Publisher's Summary
The Camel Club by best-selling sensation David Baldacci is the exciting first instalment of a breathtaking series.
The man known as Oliver Stone has no official past. He spends most days camped opposite the White House, hoping to expose corruption wherever he finds it. But the stakes are raised when he and his friends, a group of conspiracy theorist misfits known as The Camel Club, accidentally witness the murder of an intelligence analyst. Especially when the authorities are seemingly happy to write it off as a suicide.
For Secret Service agent Alex Ford, monitoring the 'investigation', the suicide verdict doesn't ring true. As punishment for sticking his nose where it doesn't belong, he is reassigned to bodyguard duties. His abilities are tested to the limit when he is sent to protect the President during a visit to his hometown, where a terrorist cell has spent months plotting an event that will shake the world.
Meanwhile, America's powerful intelligence chief Carter Gray is unnerved when he glimpses the face of an old acquaintance in Arlington Cemetery - but it is the face of a man supposedly long dead....
And as The Camel Club is poised to expose a conspiracy that reaches into the heart of Washington's highly secretive corridors of power, Alex Ford finds out that his worst nightmare is about to happen....
The Camel Club is followed by The Collectors, Stone Cold, Divine Justice and Hell's Corner.

Superb story; small hiccups.
I believe I've heard the majority of David Baldacci's novels by now. At least the ones available through Audible.
I've found them all very entertaining and most of them engrossing. I have only one small niggle and that is one to do with the 'performance' of the majority of the Readers.
Without exception the American pronunciation of certain English words have me shouting at the speakers..
Shone, notched and the like are typical. It's not a big complaint or even an important one to the majority of listeners but my History in English Grammar, Literature and Pronunciation makes me, perhaps, a little picky.
Despite this little niggle I can thoroughly recommend all of David's books. The Series in particular never fail entertain.

Felt sorry for narrator
This book felt wooden and forced. It washed not the narrator's fault. Jonathan Davis did a decent job. It was just the two dimensionality of the tale and characters. There really was no feelings of life. And to make sure the reader gets the point, exposition is hammered home.

slow start. eplosive finish
The camel club was a new read for me, i nearly gave up in the first few hours as the progress was very slow. once the story got going it was back to Baldacci normal pace and I really enjoyed the 2nd half. i will give another Camel club book a go. if you read this make sure you see it through to the end. it is worth it.

VERY CONVILOUTED
Not my type of thriller. I I really enjoy Baldaccis other books where there is a central Character ; 1 Puller series ,2 Decker & 3 Robie with these you get a good back story and develop empathy with each and the plots twist and turn and books are real page burners.. This conspiracy theory nonsence was tedious and the Camel club just did not. inspire me to. delve further into their characters. e I stoped reading at 20% thankfullyAudible do credit refunds.
ill try his new female detective and take it from there !!

The Camel Club
Excellent thriller as always with Baldacci. I knocked one star off story as it seemed to lose it’s way towards the end with ‘enemies’ double crossing each other and widely differing motives. Nevertheless, a timely reflection on just how ‘near the edge’ we are with nuclear conflict and how the deterrent effect can work the other way.

Hogwash
I resent having spent £7.99 on this far fetched nonsense. Also there were too many lectures about Middle East affairs and religion, I want escapism but not fantasy. 'What a load of rubbish' I kept muttering to myself. Baldacci has lost the plot with this one. The narrator did a good job which is why I persevered, if I'd had the paper back I'd have skipped loads for sure.

didn't enjoy this one
I generally enjoy Baldacci books but not this one. it was too complex. I really pushed myself to finish it but wished I hadn't. The end actually angered me as it was so unbelievable and made it feel even more of a waste of time. I can handle a book that isn't great but not when you put all the time in and the ending is farcical. the narrator is very good to listen to which was the only saving grace

Film and long winded
I found this not to be worth the effort... predictable.. as far as I got ... and unnecessarily verbose.

Couldn’t finish it
Starts off well but goes slowly downhill .. got to about 2/3 and gave up. Couldn’t get interested in the plot. The characters became stranger as the story continues. Too many good books to go on with.
