Story
Current medical wisdom advises that anyone suffering from diabetes or prediabetes should eat a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet. But in this revolutionary audiobook, Cyrus Khambatta, PhD, and Robby Barbaro, MPH, rely on a century of research to show that advice is misguided. While it may improve short-term blood glucose control, such a diet also increases the long-term risk for chronic diseases like cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease, and fatty liver disease. The revolutionary solution is to eat a low-fat plant-based whole-food diet.

Publisher's Summary
From acclaimed author Dr. Jason Fung, a revolutionary guide to reversing diabetes.
Dr. Jason Fung forever changed the way we think about obesity with his best-selling book, The Obesity Code. Now he has set out to do the same for type 2 diabetes.
Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease. The only way to treat type 2 diabetes effectively, he argues, is proper dieting and intermittent fasting - not medication.

Don't want diabetes? Listen to this book.
As someone who had virtually lost hope in finding a way back to metabolic health and was getting worse after trying a number of diets and regimens, Dr. Fung's "The Obesity Code" semi-metaphorically saved my life and I can't count the number of people I have recommended it to. That said, "The Diabetes Code" stands head and shoulders above "The Obesity Code." This book is remarkable in the amount and quality of information delivered and the simple, easy-to-understand language of Dr. Fung. He makes complex physiology very accessible and actionable. Having read many of his blog posts and listened to podcasts and lectures by Dr. Fung, I had very high hopes for this book and it far exceeded my expectations. Absolutely fantastic!

Doctor lost 21 pounds & off of insulin in 2 months!
I am a Family Physician of 40+ years experience. I am Medical Director of a geriatrics clinic. My medical paradigm has been shaken and changed by the coherent fact based presentation of this book and the Obesity Code. I am also a diabetic who after 2 months of intermittent fasting and low carb diet have lost 21 pounds and am off of insulin! I would encourage physicians and patients alike to take this information seriously even though it varies from current “expert opinion” It is on a solid scientific foundation. Good things will happen!

This book saved my life! Goodbye type 2 diabetes!
This book literally saved my life, and was worth every penny. I'm so thankful for Dr. Fung and his research. I followed Dr. Fungs guidelines and immediately seen results in correlation with Dr. Fung's findings. Blood glucose levels dropped to normal levels, and I lost serious weight. (20lbs in one week!)
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 years ago. When diagnosed, my doctor told me diabetes was a chronic progressive disease. I was devastated and hopeless. Being diagnosed with this disease at only 28 years old and over 450lbs, I felt like my life was over and ready to give up. As two years went by my blood glucose levels increased, I was prescribed more medication, and more medication on top of that. I tried to reduce my calories and lose weight as my doctor suggested, but I had no results.
Desperate for answers, I started to do my own research and discovered this book. After reading it I was eager to make a change because everything Dr. Fung said made sence to me. Finally!
I now have my life back. I no longer have to worry about dying because of diabetes. I'm in control.
I would like to thank Dr. Fung from the bottom of my heart. I have truly gained my life back because of his finding and research, and for that I am grateful.

This book could save your life
Dr. Jason Fung is changing the world one patient at a time. His first book, The Obesity Code, saved my life. Literally. I was a morbidly obese type 2 diabetic with no hope of reversing my fate when I stumbled upon the Obesity Code in July 2017. Nine months later, I am down 90lbs and no longer diabetic. Everything about my health improved since reading Fung's simple yet powerful advice.
This book is just as revolutionary, but focuses more on diabetes rather than obesity -- though Fung illustrates that both of these are just different manifestations if the same underlying disease. if you are living with T2 diabetes, you MUST read this book. You will be amazed at how quickly and effortlessly you can turn your life around. Even if you're NOT diagnosed T2D, your lifestyle may be putting you on a path to this deadly disease -- some estimate that up to 2/3 of the population are prediabetic or worse -- and this book will teach you how to halt that deadly progression.
They say that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. This is one of those rare and wonderful exceptions to that rule.

Excellent
When I was in medical school in 1970, I asked my physician mentor whether or not controlling blood glucose would decrease complications of diabetes. The answer then was that there was no proof that it would, but it was assumed that it would. Since 1970, there have been lots of studies refuting this hypothesis. Nevertheless, the medical standard of care for diabetes has continued to be controlling blood glucose with medication.
During my 45 years of medical practice, I observed that it was very difficult to change the medical standard of care. After all, the definition of malpractice is not following the medical standard of care.
This book, very well narrated, should be a shot over the bow of current diabetes management.

A Book That Could Change Everything Diabetic
Wow! This book really moved me as a Type 1 diabetic, now with multiple health issues, after almost two decades of dealing with the blow of a full-on diabetic lifestyle.
Despite trying to follow all the advice given to me by health professionals, trying to eat well, exercising regularly, etc. I have disappointingly begun to witness my body begin to develop the complications of this condition. Now I'm being pushed this drug & that, to my horror and am eagerly seeking alternative answers.
The scientific evidence in this book is strong, to the point that I believe everyone (diabetic or not) could benefit from listening to it.
My only criticism is that this book seems to be very heavily orientated towards Type 2. I feel more mention of how the subject matter is relevant to Type 1 diabetes too would vastly improve the book. Some Type 1 listeners may be inclined to switch off after a while, feeling its not for them, but I'd say stick with it. Despite being Type 1 myself, I learned a great deal and only wish my health professionals had advised me in this manner years ago.
Congratulations Dr. Fung for your clear narrative, impressive research & dedication in this field. You give a huge number of people a sense of hope in the battle against a condition that is often portrayed as a chronic & debilitating disease. I feel much more able to take the fight to my diabetes and I hope you continue to write & lecture on the subject.

Exceptional food for thought.
Primarily this is for diabetic patients, which I am not but there are so many messages in here that need to be taken on board by the the population at large.
Unfortnately a lot of people just do not want to heed this advice and we are sold more and more sugary products by the food giant. These big companies sponsor (with irresistibly large amounts of money) the medical research foundations to promote their products, with the findings being twisted to suit their needs. Take the breakfast cereal debarcle.
One thing that frightened me in the book was that it takes just a week of overdoing the glucose and fructose and you become insulin resisitant. Now I appreciate this is revesible but take the festive season gluttony fest and think 'how many people are at risk during this time.
I personally think the only way to get the message out there is You tube, blogs etc etc..... as all other ways have failed and we are living in a society that is moving towards if not already in a pre diabetic, obese state.
I personally hope that we will look upon sugar like alcohol and smoking in a few years tim, and then something will hopefully change, however it may be too late for many as this needs to be instilled into the minds of the young to let them grow into adults who have a health span as long as thier life span.
Rant over, enjoy the book.

Annoyingly repetitive despite some good advice
I have never written an Audible review before but this book has driven me to do it. Basically, it's an hour worth of book (at the max) stretched to 7 hours 24 minutes. Initially, I found the history, the science and statistics related to diabetes quite interesting but then as I progressed through the book, the repetitions got more and more annoying. I've lost count of the number of times he tells you that diabetes is reversible. There is some good advice in there but it is buried under a lot of waffle.
