A well written and expertly narrated fantasy
Here we pit a motley crew of Hero, Heroin, Priestly Monk, a carnivorous centaur and a bunch of impish elves against an inhuman primal evil and his pitiless army of goblins, dwarfs and giants who are hell-bent to vanquish every human to the last living soul.
What follows is actually a fairly entertaining story.

Action packed, well written, expertly read
I absolutely loved the story and am ready to start on the second book. Tim Gerard Reynolds was the main reason I took the plunge but was rewarded with a wonderful story filled with very well developed characters (good and evil) and well paced parallel sub plots and storylines. Salvatore does a great job bringing these characters together as the separate storylines converge. One notable feature of this story that is not typical with many trilogies that I've read is that it does not spend an inordinate amount of time laying a foundation before getting into the story.
The main characters are noble if not flawed, sacrifice much as the story progresses, and in some cases perform the impossible. All in all, a great start to the DemonWars trilogy. If you enjoy Tim Gerard Reynolds, you will especially enjoy his performance in this book. Kudos to Salvatore for a well written epic fantasy.

Good story but anoying changing char traits
I love the over all story but what I don't like is something that is unfortunatly common to many writers. Writers tend to drive the story by making the main char's brilliant one moment and stupid the next to keep a story going. Ignoring learning events and everything the char has been through. Often something is learned then seemingly forgotten for just the right moment. I'm starting book three as I write this but I just turned it off. If i was reading it I likely would not have finished book 2. I like the over all story enough i may try to go back to book 3 again in a month or but not sure. Inconstancy in personalities that just don't fit the char are at best annoying and most of the time a deal breaker for me.

Really struggled with this
I recently listened to the newest Salvatore Corona books and really loved them. So I decided to try his earlier work. I’m glad (or sad?) to say he has thankfully improved much over the years.
This book was all over the place. It started out pretty nicely, with some interesting characters and premise, but somewhere around it’s first half it became down right boring. I really struggled to finish it. The characters stopped developing, the plot became monotonous, and all we really got was one battle description after another. I really wanted to like this, but I’m afraid I just didn’t.
Not even Tim Gerard Reynolds wonderful narration could save this. Too bad.

Give it a miss
Can't believe this is by the same guy who gave us Drizzt. Found this book dull and for at least the first half it seems to flail for direction and the numerous time skips leave it disjointed. Tried to stick it out but zoned out a bit for the last couple of chapters, which is a shame as by then it had started to pick up pace, but too little to late (I stuck it out because I'd already invested so much time listening to it but overall the story was too much of a drag to bother going back and listening to the two or so chapters I missed).
The only good thing is the narrator, who tries to give it some energy and does a few good voices, but even he is only average really. I wouldn't be adverse to hearing more books he read, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hunt them down. Same can't be said for this series - while I would (and plan to) get audiobooks of the Drizzt books, I have no intention of getting the sequels to this book.

Very Disappointing
What was most disappointing about R. A. Salvatore’s story?
The writing is very poor: thin characters who keep doing the same things that I find I don't really identify with; endless gory fighting scenes that aren't at all scary; implausible narrow escapes; a big demon who seems very easy to defeat.
There are much better derivative Lord of the Rings sort of books out there.

Just as great as the legend of Drizzt books!!
The characters are fantastic as is the world and the land of Honce the Bear. I waited a long time before reading this as I've been reading the Drizzt books since the 90s but this is fantastic and I can't wait to listen to book2
