A must listen, to make parenting enjoyable.

I bought a printed copy of this book when I had my first son and never read it fully. He’s three years now and I enjoyed listening to this audio book. Everything in this book resonates so well with what we shouldn’t have done this last three years and I am happy that I’ve found these secrets to raising happy kids not very late. I highly recommend this and my sincere thanks to the authors and all who made it possible, including the Audible team 👍

Happier families

This book provide simple, effective, common sense steps that every family can apply to their lives immediately. It’s so easy to spend time doing chores and other activities that take us away from our kids. By involving our kids in more daily activities and spending quality fine with them without the need of electronics does make for happier kids.
I loved the idea of free play for our kids with their friends. It’s so easy to have them running from one sporting activity to their music class then back for drama class, but that time with her friends, I notice is when my daughter is happiest.

Crystalizes what one intuitively knows is true

This (audio) book expresses and crystalizes factors that underpin the development of happy, confident and resilient kids (who grow up well-adjusted to be the same kind of adults). It brings to the forefront what we sometimes "intuitively know to be true" but yet cannot conceptualize it sufficiently to put it into words, actions or practice. Extremely helpful and for me, contains a number of "oh yea" (not necessarilly "ah ha") moments. Great listen and I will be embrace the practicalities of this approach with my two boys, eight and three.

A nice, easy read for busy parents

I really liked this audiobook as it wasn't judgemental or patronising and it gave some really good tips for parents or people working with young people. I usually listen to fiction audiobooks so this was a nice change.

Interesting perspective on parenting

Lots of useful hints and tips for parenting. It's good to learn about how the Danes approach parenthood.

I found myself having to take things with large grains of salt. Sweeping generalisations would benefit from being specified as opinion versus fact.

It's also a shame that the book is written as though the reader is American, I found this quite alienating at times, especially the over use of "we" and "us" in regards to US culture.

Definitely worth a listen, but don't treat as gospel.

The perfect listen & incredibly insightful!

I’ve been listening to parenting books for a while now and this is by far the most relatable, achievable and comforting of books I’ve listened to in a while.

All the advice is completely relatable, doesn’t seem unrealistic for busy, over tired parents who want to be better and try new approaches and enjoy parenting even more.

Some points are ones we already have adopted in our home, some are new, and some are just reassuring that we’re on the right path!

A Fantastic Listen and one you don’t want to put down!

Loved it!

Very satisfying listen

I really enjoyed this book. A whole bunch of factors, some I'd thought of and was great to have confirmed by the Danish, other factors I'd never thought of and was very pleased to be introduced to. Also nice to be done in 3.5hrs.

A great perspective on the way we are raised and how that affects our parenting

This book is a positive take on the societal norms in Denmark vs America and how it affects the way we raise children. It’s been really helpful in my parenting journey as I’m trying to heal my own trauma and learn more about how I can show up as the best parent possible for my kids.

Danish sycophant

ive recently listened to achtung baby which in my eyes is a far superior book. the author of achtung baby actually lived in germany, and had studies to back up her statements. in this bokk the authors husband is danish and nearly everything she says seems to be her own personal experience. it all relates to danes being the 'happiest people in the world'. like achtung baby i cant help but wonder if she's an american who has experienced life outside her country and realised america isnt close to being the best country in the world to live. as for her parenting methods. it seems to be just generally about dont hit your kids, positive reinforcement. things we know are good that arent exclusive to danes. i didnt take away anything useful from the book hence the low rating

insightful

this book is really enjoyable and easy to listen to. the light mix of anecdotal stories and scientific research keep it both relatable and logically sound. i will read it again before my baby arrive.
while most of the method will be more applicable when kids are 1 year, it's a good read for any ages
