Perfect Fun!

Short, interesting, sometimes predictable but in a pleasing way. Got chills a couple times. Great collection of stories.

Nice collection

There were a few stories that I could have done without, but my experience has been mostly positive with this collection. That’s quite a feat. Definitely recommend it

Covers Everything Mystery - Murder, Deceit, Ghosts

This is a wonderful compilation with many of the performers I enjoy from other crime and mystery audio books! The time flies by as your pulled into every vignette.

Enjoyable But Inconsistent

There was enough variety to keep the collection interesting but the quality was inconsistent. Sometimes warm and uplifting and sometimes dark and creepy, the varied plots were great. The writing quality, however, seemed equally varied.

All narration was terrific!

Thoroughly Enjoyable

This is my first Peter Lovesey book and the stories contained in it were delightful. The tales were intriguing and even funny. Some included the paranormal.

The narrators were a joy to listen to and brought each story to life. A very entertaining read.

You will never guess...

Try as you may, these stories have a way to drag you to the conclusion expected, but not in the same guise. Enjoy

Like Hitchcock?

Assumed these were mini true stories, my favorite genre. Pleasantly surprised how good they are, and the narration is perfect. Highly recommend and hope more will be available.

Brilliant stories all with an excellent twist.

I can’t remember when I enjoyed a new-to-me author as much as I have enjoyed Peter Lovesey.
I listened to the entire collection twice.
The narration is excellent.
Thanks Audible.

Love Lovesey

Here’s another crime writer I never would have met had it not been for Audible Plus. And what a writer; the evocation of characters and settings made even the stories I could figure out before the end well worth the ride. Ranging everywhere, from revenge to reconciliation, omniscient narration to epistolary subjectivity, an ersatz ghost to bona fide specters, these made an enjoyable, if sometimes uneven, accompaniment to the evening noggin. And every member of our gallery of readers is well up to the mark.

Wonderful

This has some of the best mystery ghost stories I Have ever heard. Great for a Christmas Eve celebration! I will listen to this book over and over.

Entertaining collection

I very rarely leave a review, but as I depend so much on those left by others when choosing my next listen, I've decided I need to do my bit too. 😏.
I very much enjoyed listening to this collection of entertaining crime stories and I will certainly listen to them again. I prefer crime that is not grisly or graphic and these stories satisfy that preference without being overly "cosy". Some of the narrators in this collection are better than others (5 stars for the content, 4 stars for the narration).

A good mix of stories

I'm not usually a fan of short stories but I found this selection very entertaining.
Considering these stories are somewhere in the region of 30 years old, there was no feeling of them being outdated and in only a couple did I guess the conclusion before I got there.
The narrators were excellent throughout.
Good job.

One of my favs!

I really enjoyed listening to these short crime stories and have listened to them over again! Some are better than others and overall really enjoyed it.
I like how each chapter is for a different story. Would definitely recommend this book.

Another writer to keep track of!

All the stories are interesting with a startling range of subjects.
Serious and empathetic, but also with much fun an humour … I loved the one about HOLMES. The first story about Miss Oyster is also very good… I can honestly say that I did guess some endings … but only when you highlighted the appropriate clue!
I’ll be looking at some of Mr Lovesey’s other writing soon.
Thank you!

A great bunch of stories.

Loved them, 1 exception - the story with Scottish accents was awful, quite painful actually!

It my have been my ears…..

I found this audiobook a bit odd.
With the first story, narrated by a man, it didn’t seem end properly whe suddenly a female reader broke in with another story - mid-way through it seemed - then that suddenly switched to another male reader, also apparently mid-ŵay through that story!

The stories are absorbing though. While the tales are being¡ told that is!

Spoilers in the author's introduction

I've never heard of Peter Lovesey before, but it seems that I would only be listening to his stories because I already knew everything about them; writing stories with a twist at the end but then giving away the twists in his introduction is VERY uncool. Readers want to discover the outcome of a mystery, not have the author ruin it with his arrogance. Reality check Peter: the whole world doesn't know who you are, and at least one person now doesn't care. Audible: change his ego trip to an epilogue, it's not appropriate as a prologue. Listeners: if you don't know these stories already, start at chapter 2.
