Now that she knows what life is really like on the other side of the wall, she must decide which path to take. Story
In the future, mankind has learned to manipulate their DNA, harnessing only the good genes, like intelligence, strength, and height. They called this prime DNA and humans rushed to get these new pDNA injections, which gave them superhuman-like qualities. Centuries later, however, their DNA became so engineered that humans rarely lived past the age of 30, thanks to a new deadly disease called the Kiss. The only cure is to receive an injection of oDNA, DNA from an Original human that hasn't been genetically altered. Problem is there aren't many Originals left.

Then on Configuration Day, Avlyn's official transition to adulthood, she starts seeing strange visions. And instead of being placed with a low-level tech company where she could hide away, she's hired by Genesis Technologies, the government firm that monitors every citizen. Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Where do I start
I only made it halfway through. The writer knows nothing about the military. I don’t care that she never served but she failed to any research,. She had sergeants saluting sergeants. The enemy was CANADA!!! The main character chooses to carry two pistols,,,in her boots! At one point, the enemy is taking pot shots from the woods and the main character thinks, “guerrilla warfare.” UGH!!! The story was awful. The characters were unlikeable. I cannot believe anyone would give this book more than one star.

Just... bad.
This book was so difficult to listen to. The main character is insufferable. She is weak, cowardly, and has zero conviction. I wanted to like her but I could not. The narrator sounds so pathetic while voicing for her, which just adds to her pathetic character and makes it even more unbearable to relate to. There are tons of plot holes and much of the story is just not believable. Don’t waste your credits.

Not worth the free listen
The story can be summarized as a 17 year old girl with an insufferable crush, which is mentioned about every two minutes.
There were moments that had great potential to turn the book from mundane to thrilling, but it fizzled time and time again.
Gun and military lingo was rarely correct. The technology the military makes no sense. Government implants directly into their brain and vision, but pen and paper notes thwarts the military industry, give me a break.
Narration did a good job differentiating between female characters.

It's worth the listen.
Some of the story points didn't line up. Sometimes she would say something lasted for several day and then later in the book she stated it was only 72 hours and then she would say the same instance was 1 night. Good story despite the lack of continuity.

Jagged but compelling
Compelling distopian story with sometimes frustrating charecters ending with strong charecter growth. Though the writing struggled with it's rythm being jagged and difficult it was saved by an excelent narrater. All in all, I am eager to know what happens next.

Good easy listen
Not even finished this book yet but I know I will be getting the rest of the Lens series. The narrator is excellent at setting the mood and bringing to life the authors characters, I can see this is one series that I will be sad when it ends and will listen again many times in the future. It says it is aimed at teens and young adults but I am in my 50's and absolutely recommend it for older adults too.
