Publisher's Summary

Best-selling author Harley Humbug needs an escape.

From the current state of her own love life.

From her deadline she blew past weeks ago.

From Christmas, which is just around the corner, and the bad luck it usually brings with it.

When a snowstorm causes a road closure, she chalks it up to one more thing to go wrong.

Little does she know the detour will take her to a town she never knew existed and right into the path - and possible arms - of a man who might just be her real-life muse.

Didn’t feel the insta-love

On the plus side, this is a self contained story instead of a teaser for a full length book. And this takes place at Christmas time between two people with Christmas themed names... and I love holiday romance. But, any holiday themes end there and the novella proceeds in perfunctory fashion as Harley the romance author writes about passion, but passively sits at a barstool, or in her room, or at home, and just waits for him to make all the moves. There’s some odd angst on his part about not being able to get out of town and live the life he wants. And when the nooky happens, it’s over in a not-so-hot minute (and a little crude for this otherwise sweet listen with a cl!t-slit-c@ck description). And why bother with Jason Clarke’s narration for what felt like ten minutes or less of this book? Fine for a free listen, but for nice, naughty, and fun holiday romance, try the trio of novellas in The Reindeer Falls collection.

The Detour

I really enjoyed listen to this short and quick story. The narrator's did a great job of expressing the feelings of the characters. I recommend that you read this story.

Quick Love!

The Detour by K. Bromberg is a quick love story. The major part of the story happens probably in a matter a few hours. At one point, this story felt less of finding love and more of a one night stand and get away. Probably that is what Harley wanted as indicated in narration a couple a times. Could have been better if there was more depth to the story.

The names of main characters, Harley Humbug, and Saint Nick, as well as the name of the town Saint Nick's Hollow are somewhat ironically funny though. That was nice creativity by K. Bromberg. Finally, while Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke did a nice job of narration, somehow this audio book felt rather better off with a single narrator than two. Overall, this is a one time listen for me.

Fabulous!

A delightful holiday tale featuring a Christmas Grinch and a winter storm road closing that leads her to the last place she would choose in a small town that’s all things Christmas…on steroids. When she meets the town mayor Saint Nick will Harley Humbug find joy in a holiday blessing in disguise? I listened to the Audible Original audiobook and I loved the narration performances of the fabulous Erin Mallon and equally fabulous Jason Clarke.

enjoyable until the end

I really enjoyed this short story but the ending wasn't fantastic in my opinion. I'm kind of hoping there is a follow on book.
