Publisher's Summary

When a sink hole opens up near the Australian outback town of Pintalba, it uncovers a pristine cave system. Sam joins an expedition to explore the subterranean passages as paramedic support, hoping to remain unneeded at base camp. But, when one of the cavers is injured, he must overcome paralyzing claustrophobia to dive pitch-black waters and squeeze through the bowels of the earth.

Soon he will find there are fates worse than being buried alive, for in the abandoned mines and caves beneath Pintalba, there are ravenous teeth in the dark.

As a savage predator targets the group with hideous ferocity, Sam and his friends must fight for their lives if they are ever to see the sun again.

The Descent + Aliens + Underwater

Dang this was awesome. It’s got some good twists and really engaging characters. The atmosphere as well as the creatures are terrifyingly intriguing.

Overall entertaining read

It was a great story, entertaining and gripping. plenty of character development but some characters stories felt rushed in the end. Repetitive use of descriptive words for certain things throughout. Overall I quite enjoyed this book.

Fun and short

Liked the pace and story telling rhythm. Reader was great too, adjusting slightly for different characters.

What is scarier caving or diving? how bout both

It was a nice quick read. The characters fates started becoming formulaic towards the end but it was plenty spooky. There was A LOT of gore if that's your thing.

Narration was pretty nice.

I had so much anxiety listening to this

This book gave me anxiety to the nth degree. I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing; the author did an amazing job. I loathe tight spaces. I hate diving, I hate being underground and I'm not a fan of knowing that there's something higher on the food chain than me. This book had the trifecta. The narrator left a bit to be desired (the women honestly sounded like Korg from the Marvel movies to me), but I am willing to look past that because the story made up for it. I'd love to see more from this author in the future. Side note...don't eat while listening to this.

Enjoyable story - flat narration

I think this story would have been far more enjoyable if the narration hadn't been so flat. It was impossible to tell any character from another and absolutely no way to tell if the character was male or female. I think this is a book you should read rather than listen to.

Overall a time burner

It was not a flop, left a lot of unanswered questions. Not very creative, could have been with more decisive answers about where these things came from.

Performance was very good.

Good B movie feel

Enjoyed this one. Pulpy and grindhousey in the ways I wanted it to be, with a few moments that really dialled up the terror.

Cool monster design, just enough mystery to make me stick around while the body count rose.

Pretty dull unfortunately

The book suffers from a severe lack of tension. We are pretty much told everything about the creature and it's motives from the very beginning.
There's very little left to speculate on and nothing really comes as a surprise.
It would have been much better if some things were left to the imagination or were only implied.
Not bad if you're looking for an unsurprising gore-creature fest.

Sorry, not for me.

Wasn’t for me unfortunately. The narrator didn’t do it for me and the characters were irritating to me. I stuck it out for several hours but only got about half way through .

Cavern

Definitely worth a listen, a good story that flows well and well narrated. A simple but well written story, much better than a lot of writers who overreach.
