JUST NO!!!!

I grab this series because of reviews but boy were they wrong, JUST NO!!!!

This book is filled with glamorous parties, teenagers drinking, complaints about hangovers and a teenage girl (Evelyn) engaged in a polyamorous relationship. oh, there is a supernatural spin but the whole story is about this polyamorous relationship.

I tried to have an open mind considering the subject matter of the supernatural connection, but the Evelyn character is a teenagers who is barely of-age, who is almost forcefully engaged in a sexual relationship with not one but four individuals of varying ages between 20 and 30. Sometimes multiple partners at the same time..

I could almost excuse the polyamory if the characters were full fledged ADULTS over the age of 21, but they aren't. Parts of this book just made me cringe at the fact that Evelyn is a teenager who is being emotionally jerked around by a guy in his thirties (Alex), and then emotionally manipulated to feel guilty by/for the younger relationship members (Ethan, Josh) and a school counselor (Tyler). In no way shape or form would this type of a relationship ever be considered healthy, especially with the mental and emotional manipulation. Couple that with teenagers and it's just glamorizing an example of an unhealthy relationship.

If this book is targeted at young adults then it's teaching really BAD examples of what a healthy relationship it. Multiple partners is a personal choice, I get that, but not for a teenager who is barely mature enough to understand her own emotions.

I will he returning this book as I still have another book in the series that I don'tt even want to finish...

Oh the drama!

So I loved the premise of the story and wanted so badly to see where it would go. I stuck it out as long as I could, 8 hours, but the eye rolling just would not stop. The main character is an immature, overreacting, whiny, crying, drama queen. I mean every little thing, and there she is crying or she's pissed off for absolutely no reason. She cried more in these 8 hours than I could handle. I told myself, if she cries one more time over something stupid, that's it I'm done, and a minute later there it was. She's like a 12 year old in an adult situation. I mean literally creating drama wherever possible. I'm done, I can't, don't read, it's dumb.

Terrific story

Variant Lost

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 🤨☺️🙃😎🥰

The heroine: Eve - She grew up with her single mother, they moved from place to place changing names each time. They were running from someone but her mother will never tell her who or why or anything really. After her mother dies in a plane crash, Eve is invited to be a student at the Bradford Hills Institute. She is a human but has an interest in science, especially having to do with Variant DNA and abilities.

The Hero(es): Tyler (a.k.a. Gabe) – He is an administrator at the Institute, very handsome and all the women want him. He is a Variant and his power is as a lie detector.
Ethan (a.k.a. Kid) - He is a student at the Institute, a Variant with the power of fire.
Alec (a.k.a. Master of Pain) – He works for a mysterious organization that rescued Eve from the ocean after the plane crash in which only she and the Variant Co-pilot survived. He is a Variant and his power is causing pain. Almost everyone gives him a wide berth due to the fact that sometimes his power leaks from him and gives people nearby headaches.
Josh - Kid’s friend who grew up with the other guys. He is a Variant with the power of Telekinesis.

The Love Story: Eve is enjoying the institute and having a home where before she moved from place to place. The four guys seem extremely interested in her from the start. All four guys grew up together and went through some things when they were young. The four guys live together. They are all Variants (which another word for people with DNA that gives them special abilities).

The audio/narration on this one was very odd. The female narrator was perfect for this one. The character of Eve is 18 years old and the narrator’s voice reminded me of a Emma Roberts at about that age, so it was perfect. Though the male narrator reminded me of a movie trailer narrator, the voices for the 4 guys sounded way too old and had the inflection like he was narrating movie trailers “In a world…”.

Though one thing I really liked about the narration on this book was that even though it was told in Eve’s POV, the male narrator did the male voices. In all the audiobooks I have listened to, when it is the female POV, the female does the male voices and when it is the male POV the male does the female voices. I always thought it should be this way. Though I would have liked it to be multiple POV. I like to hear the Heroes POV.

