My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart, and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying "I do" to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy. So when the baby shower comes around, I’m sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth. There is no baby....

Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively redesigned and renovated - a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cozily on the sofa, watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets. Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.

Uhhh... What?? No.
After my fourth attempt to listen to this book, I stopped and asked for my money back. I LOVE psychological thrillers and I can usually find at least one thing interesting or 'different,' or something with a sense of 'twist.'
It's not here. In fact, I don't even know what this book is about. It should be called 'The Mother In Law' or 'The Jerk Son' because that's all the author talks about. This was frustrating. I waited for it to get better but alas.. it doesn't.
I paid full price because it was cheaper than using a credit and, I want my money back.
Blah.

Draaaaagggged on.
Maybe if this book had been half as long. The general storyline was fine with me, but I just got so bored with her dragging it out. The story set up was fine and then the end was fine, but then the middle of the book just went on and on and I got bored as heck. I was going to read some others of her books because some are included for free and now I am not sure. Too bad, love the included books.

Pregnancy in cognac
Why is the daisy drinking so much cognac while pregnant and taking unknown meds... it didn't seem like she cared about the health of her baby. Stress , drinking and pill popping was mentioned so casually as if women drinking hard liquor while stressed and pregnant was normal. So many ppl drank with her while knowing she was pregnant

Terrible book
It’s only because we’re in lockdown that I didn’t stop listening to this incredibly wordy boring book. All the protagonists just went on and on and on..... about their feelings, their relationships, their pasts, their futures and anything else they could whine about and I think this will be seen as a “woman’s book “ because it’s about women and their relationship to childbearing and care. Having experienced both I don’t want to have to listen to any more. I’ve noted the authors name so I don’t listen to any more

Great story, shame about the grammar!
The story gripped me from the start, I couldn’t stop listening.
The only thing that rankled, and the reason I didn’t give it 5 stars, was the wrong usage of ‘me’ and ‘I’. For example “She gave it to Ben and I”. This surely shouldn’t happen in a final copy that’s been proof-read?

Awful from start to finish
This book is about women and their quest to find a man, have natural childbirths and breastfeed... oh and learning to cook so you can keep your man. Weird storyline which is a cross between ‘Misery’ and a bad Mills and Boon. Writing is shockingly bad. Cannot believe this stuff still gets written.

Sensational!
What a utterly brilliantly gripping and well crafted debut novel by Nina Manning. This is THE perfect summer read and bounces along at a great pace to kept the momentum gong as we gather more and more
Knowledge and insight into the characters. I can see this being adapted perfectly into a Feature Film as I visualised every dramatic scene and didn’t see the finale coming and had me utterly hooked from the first chapter.
Can’t wait for book number 2 from Nina!

Great story
Loved the way this was written, little slow getting into it in the beginning but some twists that keep you enthralled! Great story right up to the end. Definitely recommend.

Not her best
Unfortunately I struggled to finish this this and I gave up with 5 hours still to go, however I do love all her other stories

Not a bad suspense thriller…
But from the beginning of the middle of the book the ending was already very predictable. I also had a hard time sympathizing with the protagonist as I thought she was a weak character. But the story delivers scary and tense moments.

Tedious
I couldn’t stand Daisy, or her overly dramatic portrayal. The coincidence of their bizarre histories was not very believable. Kept waiting for it to improve. It didn’t.
