For years, Trent Turner has worked in the shadows using his vigilance and determination to covertly defend his country. His anonymous days dispatching of the world's dark realities are interrupted when the unthinkable happens and sends him on a path that could destroy him. Great plot sometime story difficult to follow

This book was an excellent story. The plot was fantastic. The characters were very well done. The narrator was excellent for the story. My only complaint with this is that in some areas like the chapters were a little out of place or not as complete as they could've been. Still overall a very good read.I do look forward to the next book in the series. I believe that the offer will grow in his abilities as a writer. He even says at the end he has a long ways to go but he is correct he's got a book that he can be proud of.

Good book for a first from the author

The author did a good job on this book especially being his first. It could have used a little more action but overall it was a great listen. I look forward to his next book.

Good book a lot going on.

I started this book and got about 5 hrs into it and had to start over. I almost did not start over and finish it. I am glad I started over it was worth it. There is a lot going on in this book and I had some time following it. I think if I would read it it would have been better. The reader was pretty good but what confused me was there was so many players and same voices and 2 different names for some people. I think this would have been a 5 star for me if it had multiple readers like the Pike Logan series. I am going to listen to this one again in the near future and look forward to his next one.

Potential but Too Much

This story reminded me a bit of the Sigma Series by James Rollins. In the Sigma Series the operatives deal with mostly biological threats in this new series with Trent Turner and Island Industries is dealing with technology threats. To create suspense the author uses each chapter to follow a different thread in the story. This technique is used fairly commonly by other authors but seamlessly and aren't the only method to create suspense.. This felt contrived and forced – like it was being used as a recipe for suspense. It also seems the author tossed everything including the kitchen sink into the plot. There are just too many side stories, issues or clichés that it again felt forced. Maybe a better editor? A few general examples that shouldn't spoil anything: a powerful elected official involved with a secret society, blackmail, dysfunctional family, family members in trouble, beautiful talented women who then helps save the day, unknown offspring, protagonist in hot water with employer … just so much tossed into this book, could have been a number of books with the different elements expanded into more of a story. It is just too much. And then there are events that seem to come from no where and are never explained (how did the Russian Assassin find Trent at the gas pump?) I think the series and author have lots of promise, but the author and editor need to slow down not put everything in the first or second novel. The topic of technical espionage has lots of promise and the protagonist is a good hero but the suspense or action are too forced and details missed

Unfortunately terrible

I'd love to support this new author's debut work, but honestly I can't. I found the sorry to be awfully weak. The characters were one-dimensional and uninspiring. I think S. L. Jones is onto a winner with the theme, but there's nothing thrilling or riveting about this book. After reading positive reviews I forced myself to listen through the end, but it didn't really get particularly better.

The narration was clear and high-quality, except it had the personality of an interesting sheet of cardboard; the narrator would be excellent for a different genre, but I think he was an inappropriate choice for this book.
