Story
She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy. So when the baby shower comes around, I’m sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth. There is no baby....

Publisher's Summary
Something bad has happened to Alison Taylor.
Her Saturday night started normally. Recently separated from her husband, Ali has been persuaded by her friends to go on a date with a new man. She is ready, she is nervous, and she is excited. She is about to take a step into her new future.
By Sunday morning, Ali’s life is unrecognizable. She wakes, and she knows that something is wrong. She is home, she is alone, she is hurt, and she has no memory of what happened to her.
Worse still, when she looks in the mirror, Ali doesn’t recognize the face staring back at her. She can’t recognize her friends and family. And she can’t recognize the person who is trying to destroy her....
From the number one best-selling author of The Sister, The Gift, and The Surrogate, The Date is a gripping pause resister that will keep you awake until the early hours. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train and Before I Go to Sleep.

Bad Date
I did not care for this book. The first few chapters were engaging and actually very suspenseful! But once the author entices the reader from the get go it falls flat. That’s a recurring issue I’ve found with many suspense novels-The beginning of the book is actually the climax and pages that follow are anti-climax.

Neurological deficit enhances the suspense
An original twist sets this novel apart from the conventional woman-in-peril suspense/thriller. Specifically, the protagonist's inability to recognize faces following a disastrous blind date adds an original, intriguing aspect to the story. I was involved in the novel from beginning to end, despite its overly convoluted plot. Recommended to fans of this genre.

Twisted Date night
Louise Jensen wrote magically as Jasmine Blackborow repeated her words elegantly.
Ally has a bad date night and to make it worse... she wakes up with facial recognition disorder.
Someone is after her...but who!...she can't recongnize anyone.🤗
Loved the suspense! If you want a good novel this is it.
Leave it too Jensen to make your listening worth while.

Too slow moving
The story was unique and interesting. The plot progression was really slow with far too many little details. The main character was incredibly narrow in her views making ridiculous decisions for her safety and for her love life. I finished the book but would not suggest others read it.

Disappointed !!!
Once again another author is obsessed with giving readers a ‘twist’ that they ruined a good story with an improbable ending. I think The Girl on the Train has sabotaged so many other books since it came out and everyone was raving about the shocking twist! I think I’m going to start bypassing books that have ‘unexpected twist’ on the cover! Ugh!! The book started off really good and suspenseful 75% was great, then as advertised the shocking twist is just that, unbelievable. It just did not jive at all. I groaned and reluctantly listened to last couple hours. Thankfully this book was inexpensive. I would not recommend wasting money or credit on this one.

Terrible
This is the worst audiobook I have experienced, in fact I stopped it after 5 chapters.
The narration is great... but the content was awful.
The description of every minute detail was distracting and way beyond just giving the ‘reader’ a mental image. It made up 85% of the content I heard. For instance it felt like the most of one chapter was describing a room, then the candle on the shelf, then the detail about the candle, then where she got the candle, then what she was doing when she saw the candle, how she paid for the candle.... you get the idea!!!... all of this can take up most of the chapter and in the end you forgot what room was being described and why!!

Another poorly edited novel...
As with many other novels I've listened to lately, I wish literary agents would correctly edit books before they go to the publisher.
For example:
"Her eyebrows arched, and she raised her eyebrows... "
"I cross and uncross my arms trying to appear casual, two wet patches are formed under my arms..."
Apart from that, the story is decent, although there are a few holes. I guessed the ending.

UM-so very preposterous, Sci-Fi is more plausible!
This is an odd book. It is well written and the plot is even good .. if it was sci-fi as one has to suspend so much disbelief to get on board. It is a shame really and I was teetering on returning this book ... and yet I did enjoy a lot of it. The creepy suspense, the twists and turns but all built on a completely ridiculous and unbelievable premise or series of premises. To suddenly not be able to identify people is one giant leap to take - but then incredible circumstance after incredible happenstance is just too much really to take on board without major brain resistance as just soooo hard to get on board for all that happens. Did I enjoy it .... ummmm yes reluctantly, good narration, great brooding tension - but really ... faceblindness plus all the rest ... UNBELIEVABLE and not in a good way. Much like the lovely dog who despite not having a breed came from a breeder - if nothing else this book could at least have had the important message DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER DOGS DIE. But much like everything else in the book it just seemed to rather miss the point. It had a lot going for it and in bits and pieces it did entertain ... I am grudgingly not going to return this book because I did enjoy it to a point ...but it did beggar belief to the point of incredulity - there are much better books out there - there are much better plots also which this author could employ her considerable talents to tell - let's hope she finds a less contived and bonkers story to tell next time.

Listened to most of the book a good few months ago and then got bored, so listened to it again this month. It was okay, but a bit too "description based" for me. Had to speed up the narrative as I wanted to get it over with quickly. You can guess a lot of the story and ending predictable. .

Downright painful
I appreciate that I'm clearly in the minority given the numerous rave reviews, but I absolutely hated this book.
It is 9hr 39 mins long with about 3 hours of story line. The remainder being chapters filled with seemingly never ending monologue describing mundane interactions or flashbacks of events from her childhood that add little (if anything) to the story.
If it wasn't painful enough listening to the main character bang on and on for 15 minutes at a time about absolutely nothing, you are then forced to listen to the same interaction described again from the perspective of the villain! Come on once was more than enough!!
I persisted with the story given the other reviewers I read describing wonderful suspense and a plot twist I'll never see coming. I waited and waited. At hour 7 I though ok here we go.. something's actually going to happen here!! But it was neither suspenseful nor a shocking plot twist. The ending was just as disappointing as the rest of the book and ridiculously far fetched.
Credit to the notator who not only had to read this book, but she had to maintain an interested tone while doing it.

Held my attention, face paced thirller
I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and started quickly and dramatically. Very well written and enthralling to the end. However I found the story not believable after all was revealed. The villans motives and actions seemed rediculas given the perceived crime he thought the main character did.
Still very good read

Boring and far fetched
A ridiculous story with hours dealing with the past in minute details that has no relevance to the story. I had to speed it up to get through it just in case it had a surprise at the end, which unfortunately there wasn’t. The narrator voice was flat and as drawn out as the story itself. Waste of time.

Good read - could be more suspenseful
Love that this book got straight to the story with no mindless lead up. However the ending did seem a bit wavering. I would have liked the twist to have a stronger character that was built up more intensely rather than just plonked as the twist and ending. I
enjoyed the read and got through the book quicker than usual.
