Publisher's Summary

During the Lenten season of 1823, a German nun experienced a series of ecstatic visions that transported her to Jerusalem on the eve of the Last Supper. This is her compelling visionary account of the events surrounding Jesus' final days. A primary source for Mel Gibson's epic movie The Passion of the Christ.

Critic Reviews

"Franklin may have used history as a starting point, but he imagines the events in human terms, creating a book that transmutes historical fact into something much more powerful, dramatic and compelling." ( Publishers Weekly)

I am heart broken by the agony of my Lord.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ to be better than the print version?

The impact to me was about the same.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The description of the suffering of my Lord was vivid and moved me to contemplate on every part of His agony. I feel responsible for my Lord's passion, grief and agonizing crucifixionSuffering for Mother Mary is unbearable.

What about Roger Basick’s performance did you like?

He is moved and moving.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I went to certain parts over and over again.

Any additional comments?

Since I signed up, I have listen every day and will continue for the rest of Lent.

Beautiful and vivid

I don’t take this account of the Passion as historical fact. Nevertheless, it tells the story vividly and with much insight into the motivations of the characters involved as well as other details of the events. I take it as a beautifully told piece of literature/art (much like the movie The Passion). It helps one to meditate on Christ’s Passion and gives one much food for thought. Perfect for Lent. I will definitely listen to it again.

Classic Meditations on the Passion of the Lord

Much appreciate an audio version! A long and difficult read. It requires more than one listen to take it all in. The narration came across as somewhat disrespectful at times given the subject matter, but overall a great reading.
