Publisher's Summary

Gothic, intoxicating, feminist, darkly provoking and deeply romantic - this is the breathtakingly imagined untold story of the brides of Dracula, by best-selling author Kiran Millwood Hargrave in her much-anticipated YA debut.

They say the thirst of blood is like a madness - they must sate it. Even with their own kin.

On the eve of her divining, the day she'll discover her fate, 17-year-old Lil and her twin sister, Kizzy, are captured and enslaved by the cruel Boyar Valcar, taken far away from their beloved traveller community.

Forced to work in the harsh and unwelcoming castle kitchens, Lil is comforted when she meets Mira, a fellow slave who she feels drawn to in a way she doesn't understand. But she also learns about the Dragon, a mysterious and terrifying figure of myth and legend who takes girls as gifts.

They may not have had their divining day, but the girls will still discover their fate....

A different take on the vampire women

Thos is a story of the wen who end up being Dracula's wives but overall I was not impressed by the vampire part of the story which was severely lacking.

The best part of the story lasted two chapters

This book is 90% backstory and 10% becoming a vampire. The last chapter or two are the only parts about actually becoming a vampire and then centuries of being deathless are summed up in the last paragraphs, That was the book I wanted to read.

Good story but a bit anticlimactic

I enjoyed the whole book and the story had grabbed me at first but the ending felt rushed and anticlimactic. It needed another 5 chapters at least for lore and wrap up.

I kinda need a hug after listening to this.

It was beautiful, well written, and all together heartbreaking. I might have been too gay and too hormonal to pick this up without a hug nearby.

What would you do for your twin?

I like the concept, but I'm likely a bit too old for this book.

Following two seventeen year old girls through abduction, slavery and sexual violence is difficult when you're their age but gaining the perspective of an adult and being painfully aware, that they are children makes it personally much worse.

That is a ME problem, of course. You may find it poignant, especially as it's combined with the race aspekt, and lightly touches on the difficulties of the main character's orientation.

Highly enjoyed

I listened to this in one sitting I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s not a side you see to the legendary tale that is Dracula and it was nice to see the “brides” portrayed as something more than love slaves.
Loved it.

The Deathless Girls

This book was beautiful. It was so heartwarming and yet so sad, the love for a sister that transcends a human soul. The story it’s self was elegant, written as if Lil wasn’t our main character even though it centred around her, which I loved. But my favourite part would have to be the whirlwind romance… The narration was amazing and full of emotions. I found the law of their would very intriguing and would love to find out more . On the whole the book made me feel everything all at once and I would recommend it.

Performance is fine but the book is so dull

Well read audio book but the story was not very interesting and lacked any depth or real interest. maybe partly because you know what has to happen and the story adds little interest to what is already known.

The Best!!! 😍

This book was AMAZING 🤩.
If you’re looking for an adventure, romance AND fiction then this is the book for you. The plot to this story and the bittersweet ending really make it a great book. The characters were really well portrayed and I constantly felt like I was in their shoos. (My favourite character was definitely Mira 😉)

Slow

Slow burning. The ending was pretty good but it was forever getting there. Its like the author had sudden improvement in their writing at the very end.

Completely different to how I expected

I don't really know what to think. It's completely different to how I expected from reading blurbs. The ending was strange and completely unexpected.

Just mmmmmm

Loved the narrator in this book. Sadly the story is not memorable nothing really stood out as something knew for me. It ended rather quickly and there was no shock moments. Little bit of a let down for me personally.

Indescribable...

Indescribable, though I will do my best. Dark and gripping fantasy, this book is heart wrenching and beautiful, full of spiritual culture, powerful imagery and vivid characters, I could not put it down. I will be recommending it to all of my friends.