The story was great. Though as far as romance, it is a slow burn. The reverse harem aspect is coming along though there isn’t a lot of intimate contact between the main characters as of yet. That is fine though as it is more realistic than a bunch of people jumping into bed together or the heroine jumping in and out of each of the men’s beds. The Variant storyline is extremely interesting and the secrets are even more so. I am completely enjoying this so far.

Vital Found

Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: ❤️💙💜💛❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 🤨☺️🙃😎🥰

The heroine: Eve (a.k.a. Evelyn) - She now knows that she is the Vital for the 4 Heroes. A Vital is a conduit to the light for the guys. The Vital absorbs the light and can filter it into the Variant(s) that they are bonded to. Eve is bonded to all 4 of the Heroes.

The Hero(es): Tyler (a.k.a. Gabe) – with the light he gets from Eve, he can not only determine that others are telling lies, but what they are lying about and what is the truth behind the lie.
Ethan (a.k.a. Kid) - He is gaining control of his fire ability.
Josh - He has the power of Telekinesis and with the light infusions from Eve, he is working on being able to fly.
Alec (a.k.a. Master of Pain) – He can send pain out in huge waves. He is doing everything he can to deny his bond with Eve.

The Love Story: The relationship between Alec and Eve is strained to say the least at the start of this book. Also Eve doesn’t really know what her relationship with Tyler is. Since he works for the administration at the Institute, she sees him as a sort of authority figure so she is confused about that and thinks he doesn’t have romantic feelings for her.

The audio/narration is growing on me with the second book, though I still don’t like the male narration. Not only is the voice too old sounding for these young guys, the inflection he uses for Tyler is too chipper and still reminds me of a movie trailer voice. Also, the inflection he uses for Ethan is way too surfer dude and dumb sounding, some of the writing for Ethan shows him as not the brightest of the four, but this voice makes him sound so dumb that it is hard to see what Eve would see in him.

The story was great. I liked it as much as the first book. There was the acrimony between the hate groups and the Variants, the continued issues between Eve and Tyler, and the animosity that Alec seems to hold for Eve. The storylines just keep getting more interesting.

The heroine: Eve (a.k.a. Evelyn) - She is bonded to all 4 of the Heroes.

The Hero(es): Tyler (a.k.a. Gabe) – a Variant with the ability to read minds/detect lies.
Ethan (a.k.a. Kid) - a Variant with a fire ability.
Josh - A Variant with the power of Telekinesis.
Alec (a.k.a. Master of Pain) – A Variant with the ability to cause pain.

The Love Story: Eve has solidified the bond between her and Tyler, Ethan and Josh, but Alec is a different story.

This book had the most action and was definitely the best of the three. Like the last books I really enjoyed the narration from the female voice, but the male voice just didn’t fit her four guys. Though I must say that this guy is good at using different voices and inflections for the different male characters. The woman is the same. I could definitely tell when each of the different characters was speaking.

The storyline about Eve glowing was terrific. There were also some terrific villains in this series. Eve’s biological father trying to use her (and other Vitals) to transfer abilities from one person to another was extremely interesting. This book was definitely the steamiest of the series. There were quite a few intimate scenes between Eve and her Variants.

Love this box set!

Definitely the best value in an audiobook! The narrators did a great job with this one and especially loved the duet narration.

The story itself is A+++. Evie and her guys are just 🔥. Probably don’t listen to this with your kids in the car or without headphones at work 😉

Great!!

Was a fantastic story line and really built characters. If you're looking for romance, its got so much potential for more. I mean, there isn't any steamy scenes for hours. And, what you could do with 4?! No. Never goes there. But, narration was great and the story was very believable in this world. Overall wonderful! Just so much potential for more!

It was too long. The book had potential but it fell flat. The characters were likable. The ending showed Us Dot having kids but nothing on the main characters. The author should have wrapped it up better. Sex scenes in the book weren't very exciting either

Amazing series!

