Publisher's Summary

A beguiling novel of revenge, deliverance, and a powerful sisterhood of magic by the Washington Post bestselling author of The Vine Witch and The Glamourist.

Sidra didn’t murder her husband. Yet even a jinni can’t wish away a wrongful imprisonment. Determined to prove her innocence, she returns to her adopted home - a French village renowned for its perfume witches - with her friends Elena and Yvette by her side. Here is where Sidra’s true destiny awaits, but danger also lurks in the village’s narrow lanes.

On her trail is Jamra, another jinni, who’s after more than revenge for the murder of his brother. He also seeks vengeance for the indignities inflicted on jinn by mortals over the centuries. When he learns of an ancient relic capable of unleashing chaos on the world, and that the weapon is in the hands of his murderous sister-in-law, he vows to destroy Sidra to get it.

Relying on a sisterhood of magic, a mysteriously faithful dog, and a second-rate sorcerer, Sidra defends herself using the village’s greatest asset: its perfume. It’s as beguiling a lure as it is a formidable shield. But is it enough for Sidra to protect herself and those she loves from powers yet to be released?

Critic Reviews

“Jones' standard American accent contrasts with Assadourian’s light Middle Eastern cadence, which hints at the story's ancient mystery, and her tones, which allude to the underlying danger the sisterhood faces. The quest engages the imagination and the narrators increase suspense through wide-ranging emotional phrasings - from seeing the mystical Grand Pere in the forest to women’s whispered thoughts amid an incense burner’s gentle scent and cries of fear and enthusiasm as they call spells.” - Booklist

“Series readers and newcomers alike will be enthralled.” - Publishers Weekly

“Readers will enjoy catching up with the characters they already know. Smith (The Glamourist) does lovely work describing the luscious smells that Sidra works with.” - Library Journal

Narration was distracting from overall good story

The original narrator from the first two books was way better. The voice used for Yvette in this edition was very squeaky and whiny. Sidra's voice is inconsistent and seems to go in and out of accent. It's very distracting from an otherwise good series of books.

Others were better

I had high hopes for this book as I really liked the first two in the series. This one was difficult to get into. Halfway through the book, I realized I had no idea what was going on and I realized I didn’t care that much. I wish it was more centered around the vine witch and not about the other characters so much.

Enjoyable

I listened to this as an audio and they brought in an additional narrator. I listened to this trilogy back to back and I was so impressed with the narrator of Books 1-2, that I did have some dissappointment when the voices of two of the main characters changed in the third book.

That being said, I did enjoy listening to the remaining book in the Trilogy. It's suspenseful and fun.

Fun Series

Fun story of magic and friendship. The narration was very good at times and very shrill at others, making it difficult to enjoy the story.

Additional narrator was unnecessary

Ok the story is great and I loved all three books!! But I have to say that I didn’t see the purpose in using 2 different narrators this time. I had grown used to the way Jones adjusted her voice for each character and had a hard time picking up on Assadourians interpretation. Her Voice for Ivette for example was odd. Plus the accent didn’t match. Sorry.

However, it was still a great story and I enjoyed listening to it from start to finish!

Great story!

I loved all the books in this series! The only thing I struggled with is the narrator swapping in this last book. I would have appreciated consistency until the end with the narrator, but the additional narrator definitely fit with the storyline of this book.

I loved the first two audiobooks but this was one was difficult to enjoy.

The switch between two narrators in a third-person narrative does not work.
Sadly, I couldn’t enjoy the story as I did the previous ones.

good but...

I loved this series. I know some reviews said this was the weaker book of the 3 but I enjoyed this as the final journey of these 3 unlikely friends. The voices of our characters seemed a bit off. Yvette was to chipper. None of the street smart girl we meet in book one was left. That is my only complaint. I don't know if this was the writing or the voice recording but it erked me.

Wonderful story

This book really brought all three books together. I’m sad to see these characters story end.

Must Read

Part of a trilogy and a must read /audible. The characters are colourful exciting and the story transports you to places beyond your imagination . A story of friendship, love and honour. Good over comes evil, what a rollercoaster of a ride, a definite must read. Would love the books to be made into a film, Harry Potter eat your heart out.

Romeo and Juliet vibes, but with djinn

The Conjurer is the final book in The Vine Witch trilogy and is full of action and magic with some surprise Romeo and Juliet vibes. It tells the backstory to the third fascinating character in these books, a djinn called Sidra with an anger problem, and the reasoning why the three women keep being thrown together. Like the previous two books, I enjoyed this one. I was going to rate it 4 stars but I'm settling for 3.75 because I wasn't expecting the trilogy to conclude where it did with a big villain and a threat to the world. Not disatisfying, just so unoriginal for such a unique fantasy world.

Thoughts on the overall trilogy... I feel as though the author could have padded out these books better by including more of each of the main characters' specific magic and how they use it. I really would have enjoyed reading about Elena's witch work on the vineyard, Yvette learning about her fae glamour, and Sidra's djinn wishing magic. Mostly I just wanted more explanation of the magic system, especially regarding the wishing magic because it's so prevalent in this book and the second. It's not really explained beyond it being a powerful, persistent, yet convoluted type of avenue of magic.

Absolutely stunning

I was involved in this wonderful world from the moment the story began.
I am now sad to leave now that the telling has finished.
The performances bring this story to me were superb.
