Suspenseful page turner
- By Consumer Outlook on 05-31-21
By: Frank E. Peretti
Publisher's Summary
An epic tale of evil and rescue, betrayal and love, and a terrorist threat unlike anything the human race has ever known.
Ted Dekker’s best-selling and most beloved series - together in one volume.
It's the story of a man named Thomas Hunter, an unlikely hero who finds himself pulled between two worlds. In our reality, he works in a coffee house. In the other, he becomes a battle-scarred general leading a band of followers known as the Circle. Every time he falls asleep in one reality, he wakes in the other. The fate of both worlds now rests on his ability to shift realities through his dreams - and somehow, find a way to change history.
Four novels. Two worlds. One story.
Praise for the Circle series:
“Put simply: it’s a brilliant, dangerous idea. And we need more dangerous ideas.... Dekker’s trilogy is a mythical epic, with a vast, predetermined plot and a scope of staggering proportions.... Black is one of those books that will make you thankful that you know how to read. If you love a good story, and don’t mind suspending a little healthy disbelief, Black will keep you utterly enthralled from beginning to...well, cliffhanger. Red can’t get here fast enough.” (FuseMagazine.net)
“As a producer of movies filled with incredible worlds and heroic characters, I have high standards for the fiction I read. Ted Dekker’s novels deliver big with mind-blowing, plot-twisting page-turners. Fair warning - this trilogy will draw you in at a breakneck pace and never let up. Cancel all plans before you start because you won’t be able to stop once you enter Black.” (Ralph Winter, producer - X-Men, X2: X-Men United, Planet of the Apes, executive producer - StarTrek V: Final Frontier)
“Black has to be the read of the year! A powerful, thought-provoking, edge-of-your-seat thriller of epic proportions that offers great depth and insight into the forces around us.” (Joe Goodman, film producer, Namesake Entertainment)

A fantastic adventure
This is a four book set. As I have seen in other reviews I agree that the first book should be listened to last to but either way it's wonderful.
I read these books years ago and decided to try it on audio. I am very glad that I did. The story is a wonderful take that will keep you wanting more. The narrator does an excellent job of telling the story and making it easy to listen to.
I strongly recommend this book if you have even the slightest interest in it. You will not be disappointed!

Spellbinding! Thought provoking!
Ted Deckker crafts a story with unique twists that keep the reader on the edge of their seats. He has the ability to combine the elements of Judeo Christian heritage in such a way that shocks the imagination into considering the reality of believing in such a system of thought. In the end the willingness to sacrifice one’s own life for the benefit of others trumps any other system of belief. This simple uniqueness made me appreciate being in the Circle and marvel that more Horde refuse to see the amazing benefits of drowning.
BTW this reader is the best of any audio book reader that I’ve ever heard! His rhythm, tone, cadence, and character changes are superb!

A wonderful read, but 75% rushed listen.
The circle series has been one of my favorite series for many years. My step mother gave them to me when I was still a young adolescent. It took me a long time to actually sit down and read Black, Red, and White. Once I did I fell into the dreams with Thomas of Hunter. Then Green came out and I realized the genius of Dekker. Here was a series you could not only start from Green or Black, but with any one of the books and it all came around. So, I decided to grab the audiobook. Green was narrated quite well, but black and on was hard to listen to. Monotone, and rushed. There is almost no pause between dialogue at many points. It’s makes it hard to follow at times. I sincerely hope these get done over by someone else in future.

Interesting books with the narrator from Green read all the books.
Must reed especially in our days of covid. If i were to listen to it again i would follow the advice from other reviewers and leave Green as the last book not first. There are a few reasons for this one of which is narration in Green is considerably better than the rest of the book. Very unfortunate that it was not the same narrator for the other books. I kept wishing that the other books went back to the same narrator as in Green. Green was written last and as the story goes should be last too. I feel like i have to to green to get proper closer.

Best audible book ever!
Absolutely LOVED how it all came together! The description of XXX (don't want to spoil for others 😉) death was more graphic than I cared for, but it was nothing in comparison to how Christ suffered on the cross!
Absolutely loved how it drew me in and how it made comparisons to sin, the lost, the redemption, the life of the redeemed, and of Christs' love for everyone!

The story as an idea had so much promise...
The idea of one person living in two realities and a story line that loops back onto itself... man was I excited about this book. Unfortunately I think the idea of if gave me such high expectations that the reality of it could never meet up to. I also don’t know why the audio book doesn’t start you in Black first. There was so much repetition of themes through out all the books I feel like hours were wasted retelling things that were already told. I was a real struggle for me to push through to finish all four books.

Powerfully Written and God inspired!
As I listened through this incredible story, I couldn’t help thinking how Ted Dekker was able to orchestrate this incredible novel to so closely align with the biblical explanation of the origins of our world, it’s end and all the challenges and theories in between. This I believe would not have been possible without God inspiring this novel; not in the same way the Bible was inspired, but inspired nonetheless. Thank you Ted for using your knowledge and gift in writing for God’s glory. This story truly revealed the deep truths of God’s word in a very real and understandable way. Thank you for giving this gift to the world at a time where it is much needed.
