"The secret of time-traveling into the future, would be found in the past...."

When George d’Clare receives the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, he and his wife. Madison. organize a support group. This noble endeavor eventually leads them to meeting a strange man with an incredible story - a captivating tale about a device that could transport a person into the future and return them safely to the present. His far-fetched account also comes with an equally fantastic offer: to help him in a daring plan to use the device to bring back the cure for the disease. Thinking the man suffers from dementia, George dismisses him as delusional.

But when the strange man is later killed in a deliberate hit-and-run, the couple embarks on a search for the truth about the device, beginning with the perfectly handwritten diary he left behind. They soon discover that they are involved in a deadly cat-and-mouse chase through time, whose origin dates back to the final days of World War II and to a highly classified Nazi operation, codenamed “Firebird".

Could there actually be a device capable of time travel? And if so, can George and Madison find it in time to stop the next phase of the inconceivable Firebird plan?

It was an interesting book. I like books on time travel and this one was easy to follow.

Excellent standalone sci-fi book

I was looking for a time travel tale that was not the first in a series or, worse yet, the first book of three trilogies. This was great! So creative and well-written. The story kept moving with characters one cares about. The ending — wow! Thanks to Dale C. George for The Device. Hunter Elliott did a great job with narration.

Interesting spin on a time travel story

I like it when you find a hidden gem of a book like this. This was a great listen and I thought the pairing of the narrator to story was perfect. A great rainy day listen. I found the storyline and characters engaging and the format of “then” and “now” easy enough to follow. Really enjoyable.

Something different.

While time travel is not knew, the story was a knew take on it. Keep in mind there is a lot of back and fourth on different years, but pay attention and it will not confuse you.

Amazing intellect for the storyline!

The authors past/present story line approach and his perceived knowledge on the technology or the topic matter is very good, a very good listen

An impelling listen that’s somehow calming

The mixing of time travel, an incurable disease, and the journey of the protagonists makes this an amazing ride. Well written with a great story to tell, what I enjoyed the most was Hunter’s performance.

His voice is very calming, even when the subject matter is hectic. I found myself soothed by his voice, and I look forward to hearing more from him.

Not “Back to the future”

Well, that was certainly a confusing story that was made interesting by good narration. While I applaud any writer who would tackle time travel in concept, Mr George seemed on track with the physics ( I guess as I’m a cab driver…what do I know) but kinda lost me on the ‘timeline’. Still, though, I’d recommend this book as a candidate for relaxed listening. Also, Dale, if you read this, please do another story so I can listen again.
