Really good, but why?

This book was a joy to listen to in most respects. The story was engaging, the narration good, and the writing was well done. Definitely worth the credit.

The reason it’s not getting five stars is that this book is essentially a prequel and an afterward to what would be a really good trilogy.

The world that’s outlined and set up has potential to be a vast and nuanced setting, the same goes for the plot. But instead we get the origin story and the part that happens after the big monster has been beaten but nothing in between.

I really hope the author intends to flesh out all the parts that are casually glossed over in future books otherwise this book will turn out to be a big letdown overall.

Wow! Just Wow!

Outspan Foster has been diligently working to better his craft in every way. Any time I’ve seen him on social media he’s talked about new techniques he’s picked up or lessons he’s learned from other writers. Hell, he gave me great advice on characters and their agency in a story, and now it is something I notice all the time. Do they have agency or are they just along for the ride? He’s even got a good partnership going with Blaise Corvin and had cranked out some great stuff from their pairing. I actually expect a Veilverse book from him soon. The point is, he’s grown tremendously as a writer and I tell you now that Crafter has just, in my eyes put him in the upper echelon of the writers in the LITRPG field. He has just become one hell of a heavy hitter.

Legacy deals with a young kid named Wick, good name choice because you just know this kid is going to kick ass (Leeroy Jenkins). Wick makes a sacrifice that grants him advantages that few people ever have and . . . .here is the best part, he uses these new advantages to slowly and methodically destroy the people that hurt him or his own people as he also made himself stronger over time. I love treacherous characters, and Wick is one of these guys that spent years waiting for his plans to come to fruition and he sets out to make everyone pay. How awesome is that? So, Wick may be a little OP but if he is it is because of choices that he made and the manner in which he handles the fate he is dealt.

The story holds your attention completely. It has some great powers and abilities as well as amazing characters ranging from the people that support Wick to the ones that try to destroy him. His underlings and friends are just as interesting as wick, and I also appreciate the time spanning qualities that Wick’s revenge takes to unfold. I mean, if you’re going to crush somebody take the time to do it right.

I think that my favorite scene was where Wick goes to confront the head of the thieves guild in his city and unexpectedly gets hit with a Spanish Inquisition!!!! that leads to unexpected results. It was fascinating in watching the real brains play with and parry one another as they circled on another in a sort of game to determine who had the stronger will. Like I say, even in a scene where no real fighting takes place, Foster manages to keep you on tenderhooks. Masterfully done.

My real surprise came in checking out Ramon De Ocampo as the narrator. I knew him from the D&D novel The Stone of Tymora, and I realized as I listened to him that he had also done the Level Up Series and I have to say as much as I liked him there, he has really gotten better and just nails it here. Each character was distinctive and easily stood out from the other voices so that I always knew who was speaking. He was dramatic and serious, and added fun and humor so I think that he has only proven that he was the perfect choice for Foster to use.

My final score? Considering that I’d put this up against Dean, Hunter, Corvin, Krout, and Willmarth (just to name a few) I can’t low-ball this. Great revenge tale, amazing characters and magic system as well. 8.4 stars. Welcome to the big league OF!

this is a missed opportunity for a great series

this is a missed opportunity for a great series because they've sort of condensed what could have been a great serious into one book and because of this it's sort of disjointed and we are missing a lot of information at the end about the different characters the should have at being a 6 book series hopefully the author will take its time and make sure fix that

Too much time on repetitive ruminations

The MC was an 11 year old who was unbelievably wise to the ways of wizards and the world. That it what was the major drawback of this novel. Outspan Foster didn't help his novel having his MC being an arrogant, manipulative and dislikable character. The prose was difficult keeping up with jumping back and forth in time at points where it gave a major tell as what was going to occurs further on in the primary time line.

Wow ...Top 5 all time, and I got it on a whim too

I really didn't know what I was in for ...oh my days!!!!!
What a treat this was, I'm so into this story. I haven't had the experience of stumbling across such a good book in a really loooooooooooooooooong time.
Recently, I've tried to be more technical in my reviews ...but this right here is a pure emotional response to an amazing book.
Just trust me ...if u r into this genre (progression fantasy) this one is one of the best you can ever hope to find.
The world building ...top notch!!!
The character development ....masterful!!!
The magic system ...familiar, but still distinctly unique, and it has lots of meat for ur imagination to bite into
The story ...undeniably good
The writing ...this is a solid piece of work, nothing amateurish about it

The MC is not stupid, which happens more often than not in this genre and the story justifies his quirks, so it's all part of the experience. In this genre, it is soooo common for the MC to be annoying, and/or for there to be an inexplicably annoying supporting character. Idk why that trope is so popular, but thank God the author took the time to flesh out believable personalities.

Honestly, I think this is the best book I've read all yr ...so far.
You should definitely DEFINITELY spend the credit. you will be glad you did 10/10

it was a good story but I'm not a fan of constantly jumping between what's happening in the future and the. to the past the whole book

Not a litrpg

For some odd reason this book came up as a Litrpg novel. When you go through it it does sound like it is but there is no leveling in the way of stat screens or anything like that. It was a good book for a fantasy read but it wasn’t really my thing. The narrator was great and in the book justice it just wasn’t what I was expecting

Great book, main character is a bit too smart

Well written. Really well read. But the protagonist is a bit too smart and a lot too conniving. He talks often about overcoming his difficulties through tenacity but is not really shown struggling to overcome what are admittedly very large obstacles. Still a fun read.

Highly enjoyable

MC is fleshed out and if not relatable, is at least not an MC who either whines a lot or makes dumb decisions similar to many other MCs in this genre. I do want a big payoff at the end of all this though so I'll be continuing the journey with the 2nd book in the series.

Loved it, a great start

I loved crafters legacy, whilst there wasn’t much crafting yet as this is just the start it gives you glimpses of what this will become. I can’t what to see how Wick becomes stronger and gains his Gold.

Looking forward to the next book.
