Redemption Arc!

I am a sucker for a good antihero and Dean is such a nuanced multidimensional character with a tragic back story and I couldn’t help but root for him. I know we are supposed to dislike Dean after what goes down in The Heir but he captured my heart right away. You can just tell that under all that attitude and anger is a lost boy just lashing out and hoping that someday someone will accept and love him.

And that person is Cat. She’s Zoe’s meek, sheltered little sister. Cat may be introverted and shy but we find out she isn’t weak and she isn’t helpless. This cat has some serious claws. While Dean is softening his edges, Cat is becoming harder, tougher and more of a BA every day. Dean knows what Cat did for her sister in the last book and he’s using that to make Cat squirm. He finds out that not only does he enjoy unsettling her but he always enjoys the power he has over her as well. While Cat struggles with this power imbalance at first she finds herself drawn to Dean and this effect he has on her and soon what started as blackmail turns into something more. Dean has never had a stable relationship, has never felt love and is absolutely terrified to lose Cat like he has lost anyone else he has tried to love. Cat has always been sheltered. She’s never had a chance to fall in love and she’s insecure about her ability to even be loved. Can they move past their shaky arrangement into something more and will they be able to accept what’s right in front of them?

The narrators were perfect for Cat and Dean. Dean’s growly commanding tone in the tower was downright sinful. Cat’s narrator perfectly captured Cat’s journey from timid scared kitten to fierce jungle cat. This one will definitely be one that gets many a relisten!

Good bit I felt a little let down.

This is one emotional ride! I really felt like I was on a roller coaster of emotions. In here it seems like the intrigue and plots took a backseat to Dean an Cat’s sexual and mental relationship. Dean is a guy I loved to hate but I always thought there was something more than bitterness and evil intent to him. This story proves me right. Although most of the flux if my emotions were caused by him.

While this is good and it does entertain a newish character I was really hoping for more from Dean’s story. It is a darker enemies to lovers story. I am looking forward to the next one just to see what is going on after the epilogue.

I did listen to it on audio. Antonio Turner, Lily Drake and Gregory Salinas did a wonderful job narrating this complex story.

Book 3 - Kingmakers

This is book 3 in Lark's Kingmakers series and is just as captivating, dark and delicious as the previous reads / listens. Adored the trio narration that just welcomed me into these characters lives like I was walking these school grounds with them. Our main characters in this book are Cat and Dean. I have to say I'm a bit confused as to Cat's family and what's expected of her as wondering about Dean and his status at Kingmakers that was illuded to but not finalized so I'm curious there too. Also - that ending - what the what?!?
I loved the character growth that both Cat and Dean had in this read and the mentorship Dean had that helped with that growth. Just a beautiful, well written coming of age realization done in a way that only a mafia/bratva school could do. Oh how the mighty fall. But ugh so many secrets in the school I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation to find out what will happen next and if we'll get any more answers to the secrets lurking within the school.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

Bully Mafia Romance

The Bully by Sophie Lark is a bully mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Antonio Turner, Gregory Salinas, and Lilly Drake. This is the third book in the Kingmakers series.

I absolutely love Sophie's books! I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Dean and Cat. I really enjoyed getting Dean, Cat, and The Spy's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

Antonio, Gregory, and Lily did a great job on the narration. They all really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, bully romances, mafia romances, enemies-to-lovers romances, academy romances, or romantic suspense.

I loved it!

This is the third book in the Kingmakers Series. This is a second generation story linked with the Heavy Crown (Sebastian and Yelena) in the amazing Brutal Birthright series. Dean and Cat’s story is intense, complex and enthralling. Cat is such a great character, strong, smart, and caring. I loved her in The Rebel, and I was impatient to listen to her story. Dean is such an enigmatic and amazing character. The world building is fascinating. I loved to see again the characters from the first books. I liked the mystery, the secrets, the tension, the suspense, and the twists and turns. Antonio Turner, Gregory Salinas, and Lilly Drake did an outstanding job with the narration. Looking forward to listening to The Spy, the next book in this excellent series. If you like Bully Romance and Romantic Suspense, this series is for you. I HIGHLY recommend it. #TheFlock

Beautiful story

Book 3 of the Kingmakers story had been building since we first got Dean's POV in The Heir when he was the anatgonist between Anna and his personal rival, his cousin Leo Gallo. His estranged Aunt Yelena's son. I guess given how much I absolutely LOVED Heavy Crown, and the slow build up, I was expecting there to be more drama around the Kat Romero and Dean relationship... that being said, it was HOT.

No one suspected that sweet little sister Kat Romero was responsible for luring Rocco Prince to his death last year, no one except Dean Yenin who saw her returning to the medical room after her altercation with Rocco. He is the only one who could tell the Chancellor that she lied about her alibi, and he's using it to blackmail her into becoming his personal slave, enjoying the control he has over the life he has so literally in his hands. The faculty would kill her if they found out. Eventually what started under duress is now something they both crave, and they begin dating for real. Dean does give the Draco Malfoy vibes without the privilege and wands. I suppose Dean's redemption arc was much simpler now that his father is no longer an influence to stop him from reaching out to his aunt, and building ties with cousin Leo. I think I'd hoped for more of the drama we saw in The Heir but this was a good healing arc for Dean, just hope Lola gets her's in the next book.

Narration was brilliant.

Fantastic series

This series is action packed and thrilling. Sophie writes such detailed stories. Each of these can be standalone but they’re so much better in sequence. You’re going to want to hear them all!

