Publisher's Summary

Powerhouse adult fantasy author R. A. Salvatore and Erika Lewis deliver a sweeping, action-packed, romantic pre-Arthurian tale of the origins of magic (and Merlin), perfect for fans of Falling Kingdoms and Seraphina.

Magic needs a spark.

And Maggie’s powers are especially fickle. With no one to help her learn to control her magic, the life debt that she owes stretches eternally over her head, with no way to repay it.

Until she meets Griffin, the king’s champion, infamous for hunting down the draignochs that plague their kingdom.

Neither has any idea of the destiny that they both carry, or that their meeting will set off a chain of events that will alter every aspect of the life they know - and all of history thereafter.

This epic, romantic tale will enchant listeners and draw them into a thrilling world of star-crossed lovers, magic, destiny, and the paths we choose.

More please.

Can I have 10 more just like this? If I'd read the synopsis I'd probably have skipped the book, it's much better than the synopsis makes it sound. Perfect amount of magic, fantasy creatures, and romance. The last two sentences gave me goosebumps. A great short stand-alone. I'd give the female narration 5/5, male narration 4/5 - had a hard time differentiating the different voices when read by the male narrator.

thoroughly enjoyed!!

really quick story from beginning to end. the two protagonists worked well together and didn't fall into chapters of boring expected tropes and instead plowed through them to the heart of the story.

definitely recommend!!

great story, wierd accent gaps

loved the story, but the accents between the two narrators threw me off the story. the male narrator portrayed them as Scottish for the male and female counterparts well, but the female narrator portrayed some of the same characters woth a more British accent? weird.

Favorite book of the year

This might be the best book i have heard this year. I like the way they have made separate chapters for the to characters it makes it easy to follow who is talking. Really good fantasy book. I would recomend it.

Loved R A. Salvatore!!

Excellent story line. Really hoping this will be a series. Then to pair John York & Aline Stokes as narrators, I really enjoyed them both. I'm no expert with accents, I really enjoyed them! They made Maggie and Griffin come to life!!!

Meh

I just could not get into it.
and the Narrator and the broad Scottish type accent
just didn't do it for me.
I really wanted to like it, but it flattened for me after a few chapter.
