Publisher's Summary

A headstrong woman discovers it’s never too late for change in New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s spirited novel about lost hope and second chances.

Substitute counselor for wayward teens isn’t how public school teacher Jayden Bennett planned to spend her summer vacation. However reluctant, she’s hiking up her jeans and heading for remote Piney Wood Academy in north Texas. Two months. Seven days a week. Few amenities. And three troubled girls daring Jayden to make a difference. She understands what she’s up against. She has her own burdens to bear.

Jayden’s not in it alone. The devoted elderly couple who run Piney Wood trusts in Jayden’s tough-love approach to get the job done. So does drill instructor Elijah Thomas, whose hardened boot-camp hide conceals a heart broken one too many times. Jayden is making it beat again. For both of them, falling in love is a risk. Because all summers must come to an end.

But with each new sunrise on these rustic acres, Jayden discovers that Piney Wood is a last chance for her, too. And with so many lives in turnaround, a new beginning for everyone could be a dream come true.

disappointed

Early on there is a scene that bothered me: at the camp, they took the kids' birth control from them knowing they are sexually active. This a very out dated and dangerous move. Also, is that even legal? I'm so confused and turned off by this. Also, the uppity southern proper vibe is really draining. I can't get into this book. When one girl acted out by fighting, they said that was the worst behavior they have ever seen. not a fan of categorizing her like that. Lots of kids fight. it doesn't make her the worst. also, not a fan of the religious aspect. So far I'm just disappointed.

Carolyn Brown had done it again!

Carolyn Brown has a way of getting right to the heart of a matter and brings such clarity.

The troubled teens just looking for someone to care about them and a women that doesn’t know her worth. They all come together for an eight week stay on a working ranch.
Each person tells their story and who they confide in is the common thread.
When tragedy strikes they all come together and the dialogue is pure Carolyn Brown.

Best Carolyn Brown Book

This book is the best one of her books I have read. I loved the story and how everyone was affected by the stay at Pineywood.

Oooh This is GOOD!

This book is so good I read it twice. It isn’t just a HEA but it has a message for all. I wish I’d read it before I had kids. If I could I’d buy it by the thousands and pass it out to prospective parents, to those who think they’re in love and kids in relationship classes. Heck just teenagers. Well I guess kids these days don’t wait to be teens to need life classes. To other readers, enjoy this book and to Carolyn Brown...Thank you

Why did it have to end????❤️😍

It was a delightful story with the best narrator ever. She does the best voices and keeps them all straight. I loved all the characters and Elijah was dreamy. I felt like I was part of Piney Woods and having been a counselor in the judicial system for so long, I get it!

At first it started off where I thought I missed some very important detail, but I didn't.
This is a heartwarming novel about not only surviving but healing. I highly recommend this novel and towards the end, Have your kleenex ready.

LOVE LOVE LOVE This Book

I started the book and it was interesting. I have been an adolescent counselor, as well as walking through my own growing pains of family and friends. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and the Carolyn Brown writings. Great for all ages pre-teens all the way to adulthood through senior citizens. It's a loss if you don't read or listen to this novel.

Easy listening

Narrator was very good and character's were believable. I like quite a few of Carolyn Brown's books and was so pleased when I could get an audible version as I have been ill and unable to read or sit up and the book helped me while away the hours as it kept me interested throughout. Just have to find a other one .
