Nine months later, LeMond lay in a hospital bed, his career as a bicycle racer seemingly over. And yet, barely two years after this crisis, LeMond mounted a comeback. In 1989, he once again won the Tour - by a narrow margin of eight seconds. It remains the closest Tour de France in history. For professional cyclists, going faster and winning are, of course, closely related. Yet surprisingly, for many, a desire to go faster is much more important than a desire to win. Someone who wants to go faster will work at the details and take small steps rather than focusing on winning. Winning just happens when you do everything right - it's the doing everything right that's hard. And that's what fascinates and obsesses Michael Hutchinson.

The first in-depth look at Lance Armstrong's doping scandal, the phenomenal business success built on the back of fraud, and the greatest conspiracy in the history of sports. Lance Armstrong won a record-smashing seven Tours de France after staring down cancer, and in the process became an international symbol of resilience and courage. In a sport constantly dogged by blood-doping scandals, he seemed above the fray. Then, in January 2013, the legend imploded. He admitted doping during the Tours and, in an interview with Oprah, described his "mythic, perfect story" as "one big lie."

Fantastic information for self-trainers!
As a certified fitness trainer and amateur cyclist, I think this book is perfect for those wanting to train themselves to be better cyclists. the information is practical and well presented, and following a structured training plan as recommended can do wonders for performance.
This book may not be helpful for advanced cyclists who have worked with a cycling coach in the past.

Great info
Great info on periodization and how to improve as an advanced cyclist, but mostly it taught me I am not there yet. I still need some years of just riding more before doing all of this. Will do some of this before races but mainly focus on riding more in the majority of the year.
And yes, there is a supplementary pdf contrary to what the other reviewer said and it is available in the audible app.

Book's title doesn't lie
Great as a first read about cycling training or even sports training in general. The author gives you tools to build your own training plan from yearly periodization to individual session examples. You can also learn about importance of rest, nutrition and right mental approach. The new edition of the book was publish recently and the author doesn't forget about use of modern training tool and devices in cycling training, such as various web tools, power meters, indoor trainers, devices monitoring how rested you are and supporting recovery.
Only downside for a lot of as is that the book is focused mainly on racers, and falls a bit short of delivering guidelines for intermediates and novices, but I respect that and you will most likely still learn a lot.

Probably the best training book I have bought so far
I wish I had bought this book first, would have saved money from the other books. I had a spare audio credit so bought it to try out. Within two days I ordered the hard copy too. I listen to the chapter and then refer back to the book to take key notes. So much information it is going to take me a while but so far really impressed with this book. I don’t think you need any other training book, it literally is the cyclist bible
