Publisher's Summary

Kate Spencer lost her mom to cancer when she was 27. In The Dead Moms Club, she walks listeners through her experience of stumbling through grief and loss and helps them to get through it, too. This isn't a weepy, sentimental story but rather a frank, up-front look at what it means to go through gruesome grief and come out on the other side.

An empathetic listen, The Dead Moms Club covers how losing her mother changed nearly everything in her life: Both men and women listeners who have lost parents or experienced grief of this magnitude will be comforted and consoled. Spencer even concludes each chapter with a cheeky but useful tip for listeners (like the "It's None of Your Business Card" to copy and hand out to nosy strangers asking about your passed loved one).

Wow!! What language!!

I recently lost my mom and this book came highly recommended so I desperately wanted to love it. As a Christian I cannot listen to this book. It is filled with f-bombs, G-d, ....the language in this book would make a sailor blush. I will find another book to help me grieve. I cannot listen to this. And it absolutely does nothing to enhance the book, so would an author intentionally fill a work of art with trash?!?!

Membership in The Dead Mom's Club

Two months plus two days ago I became a member of this club...also due to pancreatic cancer. A very supportive friend found this book for me. She said, "She's a comic. I think her style and perspective might work for you, esp as an initial foray. I hope so". She couldn't have been more right. I got the book in audio, I love it. It hit every emotion and thought I am experiencing. I thought this would help me get through the grief faster, but what I found most valuable is it has validated some of the, what I thought were, inappropriate or unusual thoughts and reactions I'd had. Thank you, and your mom, for this poignant yet comforting memoir, "yo go girl"!

Just what I needed

I get the title is The Dead Mom’s Club but it also totally applies to The Dead Dad’s Club too. I recently lost my father and this book was spot on. Very thoughtful, sweet and funny. 11 out of 10 would recommend!

Good title but sad language

I can’t finish listening to this book. The foul language on such a serious situation is a disgrace. Our best is supposed to come out in us when we are going through hard times. I can’t image honoring your mom while cursing our Lord.

Perspective and a member of the club

I lost my mom to cancer last week and this has helped me through these beginning days knowing there is this unspoken and unwanted club of people who get it.

Thank you Kate

This book put into words exactly how I have felt since May 2017, well actually before then when my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. My life has been turned up side down. Many of my feelings felt wrong or inappropriate. Now they feel normal and justified. I'm glad I'm not alone. I will be recommending this book to all members of the Dead Mom's Club that I know.

The best way welcome you to the Dead Moms’ Club

Let’s face it no one wants to be here, that is part of the dead moms club. This book however is the best book I have read ever since losing my mom at the age of 23 in 1997. It has been ages since I felt this comforted and this alive. My daughters are almost 21, and I wish to all under heaven that I had had this book 21 years ago when I was pregnant. I’ve searched and I’ve struggled for what I’ve done wrong as a mother, and what I could’ve done better for my girls as they grew up. This book has finally provided me the answers that I needed to know where I went wrong and why. I feel confident that having had this book while I was pregnant or before I would’ve done a better job with my girls, because I could’ve done a better job with myself. Please read this book if you are a daughter who has lost her mother at any age young or old this book is incredible.