The start of the school year is shocking for Cat but if she wants her secret kept she will need to do anything Dean wants her to. And he has her do so much as if to see if he can break her spirit. But Cat is stronger than even maybe she knew. Both of these two find so much more in each other than they thought when Dean’s demands lead them to getting his sexual demands met by the innocent Cat. What ends up happening is they grow a bond keeping her secret and finding new experiences with one another. But emotions are high and in schools there are always going to be petty jealous people who will try breaking another’s spirit. Cat has a mean girl who has it out for her and it goes on throughout the story.

Cat is becoming better at sleuthing and finding things out. Yet sometimes things are better left buried, or so Dean thinks when she tells him some things about his family. But Dean was so not ready for it and lashes out. Thankfully he has someone to go to, to work out his feelings with, in the new defence teacher. A retired professional boxer Snow.

There’s other things that are happening in the background with one of the students and the librarian and I’m sure we are going to find out more in the next book.

This world that Sophie has created is full of twists and turns and suspense. With elements of bully romance that I have come to love. Can’t wait for more from this author.

Lilly has us wanting to help Cat, at times giving her strength to deal with her bullies and times to hug her for all she keeps hidden and needs to keep there. She shows us Cat’s compassion as she tries to help other’s and her strength when dealing with things head on.

Gregory Salinas has the voice that was made for Dean. Showcasing his smooth don’t give a damn attitude as well as hidden caring for Cat.

The times Antonio popped as the spy has me needing to hear more about what he plans to do and to whom?

Captivating Redemption

The Bully, the third book in the Kingmakers series, met my highest expectation. After all, it's Dean Yenin's story. I'm in awe of Sophie Lark and how she managed to redeem such an antagonistic and controversial character like Dean. She did a phenomenal job making him both appealing and relatable. After reading the story, I got to say that he's got that something-something we ladies like so much. I couldn't get enough of him. Dean and Cat Romero's story was simply riveting. Dean has a dark, disciplined, controlling, and dominating persona, making him irresistible. Cat is a beautiful, unassuming, and shy girl in servitude to Dean.

Aside from the drama, excitement, and scorching hot steam, the story is unpredictable and filled with emotional ups and downs. The physical chemistry was astonishingly powerful, fueled by passion and hate. The relationship started as a Dom/Sub agreement, developing into so much more. Dean and Cat transformed, becoming perfect for one another. Dean influenced and encouraged Cat to come out of her shell, becoming a stronger and more confident version of herself. Cat smoothed out the sharp edges of emotional discontent and paved the way to his redemption. Though Dean remains true to who he has always been. I generously enjoyed getting to know Dean better. It is understandable why he is the way he is, and it's all due to the lack of a positive role model in his life.

Superb narration by Antonio Turner, Gregory Salinas, and Lilly Drake. They each flawlessly captured the nuances of the characters' personalities and complicated emotions. They breathe life into this complex storyline making it even more engaging. The Bully is a must-listen, a dark journey that I highly recommend.

Cat & Dean - Great Listen!

The Bully is Book 3 in the Kingmakers Series

Although this book is a standalone - I would not recommend reading it without having read the first two books. There is so much introduction of Dean and Cat as side characters with really important background information. Having an understanding of their relationship and how Kingmakers has worked only helps provide a more enjoyable read and readers to really appreciate the character growth and redemption on a deeper level.

Cat and Dean were both intriguing characters in the previous book and although they were side characters they really played such a huge role in my opinion. Cat is fierce and a very strong heroine with secrets and one who makes choices to protect those she loves. I wasn't so sure about how I would feel about Dean or what to really expect from him but I was shocked and I so enjoyed his character and all the build-up and redemption! Cat and Dean are opposites who shouldn't work but they had some amazing chemistry and brought out the best in each other. This story flowed perfectly and gives a little more steam than the previous books. A great addition to the Kingmakers, a series that has been very entertaining.

Narrated by Antonio Turner, Gregory Salinas, and Lilly Drake - I really enjoyed all the narrators and their wonderful voices. They could really bring out the emotions in the characters, drawing me into the story.

It gets better

This is the third book of the series and it follows Dean & Cat. When Dean finds out Cats secret he uses it to blackmail her and make her bend to his will . At the start Dean was a complete ass but Cat softened him and he’s quite likeable now.

Dean and Cat are combustible!

What I love about this series is how smartly written they are. The characters are richly drawn and complex. Nothing is as it seems, and the back stories add texture and understanding as the story unfolds.

The costs of wrong-doing against a fellow student is the Rule of Recompense. It is truly eye for an eye, with no exceptions. Cat’s secret has put her on Dean’s radar. While he initially loves lording over her, her kind nature offers him a different perspective of his world. When his boxing coach, Snow, takes him under his wing, Dean begins to really take stock of himself as he learns to channel his anger in the ring. Dean learns that being the strongest and most threatening student on the campus has shut him off from people, and he begins to thaw with Cat.

Cat is artistic and kind, so Kingmakers doesn’t seem like a natural fit at first. She begins to draw on some of her toughest reserves as she learns there is so much more to her then meets the eye. She’s one of my favorite characters of this series, especially because Sophie Lark is so adept at crafting her growth and transformation.

This story is such a natural arc in this wonderful series. The narration is wonderful and helps bring this story to life. I highly recommend this series, but I really loved this book in particular.
