Publisher's Summary

A fierce revolutionary. A desperate prince. Together they will face the Storm, or be swept away....

In this thrilling and epic YA fantasy debut, the only hope for a city trapped in the eye of a cursed storm lies with the daughter of failed revolutionaries and a prince terrified of his throne.

Prince Dalca was born for one purpose: to protect his home from the Storm, a deadly force that surrounds his city and curses everyone it touches. Vesper Vale is the daughter of failed revolutionaries. Since the queen sentenced her mother to death by the Storm, she and her father have been on the run.

So when the queen's soldiers—led by Prince Dalca—catch up to Vesper's father, she will do whatever it takes to save him from sharing her mother's cruel fate.

Even arm herself with her father's book of dangerous experimental magic.

Even infiltrate the prince's elite squad of soldier-sorcerers.

Even cheat her way into his cold heart.

But when Vesper learns that there's more to the story of her mother's death, and that her home is in dire peril, she has little choice: trust the devious prince with her family's secrets, or follow her mother's footsteps into the Storm....

high potential, but left under promised

I had high hopes but it just wasn't for me. I loved the narrative and the writing of the story the characters were good too I highly like cas and Iz. The lead Vesper was good to but found a few irritating flaws with her plus the male lead Dalca.
What I also loved was the information regarding the magic and how the icons work in this world. But there was no building up of the characters or the world to fall back on, it felt all thrown at you and hoped you worked it out. I found myself getting g lost or confused with characters or timing of plot  and towards the end like last 3 chapters it felt too many things were happening and heavily relied on a 2nd book to follow it up. There could have been a really nice romance to this story as well but what the writer did hint with romance was very very underwhelming and disappointing . This book has a sense of shadow and bone cross Hunger games feel to it.
I liked it but not loved it and I dont have it in me to reach for the next book when it debuts on shelves.
This wasn't for me but could be for you.