Listened to this completed trilogy on audiobook and I love it and didnt want it to end. We got some amazing world building (as I have repeatedly mentioned in my individual book reviews). If you are looking for a supernatural world where time was taken to explain things, explore powers, and what not, this series is for you! I loved the Variant/Vital dynamic. I hated how political and hate, but it would be prevalent if this world was real so I appreciated it (if you look at our society, you see these kind of division and hate already, so in that respect its very relatable).

I loved that this harem wasn't an easy win for anyone. I loved the different personalities of the guys, even if they kept making repeatable mistakes and they didnt always act their age. I loved the sweet and sexy moments, loved the family feeling they created despite how their families were taken from them (I had hoped that one might make a surprise appearance but I understood why haha). The side characters were a pleasant surprise, most of them made me smile (one was a huge surprise that I wanted more of). The betrayals and losses were tough, hits you right in the heart (you have been warned!). The romance and relationship building was also incredible. This trilogy has everything you want in a story, I couldn't stop listening and tried and failed to pace myself haha.

In terms of the narration, I thought the performances were done well, so many emotions and situations portrayed really well. I think there were a couple clunky things (one of the main guy's accent changed throughout the series), one of the side character accents was consistent, etc. I would still give the narration 4.5/5 stars.

Overall I would give this trilogy 4.5/5 stars. Books 1 and 2 were so strong and incredible! I think book 2 was my favorite. Book 3 had its moments but fell a little flat for me in places and made em frustrated in others (knocked down to 4/5 star ratings). I did like book 3 but it felt rushed in places and things readers had been waiting the whole series for weren't there like other things were (sorry for vague booking haha, just don't want to give anything away). The epilogue was fantastic and loved how the author ended things. I would still love to see a spinoff or something, this world was so amazing and well thought out, I didnt want to leave it ❤️

This has been playing everywhere I go for the last week

I couldn’t put it down. I loved the story. The narrators. I loved that the female narrator was really close to how I imaging Eve talking. This audio is amazing. As I’d the series. I’ll be looking out for Jarrod and Janine in future audios and definitely more from Kaydence Snow. If you haven’t picked up this series I definitely recommend it. It’s light PNR and RH. I loved that the guys were varying in ages and all of them were above 18. Once for my re read collection

Loved it!

I really loved this series, the characters were so well worked out, the story had plenty of twists and turns, I loved that some scenes were worked out in detail, and while describing only a short amount of time, they added so much depth to the storyline and made me connect to the characters more. Still, they didn’t slow the story down or make me lose interest in or awareness of the main storyline.
Really well written, I thoroughly enjoyed listening!

A great way to spend 44 hours

So, I wanted a lot of book for my Audible credit, and this gave it to me. I got all three books in this great series, awesome narrators, good quality audio, and an entertaining listen.

Performance: Janine Granda and Jarred Kjack did a great job on this series. I'll be tracking down books by them in the future. I had some problems with Jarred at the beginning of the series when he voices Tyler since he sounds like a video game voice in an introduction to a video game. It made me laugh at inappropriate moments, but I still enjoyed it. When voices were underground, in bathrooms, or through heavy walls, sound effects were added that made the listen more enjoyable.

Story: I love paranormal romance, especially reverse harem, and this did not disappoint. A mild amount of steam (not listening to it where my children can hear without headphones!), magic powers, a 'fated-mate' type romance with multiple guys. I always appreciate worlds where it isn't weird for the girl to have multiple guys, and this story delivered. Our main character is a science nerd who tends to go into science facts when she freaks out. She has a back story, a personality, and is interesting. She has FRIENDS who have actual personalities. This is one of my number one requirements for a good romance book... there are more characters than just those involved in the romance. This story delivers.

Good Story but too much unnecessary sex

I am not a proud but I kept waiting for the sex scenes to end so they would get on with the story. Didn't realize I had downloaded a soft porn book. Sorry if this is harsh but really too much sex.

Captivating

This series is amazing and real value for money. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. The author skillfully builds this world and writes about fascinating characters that draw you on from the very beginning with their complex relationships. The narration really suits the characters with the right amount of distinction for each point of view making it easy and enjoyable to listen to.
