Publisher's Summary

The deadly hunt ends in the thrilling final book of the Trackers saga....

The mountain town of Estes Park, Colorado, is scrambling to recover from the betrayal of two of their police officers, and prepare for threats outside their borders. But with Chief of Police Marcus Colton imprisoned by rival Sheriff Mike Thompson, the job to protect the isolated town is left to Sam "Raven" Spears and newly promoted Captain Lindsey Plymouth. They will do everything they can to bring Colton home and save their citizens, but one thing is certain: a war is coming to Estes Park, and no one will be spared from the horrors.

Across the country, Secretary of Defense Charlize Montgomery continues to lead recovery efforts in the wake of the arriving Chinese workers and soldiers. But the threat of foreign soldiers on American soil isn't the only problem - the Sons of Liberty and other domestic terrorist groups continue to rise to power, enacting a wave of violence and chaos that threatens to derail the recovery efforts.

Will Raven, Colton, and Charlize save the United States from collapse? One thing is certain - they won't be able to save everyone. Not with their humanity still intact.

Great end to a great series

Exhilarating story from start to finish. I really enjoyed the audio performance as well. As with all of this author's series, each book improved on and enhanced the overall series. Looking forward to what is next.

I first read the entire series on amazon and enjoyed it. This series seems like something that could actually happen. When I got on Audible and saw the series available, I didn’t hesitate too get it. Whether you read or listen to it, you will get caught up in the story line.

Loved this series from start to finish

This is the forth and final installment of the Trackers series. I truly loved this series from start to finish, and I'm happy to say that it finished strong.

About half way though the book I found that so much was going on that I wondered if this was really the final book. The entire book was packed full of action and written in a such a way that I remained fully engaged throughout.

I highly recommend the Trackers series.

Some of Smith’s Best Work

Well then, that’s a series wrap. And boy was it ever a great series. Rarely does a book make me feel like “oh shit, that could very easily happen”. Trackers made me feel that way from beginning to end. The fourth and final book definitely made me feel that way – especially once things between countries started to overboil and (trying not to spoil) they were given permission to take care of some of the heat.

The Damned was one of those books that I started but just could not put down. Smith had me absolutely riveted to my seat and I could not wait to figure out where Raven and co were going to end up. I couldn’t have predicted pretty much any outcome since he had me guessing throughout.

There were some characters that I liked in this book (and in the others) that didn’t make it. That shouldn’t come as a surprise because apocalypses are messy – but it’s good to read a book where not everyone is safe and untouchable.

It’s also extremely refreshing to read a book (and series) where a non-white is the main character in it. Raven is an absolutely badass MC and I would love to have him watch my back any day. Watching his character transformation from book one to the finale of book four felt like watching a boy become a man – except on a grander scale.

It’s also refreshing to read a book where politics really isn’t forced on you – but Smith seemed to take what would most likely happen and applied it to the series. I won’t dive into why I believe this and I’m sure there are some other reviews that show you different – but no matter how close the US would be to empty – someone would jump in to help – even those we least expected.

I ended up making this review an almost review of the entire series – but you made it this far – the book was awesome and so was the series. It’s definitely up there with Hell Divers in my eyes as some of Smith’s best work.

There was a scene at/near the very end of this book that definitely started to tear me up. I love spending that much time with a book that it actually chokes you up when something happens.

The Damned

This has been my favorite series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith and I suppose that makes this one of the harder reviews to write, for I will miss Creek, Raven and the rest of the gang, some more than others. It is a better sweet end to a tough subject, a subject made tougher because at any point it could come true. This is just another awesome book by a wonderful author that will have you on the edge of your seat and staying up way past your bedtime or in my case taking the long way home from work to listen a little bit longer as audio narrator Bronson Pinchot is great with all the voices for the characters.

Great Series!

Excellent post-apocalyptic series! I hate to see it all end and definitely hoping for a spin-off series with Raven and Creek. They have plenty of other hate groups and gangs to deal with as the United States gets back on it's feet with the assistance of China.

If you haven't read the rest of this series, I recommend not starting with this book. These should definitely be read in order. Spoilers ahead if you haven't read books 1-3. North Korea attacks the US with multiple EMP strikes taking out our electrical grids. The country is in chaos. Gangs and other hate groups take what they want without any worry of consequences. The US gets an offer of help from a very unlikely ally, China.

This series has something I think is very important in any post-apocalyptic type of story, a dog! Creek is Raven's dog and probably the biggest hero of the series! I also loved all of the Native American lore the author included in this story!

Another great series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith and a great narration by Bronson Pinchot! I'm looking forward to enjoying more of their work!

Makes one think.

If you think the modern world can never be taken away, think again! What is eye opening about this series is that this "fictional story" can become true life so easily.

Riveting

I rarely write reviews but in this instance I felt I should. The Tracker series gave insight to what can happen if there were ever an EMP strike and it is scary as hell. Nicholas Sansbury Smith gave us a glimpse of this world. I loved every single book and would recommend you read them all.

Not High Brow Fiction but....

This is the second series of novels I have listened to by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. Both were end of the world scenarios ( the other I read was the Extinction Cycle).

This series is very much white hat good guy black hat bad guy ( for those old enough for the old westerns ). It would be really easy to dismiss this as easy to read, elevator story. However it isn’t! Mr Sansbury Smith has created a believable arena for his protagonists to act upon.

My only criticism and in this series it is only a tiny problem is that his female characters aren’t as well defined as his male heros

The performance by Bronson Pinchot is spot on. He doesn’t get in the way of the story which is the mark of a good narrator.

I feel a little sad as I’ve reached the end of the series and I will miss Raven and his Akita and the other characters. Maybe there may be another book Mr Sansbury Smith
