It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Fantastic!
As a big fan of the genre, I was a little apprehensive at the beginning, as the story is set 5 years after the collapse. However after a quick set up of the situation, I was hooked. It has a great story line, and perfect use of imagery throughout. And the narration by John David Farrell is second to none. It’s hard to press pause on this audiobook! I will definitely be reading more by Russell Blake!

Fantastic!
This was an excellent read! The characters had great depth. The narration was marvelous! I was able to see each character in my mind because of the ability of the narrator to give each a distinctive voice. Well done indeed. The hero: strong, smart, silent and deadly. The heroine: a ditz...
Let's just say, I reeeeally would have been bewitched to put my bacon on the line for such a vacuous, impetuous, scatterbrained person...

Wanted to like it -main female character killed it
I really wanted to like this series. Main female character is build with many flaws but after a while the character gets downright stupid and nonsensical, I finnaly couldn't put up wit it anymore, had to return the series. Will try more by same author, hopefully with better outcomes.

Great series.
Josey Wales meets Han Solo vs a heavily tattooed Vin Deisel. And throw in a woman who needs saving at every turn and the fate of the world in the balance and viola... Great story. Only one real complaint. Sometimes the characters bleed in to one another as they use the same phrases or descriptions showing us the man behind the curtain but thats few and far between. Excellent writing. Great action. Enjoyable from beginning to end.

glad I took a chance!
I had this on my Wish List for a while, but it was the 1st book in series, and something has always made me hesitant- I'm especially picky when the books arent long to listen to. I listen to books when I work, so if I'm spending the money, I want it to last more than a day, and it has to be GOOD.
so whenever I saw the box set of the 4 books in series, I grabbed it.
I am GLAD I did! it was very good. I normally listen to the EMP books, where they go out in forest, or travel cross country...your typical book in this genre.
but this was different, and it was nothing short of great.
I hope they're is more in this series and they come out in a set again! way to go!

Post-Apocalyptic Tale with a Western Flavor
I really liked how the tale unfolded just like the old westerns, with the lone gunman rescuing the damsel in distress. And it only got better from there with gun battles and good versus evil interactions throughout the four novels. The only thorn in my side while reading this was the continual betrayal of the primary female character as one who constantly fails to learn how to act in this post-apocalyptic world. I get why she might start out as impetuous and ignorant of how to behave when in dangerous situations. But after a while any normal person, male or female would have adopted different behaviors so as to ensure their continued survival and to prevent the need to continually be saved/protected by the big handsome male protagonist. The failure of the author to show growth in this female character throughout the 4 novels, shows a lack of understanding of women and their ability to cope in tough situations. Mr. Blake may want to study up on the role of women in the Resistance movements in WWII Europe or the Russian women of that same war and how they were even fiercer fighters than their male counterparts.

Not that good
Look, I don’t much care for the narrator. But the story just wasn’t that good. Predictable. Also the entire last book seemed like a rushed conclusion written as an afterthought. It was good enough to listen to, and I won’t ask for a refund. But barely.

Good story premise, but ultimately annoying
This bundle of books has an interesting story line, but its potential as a great read remains unrealized. The books are not well narrated, and the author has little respect for women. The men in the book are clearly cut into good or evil. The good guys are really really good, and the bad guys are awful. He refers to women as “females” so many times that you begin to wonder if he views us as genitals. With the exception of the sage “older” woman who must be safe because she’s too old to be a man-lure, the women in this book are portrayed as man hunting, deceitful, and oh-so needy idiots. I don’t think the author would be able to deal with a strong, smart, capable AND attractive women. She’d run circles around him, tie him up in word knots, & beat the macho piss out of him! Skip this one.

A good story but let down in some area's.
I couldn't finish the first book, the general story premise was good and it was well narrated, but some of the plot holes and stupidity of one of the characters just killed it for me. I had to stop reading and return the book.

Couldn't finish
Interesting idea for a story, but a bit predictable. Some characters were a bit thin and the narrator's voice was annoying. The character of Lucy's, every time the narrator spoke I expected him to say "I'm Batman"... you'll know what I mean when you hear it! 😆. I couldn't finish it sadly.

Really good series
Really well written, and does not fall into the trap that you sometimes see in this type of series, namely telling the same story over and over with different names.
Strays a bit close to Ayn Rand and Alex Jones in a couple of places, but it doesn’t last long.
